Legit companies don't threaten jail time...  They are scam artists... I called these guys like 10 times in a row just to curse them out... Finally one of them asked me if I would like to know how to make money with their scam if I would just stop calling...
Give them nothing and spread the word...
Attorney's don't call you then send paperwork by a process server ONLY...

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

I was called today by 760-651-2392 and they said there was somebody suing me and if I didn't give them 1000.00 I would be locked up,I tried to ask question but they would not give me a chance.Who ever these people are instead of going to jail them selves they need to be under the jail.It's  so sad that we got people that can't talk English and they scare you so bad that you don't know what to do next.I really hope that some type of law or the FBI can catch these people so they want be able to scare people again,because if they scare the right person it could go to far and give somebody a heart attack.Please what ever you do do not give them a chance to upset you like they did us all.Please someone get involved and stop this for us all that's been harassed by them.

They called back again today. This time I answered the phone and told them they do not represent the state attorneys office because I called the Florida State Attorneys office. So "Daniel Smith" says he represents the California State Attorneys office. I said I would call their California State Attorney and report him for threatening me earlier today and hung up. He called back immediately and I ignored it to voicemail.

Same variation of a call, except mine was offering a loan.  I asked ONE payday loan type place online for a longer term term & I've been unindated with calls, & emails since. LESSON LEARNED - NO PERSONAL INFO ON THE NET......They wanted to "secure" this type of load $3000 with 10% down on a green-dot card.   Why don't these scammers go back to their country of origin???

I got a call from an Indian guy saying his name was "John Anderson" and he was calling from the "State Attorney's Office" and there was a law suit filied against my name and social security number. How about telling what state you're referring to, we do have 50 of them. I quickly cut him off and said " Look, I know there isn't a lawsuit filed against me and try to that scam on sombody else. And why don't you be honest and use your real name, which you know damn well isn't John Anderson. Better yet, go f*ck yourself" Ans then I hung up on him.

I had a similar phone call from a different number yesterday. When I got angry and demanded information they told me to call down. When I wouldn't calm down they hung up on me. I called back and demanded they answer my questions they said they wouldn't help me while I was angry. I again demanded what this was about and he said I comitted fraud do to some loan from some cash advance loan place. They told me I lied sbout my bank account and I lied about paying it back. I applied for a signature loan not a payday loan and I haven't received conformation. I told them I never received funds and I had to proove I never received these funds. I kept trying to get me to tell me the exact cash place and he told me there were over a hundred places. These people have all my personal information and I want these Indain people to be caughr and punished to yhe fullest.  The guy I talked to yesterday said his name was Xavier Marshal.
