Debt Collector
My phone has been blowing up with calls from this 800-261-2816 number. I ignored the calls for a while, only to later get a call at my station at work! The collector was very rude, I believe he called himself Chris or John I don't really care, and for some reason he thought I could pay off my entire $40,000+ balance on a minimal nursing salary. I purchased a house when I wasn't supposed to and now, I'm paying the price, barely scraping by to keep the house from going into foreclosure. Anyways, I told the collector this and guess what his response was? He simply told me, "I'm going to document a refusal to pay a federal debt on your behalf, I wish the best of luck to you." What does that mean? Does anyone have any advice or help for me?

Keep calling for the wrong person. They won't update their stuff and have been calling for someone else account. I've had the same number for a few years now. I live in San Diego Cali. the person they are looking for apparently lives in WA state.

This is NCO, They are a debt collection agency who uses collection practices that are against the law.  They leave threatening messages on voice mails along with personal information. This is against the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Report them to your State Attorney General.

I think, I spoke to this guy...Calls and I had to tell him to slow down because I couldn't understand what he was saying.  I told him didn't have a job and was on State assistance and he said so do you mean you have no intenstion of paying then got rude with me and started to treaten me, do these people think they can get away with this when there are laws here.  Not going to loss sleep over it but this company needs to be stopped and I for one will not put up with this type of harresment.
If anyone does file a complant make sure you write down the time and dates of the calls so when you do the company will have to pull the call from there records and proved that they didn't make any threats .

Got a call from this "company". It was a girl that was telling me that if i made a 100.00 payment on my school loans, that the rest (35,000.00) would be waived. She stuttered a lot and was VERY persistent. I told her that i was on unemployment and could not afford anything at this time. She kept at it. I told her that i get calls about this loan from at least 6 different companies about this loan and they all say something different about either how much i owe, or what kind of payments i can make and so i wasn't going to start any payments 1) because i couldn't afford it. 2) because i never know who i am talking to. She STILL persisted. I told her that not only was she calling my cell phone, but that i was driving on the highway and was getting distracted and for her to call back at a later time. SHE STILL KEPT GOING. Finally i had to just hang up. 100.00 to pay off a 35,000.oo loan? How stupid do they think i am?

800-261-2816 This number seems to match the comments above and my 90 year old Aunt is a tad tired of calls such as these and rightfully so.  Nevertheless, what this also does is, for those of us who have a legit business and use an 800 number or 866 or 877 and are truly reputable in providing professional services for the consumer are frown upon because of jerks who fraudently rip off people and use illegal tactics to get money from someone' bank account either with no authorization by asking you to postdate a check, access to your credit card info and before you know it, you are being scam, manipulated, forced or coherse into doing something you really don't want to. Don't ever post date a check if they asked you to do so. Don't give them the time of day. They are not supposed to call you at your home or place of work. If it is a debt that you own, have them mail you proof of such. Whether you own it or you don't, have them mail you proof of such matter. You have rights but they will treat you as you don't and that your worthless. Don't listen to them and block their number with the FCC. Their actions are criminal and they don't get it from you, they will be lurking around for the next victim and just move onto another 800 number.

IN ALL REALITY:  If you had the money to pay your bills in a timely manner, you would do so. However, because of circumstances out of your control like unemployment, on social services, workers compensation, social security or have been blacklisted out of the work force for a number of years, it not reason enough for a company to harass you.  Nor does it give reason for someone to label you as a deadbeat. Do you think those who have gone through a Tornado or Flood and have lost every worldly possession should be labeled a deadbeat? Or should a collections company go after them for monies owed when they are in circumstances out of their control and who's knows when they will be back on their feet? It can take 5 years or more to get back on their feet???  Think about it!! and for YOU who calls from 800-261-2816, it won't be long before the law enforcement catches up with your azz. So stop your illegal tactics and look to conduct a reputable business that's not hurting people on a national level.

Oh my. Now that I'm reading around maybe I heard NCO Financial Services, not ACL. I'm really not sure. I will listen more carefully next time and try to confirm what I heard. I am sure they will be calling again soon. :p I just want to clarify so that my information is not confused. Sorry for the double post.

Debt Collector
I've been getting calls from this number every day, once a day, twice yesterday, for the past three days. Each time it asks me to call the number 800-688-4490 and ask for "Joe Howell" (not sure of the spelling). They said that it was an attempt to collect a debt. It claimed to be ACL Financial Systems. I have not returned the call. I do not have any debt and my husband has impeccable credit. We own no property and both of our cars are paid off. How outrageous! I'm hoping to nip this in the bud ASAP, as I do not foresee this as being any kind of a legitimate organization.

Debt Collector
I have had my cell phone number since May 2008.  I keep getting phone calls from this phone and number and others, asking to speak to a person regarding a personal matter. I was able to find out, can't remember how, that it is a student loan.  I told them that I am not the person and they should stop calling me.  They of course, in the beginning, don't believe me and I tell them that I am in Milwaukee, WI, and I have had this phone number for 2 years, that makes them stop and think, then they say, "really" okay, I will make sure that this number is deleated from our records. Well that lasts for about 1 month and then the calls start coming again. Okay, I just remembered how I found out it is a student loan... Sally May was the original collector that started calling, that was about 6 months ago. Why don't these people get it through their heads that they have the wrong area code. One of the collectors once told me that it was supposed to be area code "413" not "414", one typo can really screw things up!!!

NCO student loan collection.
Apparently these "classy" well-trained, guard dogs, will bark up the wrong tree.
My uncle has a student loan from 20 years ago.  Im the lucky chap that has the same name as my dead beat uncle.  So "John davis" the collector thinks i'm lieing... He thinks im just denying that Im my uncle.  WE HAVE THE SAME FREAKEN NAME!!! Anyways... These guys will call and call until a person might need therapy.  I CANT SLEEP WITH OUT THEM CALLING.  So i decided to help my uncle take care of this matter for good.  Of course my recommendation and any professional will tell you "Its always best to make payments!" but its always best to know your options before negotiating with these "Classy" Collectors.  Heres a website I found that some "Student Loan collector" Made... He spills the beans....

Hes a collector so i still hate him, but personally I think this is the first time some one actually came out the laid out the rules on the table.  Its a mystery as to why this type of thing isn't more accessible.
