SCAM SCAM SCAM! Never EVER give out your Social security # or ANY other personal information. It's a scam. If it was legitimate, they'd already have your info and would not need to ask for it (or verification of it). If you are ever unsure, ask the caller to send you a letter to your "address on file" and don't give or confirm your address (or name or anything).

RECEIVED CALL FROM 717-231-2720 DEPT. OF REVENUE ASKING FOR SS# which was given when I called back. Is this a scam or not?

This phone number is for the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, Bureau of Collections and Taxpayer Services. Harrisburg Call Center for delinquent taxes. For Corporation Taxes and Sales and Employer Taxes call back 717-783-8434 For Personal Income Tax and Inheritance Tax call 717-783-3000. The 717-231-2720 is from a predictive dialer for the Department of Revenue is for outgoing calls only. So if you are receiving a call from this number please call back as you have an issue to be resolved.
The hours for the call center are Monday Through Friday 08:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  They may place calls on a Saturday between 08:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, but the incoming lines are not open on a Saturday.

i received an automated message today telling me it was the dept of revenue calling about an urgent manner. gave me a number that i needed to call. I didn't have a pencil to write down the number. it was different than the caller id number. i don't owe any debt to the revenue service.

No they are not. But they would send letters to you first if this was real.

Got the same call claiming to be the PA Dept of Revenue. Claim I made over 47K in 2010 while living in Phila. Which is funny as I didn't live there then. And was unemployed then. And just got on SSD back then. (Called me in Nov of 2013 and just now. I didn't answer.

They claim the IRS said I owe PA over $1,000. And yet, no letter from any state or federal agency

Take heed, no Gov't Department will call you out of the blue. If you really owe back taxes, you will be sent official letters.

I got a call form 717-231-2720 the voice message said it had to do with inheritance If the departement of revenue wants me they will send me a letter. so I'll wait. this has to be a scam.

Yes I received a call from the same number. A Woman claiming to be a PA Dept of Revenue Agent. She asked for my social security number and address. She claims we have a small balance owed  on 2012 taxes. We have never received any correspondence from them until this strange phone call.  It definitely seems like a scam. I am worried and have reported it to the authorities. They are looking into it.  They have no record of this number being part of the Department of Revenue. Please be careful , Do not give any information over the phone.

A person called me from this number claiming to be a PA Department of revenue agent, telling me about a 29.00 dollar balance owed and asking me for my social security  .number.  She also verified our address. We had had no correspondance about this "balance owed".  Is this legitimate or a scam.

I got a call from 717-231-2720 two days in a row at 8:30 both times the first time I picked up no one answered and it sounded like a butt call while someone was driving. The second time I answered and the lady knew my name and mothers name and said something about unfiled taxes and said me and my dad have the same name. She wanted to know the last four #s of my ss and I gave her a fake one. She said it must be my dad and gave my a number to give to him to call back. Sounds like fishy to me.

(717) 231-2720 is the PA Dept of Revenue calling about unfiled taxes. They are not scammers.

I received a call in my cell phone from (717) 231-2720 PA, USA and didn't recognize it so I let it go to voicemail. They did not leave a message or call the office number. So I looked up the number online and found this bit on it. I called the number back and it did not ring it sounded like it was on the inside of an old 18 wheeler can and all you could hear was loud noise like a truck running at 70mph, or like being by a printing press in a newspaper printing press room! After 2 calls back to the number and the same thing happened I thought I would post it.

You also might want to call the number on your paperwork of the Employee P/R Taxes Qtrly Report...just in case it is a number they call out from.  Not to mention, they'd probably appreciate knowing if someone is calling and using their name!

Got a call at 6pm from someone claiming to be from the PA Dept. of Revenue.  At 6pm?  She said something about my 2nd quarter business employee payroll taxes weren't filed.  This is the second time I got a scam call like this.  First was August 4th from 717-231-2714.  I told her she was a scammer and asked what their game was and even told her that this was the second time they called and I'm not falling for their BS.  She said she was really from the dept of revenue and had been doing this for 5 years.  I said yea right and told her the dept of revenue sends letters not phone calls at night.  I told her I would report the call in the morning and then hung up on her.  Not sure what the scam is, but tried to call the number back and got a dead line.  DO NOT give any information at all to these people, they are scammers.
