Well spoken!  I have been a member of Navy Federal since the 1980s.  I wouldn't go to any other place for banking.  It is a great organization and only call if you are delinquent on payments.

I had gotten a few phone calls from this number. (as well as it showing a 703 number which is listed as Fairfax, VA)  I read so many mixed answers here.  Some stating that it IS NFCU.  Some stating it's a scam.  So I called the number we have for NFCU (888-842-6328) and asked the very nice young lady there.  She looked it up in their system and YES, THIS IS A NFCU NUMBER.  She told me that it is their "Disaster Recovery" department which can offer financial counseling if you are having trouble.    After looking at the homepage later, I entered the number into their search bar and it DOES come up as the Disaster Recovery department.  Not only for helping if you are having financial difficulties which might reflect in your NFCU accounts, but also so they can offer help if your difficulties have to do with weather or other disasters (like an earthquake).

We were having a little trouble.  One of our accounts had been overdrawn.  It was taking me a little while to get it back in the black, but that was accomplished by last night. I felt much better about who I was calling after talking to the girl at NFCU, so made the call to the 800-336-3767 number.  They were indeed calling about the overdrawn account and if I hadn't already gotten it back in good standing I imagine they would have had plans for how to get it back in good standing.  Makes sense if this is also the contact number for if a credit card or mortgage or other loan payment is past due.

I can understand the frustration of people who don't have NFCU accounts.  I don't know why they are being contacted, if it's not for phone numbers incorrectly given (or old numbers given) by NFCU members.  But this IS a legit number.

If anyone doubts this, please go to the Navy Federal website yourselves.  www.navyfederal.org.  Look up at the top right, where the search bar is.  Enter the phone number.  You will have a number of hits come up.  Some pdf files about disaster recovery, and a couple about financial difficulties.

YES, this IS a NFCU number.  If you don't have accounts there, let them know so they can delete your number.  If you do have accounts there, give them a call so you can find out what is going on.  You certainly don't want something really negative happening, like a bad hit on your credit report or an account being closed or some privilege being lost (like dumb me - didn't get the account brought up to date in 30 days so the overdraft option is now closed on it).

It is indeed the collections department of Navy Federal Credit Union calling you.  Which at times can be a good thing if an account is past due, as much better than losing the account or going to a collection agency.  Sometimes if you are less than 30 days past due you can sometimes get "special deals" for lack of a better word to bring account current.

This is NOT the Navy Federal Union. My Ex has been working there for over 20 years and she has informed me that there has been a scam for a while now with this issue. She cannot tell me more but please so to the real site, call that number and have them verify how they know you. Check your local listings, there may be one located near you and you can visit them and really get the truth. But DO NOT  give them any personel information as if they were who they say they are, they would have the info that is needed.

NFCU BEWARE they are crooks......   do not use do not join or even picnic with them.....  all of their board members are high ranked retired officers or enlisted who promote the bank to all of their subordinates.  By the way, they are also the only bank on the Navy bootcamp base and THEY do not work for the Navy as they are a private credit unon.

I got an email saying to call the mentioned number that everybody else is talking about. I am pass due on my credit card, which I've called NFCU every two weeks to remind them that I've had a financial hardship after being involuntary separated from the Navy this past OCT.  The navy was supposed to pay me $50 for being separated under their PTS program.  Because of some lazy a** 2nd Class at TPU SD, I have not received it after 45 days of submitting my paperwork. It's only supposed to take 15 days.  The lazy person did not submit my paperwork on time nor did he tell me I had to submit my DD-214.... anyways.. I've called NFCU & asked them if they could waive the interest fees.  They said they could for 6 months at that time I could ask for an ext up to 6 more months. I was supposed to keep the minimal payment up to date, but because I am almost out of funds.. I could not pay the $350/month.. It was supposed to be $160, bur somehow they increased it without me knowing... I've filed a complaint with them to lower the minimum payment.  ... now, about this number.  I've had scammer calling me from just about every bank there is & asking for my address & social.  most are small time banks, most I've never heard of. I do not know how NFCU got my cell phone number or email address, because I've never give out my cell number, except to friends. any banks I deal with or utilities, ect.. I use my house phone, which I call to check messages when I am out of town.  My email address that I use is less than 3 months old. I have never given it to anybody.  I've only used my email address to sign up for USAJOBS & another government website for job searches... my email does sound like a common name..... I searched the number & came up with all these comments on this page & others.  ... be careful if you call back.. always research the number on the legit website. don't believe others comments when they tell you to check a website. .... now, reason I am writing this comment, is because the people at NFCU (if they actually work there) are extremely rude. I understand if you talk to hundreds of people a day.. it's your job to talk to them, you get paid. You do not have to be rude!  You should have respect & professional courtesy & business ETHICS... also, when you work for a company & are leaving comments, you should use your title & name, not put something like "NFCU Employ" or "Doing my job" ... that makes it look like you are hiding from us customers.  You should keep your comments to yourself... or put your name & title, + phone number to contact you to resolve the problem... or recommend a solution in a professional manner...  I have 12+ years of Active Duty Service.  I've had 5 banks over this time. Three I've kept... Armed Forces, which I am about to close.. NFCU, which I have a credit card with.. don't keep that much money in my checking/savings with the... BOA, which they have a better APR on my credit card than NFCU, & two local banks in Santa Barbara, which I use for most of my daily transactions..  *** There is no reason for NFCU to get a name wrong when calling the list of names on their debt list.  Why would somebody call my cell phone asking for Joe Smuck... when That is not my name... The NFCU employee should have all my contact info & bank history in front of them when calling me... STOP HARASSMENT!!

I just got a message saying to call back 1-800-336-3767 "urgently", I called the navy federal number back listed on the website 1-888-842-6328 and verfied with them that is NOT their number. She said if you ever question a voicemail left for them, check first before calling back, or just call the listed number on the website, they'll pull up your account and re-route you to who or what dept left the message. Again it is NOT   navy federal.

Got a letter from NFCU with a call back number of 1-800-336-3767 x44-338.  Just finished watching the documentary www.zeitgeistmovement.com.  This is very enlightening stuff!  This information exposes the banks, IRS and our monetary system (including credit unions).  Now, I totally understand that the credit union and banks did not lend me "money" in the first place!  They issued me "credit" and then I had to go to work to pay the "debt".  Educate yourselves people by watching the DVD zeitgeist and freedom to facism.  You can also "do your part" by educating others at www.realityzone.com and www.freedom-force.org.

Been with them for 20 yrs. Until i retired and they were not local so I went to a local bank for everyday banking, and with NFCU for loans and mortgages.  If you are 15 days late on a payment, they will shut down e payments and such..  so when you try to transfer payments to them 3rd party you wont be able to, then when you mail them in, they wont cash them, till after they access a late fee on the account>>> So for me, Im done paying them anything>>>>>

Actually, Mike Keller is literally the BEST person you could get in contact with via Navy Federal. He will bend over backwards to set up  legit payment plans and so forth in order to get you cleared. I've actually been on the bad end of not being able to pay off my loan, had a huge chunk of interest backed up, and he put up with my b***s*** for almost 3 years, and still had hope for me and even at a time when I hadn't payed anything on the loan, went out of his way to send a copy of my lien holder title so I could actually get my car legal.

HE, isn't a bad guy, and for YOU to assume that he's some a***ole trying to steal your money back is rude and you all should be ashamed of yourselves. Probably the best customer service I've ever had from a collections specialist and you should be so lucky to have him on your good side because he'll set things in motion to get your finances right with them.

I have received calls from NFCU when my loans have been paid off - however, to the employee that stated how would you feel if it was $400,000 of your money - well guess what it is!!!  NFCU provides loans that is funded by the members themselves - it is money generated from our savings and any fees and interest that have been paid out - so technically it is our money. I feel like everyone else, if you borrowed the money you should pay it back as agreed but there is never a time when any collector should belittle anyone! You never know when it will be you going through a rough patch. Fortunately for me I am no longer a member at NFCU I felt the numerous errors on my account and the extremely rude customer service was not worth the hassle so I switched to a different credit union. Since the switch I have received nothing but exceptional service - this is one of the reasons why you shouldn't complain just switch banking institutions - after they no longer have any members maybe they will realize that keeping a customer means being courteous and treating them like their jobs depend upon them (which they do)!

Anybody with a PO box is requesting money from me gets attention.  I suspect that the business is a scam.  If they are legit, they should not mind providing their names, supervisors names, physical address, PO box, business license number, BBB affiliate number, local phone number, CEO name and state registered license to do business.  These companies should also be willing to provide "PROOF" that this is your debt.  If ANY of this is not provided, TELL THESE A***OLES TO KISS OFF!
