They called us last January 6 at 4:07 pm and again two days ago, June 26, at 10:17 am. At least they waited almost six months before calling again. As I stated last January, their number is now blocked by our call blocker.

You may be right on the money with this.  A large for profit chain of thrift shops has a deal with Big Brother Big Sister. The details are not known to me, typically this kind of thing nets the charity between 1-5%. No wonder they are hounding people.

They called us today at 4:07 pm. The caller ID was BIG BROTHER. They may be a legitimate organization, but frequent calls from them are annoying. This is why their number has been added to our call blocker.

Giving to Big Brothers Big Sisters does not trigger more phone calls.  They call donors once a month unless you choose to donate clothing, at which point they will make a second call as a reminder/confirmation  the day before the pick up.

Unfortunately, many of their competitors, most of whom are funded and/or operated by private, for-profit companies, have taken up the strategy of making multiple calls to donors to solicit donations.

Goodwill is certainly a good organization to which you may give.  The difference between them and BBBS is that BBBS picks up right at the home of the donor.  The product they receive using this model generates higher quality donations, which in turn means more money to the agency and more children that receive services.

We are working with several media outlets on a series of articles to inform the general public about the used goods industry.  It is an amazing business, wrought with questionable business practices.  In our opinion, BBBS is a true charity that is not operated by a for-profit business.  They are a free agent in the market, which is why they do so well.

More later.

Alway though this a worthwhile organization, but I absolutely refuse to donate to any charity that makes telemarketing calls.
Charity telemarketing is probably the brainchild of the same group of people who thought that it was a good idea to replace a thank you letter to donors with a solicitation for more money.
There are too many good organizations that are truly greatful and don't harras me over the phone to bother with this charity.

They call quite oftenly, as they're working outside the restriction of the DoNotCall agreement so there is no way to stop them. Additionally, I did answer their calls but got no reply at all for more than 70% of the occasions. It makes you wonder if this company actually is trustworthy or not...

I wish they don't call so oftenly, at least reduce it to once a week. A normal family really won't be able to donate items a few times per week right? They act like some sort of fishy telemarketers instead of a real charity.

This is ridiculous, they call every week and I tell them I am not interested. It is bordering on harassment now. Each and everytime I tell them not to call anymore and the next week they call again.
Just call them!

They are a legitimate organization! Call them and tell them you don't want them to call you anymore and your number will be removed from the call list. This one is pretty simple people.

Big Brother Big Sister Foundation is run by the local mentoring programs and isn't privately run. FYI If you check out their website you can see a list of their board of directors. They resell their donations at their thrift store and when there is a need they give items to families in need from the mentoring programs. Please do your research before you trash a good non profit! And NO they do not shred clothes into rags. I give to them regularly and still will. Thanks BBBS for all that you do!

If you compare the cost it takes to make phone calls to the amount of donations and funds raised you'd be chiming a different tune! Have to spend a little money to make money right?

They let you know when you'll be in the area (I've never had a call, just the little mail fliers), but they don't pick it up unless you tell them you're leaving something. They'll plan on going to a particular town/area, but only stop at addresses that have told them they're leaving a donation. You can schedule the pickup by calling or going to their website.

They're a good charity. I just find it unfortunate that they don't leave messages when calling.

Many calls from Big Brother, and caller ID listings when I am not home. Take me off your list. Don't call anymore!

If I have something to donate I'll give it to Salvation Army. They are not annoying me with constant calling.

Weekly bothersome calls reportedly from the BBBS organization.  Caller ID name displays BIG BROTHER.  Have seen their very large collection truck only once a couple months ago in my southern NH town.  The truck looks quite new and extra large.

It is much wiser to donate your good used clothing to your own local charity and wellness groups that you know or the Salvation Army so that they may distribute them locally to families that really need them.  It is likely the BB collector is private and just gives a cut to the BBBS group.  The clothes are then sold overseas or shredded for rags!  Not quite as beneficial as assuring the clothes are reutilized by deserving folks.

This is a good organization.  I regularly put out my good, not wanted, clothing.  They pick up at the street, and they do it when they say they will.

The biggest problem is after so many nuisance calls every day I hesitate to answer the phone when I don't recognize the number.  The scammers are ruining legitimate charity calls.

Calling for donations.
They are not calling "to confirm pick-up times" and I don't care how much good they do.
There are charities that do a lot of good without harassing potential donors.

I suspect that a good portion of the donations that go to charities that conduct phone campaigns goes into the pockets of for-profit companies. Of course, they need to make substantial "campaign contributions" to politicians to keep the charity exemption to the do not call list.

They don't go in your house. They pick it up in front of your house, just like the garbage man does. Lots of charities do this, but all of the other ones I've heard of send you junk mail or just list it on the Web. Of course, this is stuff you'd otherwise throw away.

If you have a local charity that takes more than just food, donate it to them, otherwise find a non-nuisance charity on the Web. It's important that we not waste stuff.

BTW, I've only been one call from this outfit each year.
