This was a robo call for lowering my mortgage rate - the government has authorized reductions of up to 55% - blah, blah, blah.  Press 1 to hear more.

Of course, it's a scam.  And what does our Federal government - the Do Not Call list - do?  Not a damned thing.

"National Crisis" with a pre-record to my cell phone on the DNC list.  They have previously called my from http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-713-955-5535 and other numbers.  Typically, I have a hard time getting past 'Hello' with these guys as they hangup so fast, or even beyond a couple of questions.  Got this one to stay on a little longer, though.  However, I'm convinced that they must be a total scam.  Claimed that they referred people to a lot of different treatment centers for drug/alcohol, and asked a few questions.  Asked if they lived with me - on a previous call, I said "No" and they hung up.  Asked if they had insurance - on a previous call, I said I wasn't sure and they hung up.  They asked if it was state or private insurance, I figured I'd say yes since they may not want to get busted for scamming Medicare/Medicaide/etc.  Person claimed they were a non-profit, and wanted my insurance card info in order to refer me.  Questioned them a little for info about them, but he kept coming back to wanting my insurance card info.   After I asked if they had a web site I could review, he hung up the call.  I was only able to keep them on the phone for about 5 minutes, wish it could have been longer.

I do not believe that a reputable company handling drug/etc problems would have done this.  Pressuring for insurance information was probably a pre-cursor to identify theft, or medical insurance fraud.  Next time I may have to feed them some false information to try to get more info out of them (I'm sure they will call back).  If they call you, try to play along and keep them on the line as long as you can.  The longer they are talking to you, the more people you may save from being deceived by these people.

I know these calls are irritating, but I think they best way to stop them is to talk to them as long as you can keep them on the phone.  Don't block their calls, don't use a silent ring-tone.  Talk to them.  The more time you take talking to them, the less time they have available for making a sale (or scamming someone).  We can literally talk their industry to death.  Also, you might be able to get more information in order to file a more detailed complaint - and this information might lead to the FTC/FCC busting them sooner.

They called at 1:04PM, Said POLICE say homeowners should get a security system.  Would I like a free security system?  After I didn't reply, it asked if I wanted a security system.  It's FREE.  Again I didn't reply.  They disconnected.  Never identified themselves or their product.

Many smart phones now have a feature in which you can add a number to a list that will reject the call. I have a galaxy S3 and if I get a soliciting call, I simply click the number and select the option to reject. This has tremendously decreased bothersome phone calls. My husband has it on his iPhone 4 as well. Hope it helps :)

When you get these calls, add them to your contacts and either assign the shortest ring possible, or, if you can, choose 'no ring'.  That's what I've done and whenever they call, I don't hear a thing.  I have 54 junk callers in my phone that way.

I keep my ringer at the lowest sound at all times and every so often i check my caller ID, if there is an emergency i will see it when i see it, after all i am not a doctor, hospital, nurse, firefighter, police or any other emergency folk, i also keep my answering machine off, i have voice mail and i let them answer, dial *77, it's a call blocker service free of charge, surprisingly enough voice mail do not accept most of these annoying calls, i have cut them down to 2-3 a week doing this.  Try it, it might help you too.

Revenge--- accept their offer to set an appointment... over and over and over.  Waste THEIR time.  One company sends EVERY new rep into my store about every 6 weeks.   That's how long it takes each poor kid to learn he will not make any money running down bogus appointments.  Then they hire a new kid.  repeat and repeat.

They just called. Download Mr.Number App. You can block them. I currently block about 30 numbers. They call and app hangs up on them. Reports them as Spam. What we can do now with smart phones now.

Nope, the list only works on the law abiding.  Google DIGITONE.  They sell a device that's like a caller ID on steroids which allows you to block anybody you wish, among other things, and allows you to take your phone back from troublesome callers.  NOTE, I am not affiliated but just a customer who owns one of these for an extra layer of security on my phone.  It's a Godsend!  :-)

Called looking for a party who isn't here.  I told him so and he said something like "let me check my info" and I took that opportunity to drop the call.  Since he called the Google Voice number which I use as my main number and  I'll never be hearing from him again.   The number has a handy call blocker and I can block unwanted callers all day long with just the push of a key.  It's no problem at all!.  In fact, I enjoy it....   :-)

"Here is the National Do Not Call Registry
https://www.donotcall.gov/register/reg.aspx?panel=3

They cannot call you if you register you # here"

That's what YOU think.  That registry only works on the law abiding.  Scammers pay no attention.  Just like the lock on your house keeps out the honest folks but won't stop a burglar worth a darn.

I have a very simple response to to someone asking for the owner or manager. I just say "put me on your do not call list" and immediately hang up. NO customer asks for the owner or manager.

They called and they are blocked.

Recently, I got the Digitone call blocker (thru Amazon) for my business line.  The super neat thing with the Digitone is that you can block entire area codes.

This call was from the Denver, Boulder area so I blocked the 720 and the 303 area codes.  The Digitone will block at least 80 area codes, along with individual numbers and private and out of area calls.  So nice.

For my home line, I had an older Panasonic phone that could block 30 numbers.  NOW, I have the newer Panasonic phone that block 250 numbers.  I already have 50 numbers blocked.

It's shameful that we have to go through all this trouble and expense for our privacy.  But, I love blocking telemarketers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
