Are you an agent saying to a person that is complaining about your company... "you're not only stupid but a lier" ????
Then I can have an almost perfect picture of the Company that you are representing.
Have a great day, Agent.

WE CALLED THE number back with a blocked number and the name of the company is PRE LAW COMPANY.????? out of who knows where??? THIS IS A SCAM so dont answer them back
AGENT 2011-06-06 20:57:39 Unknown
Just to respond to a few comments:
Minerva: you're not only stupid but a lier. We don't even have such a file number in our company. No agent will ask for your social security number, for your own security or the person we are looking for, we only ask for the last four digits (and we can't do anything but confirm the information that we already have), so better luck next time that you want to lie.
Scams: you should have been a comedian (not that you are good at it, but you'd probably be better at it than guessing). This isn't a scam, it's serious and before it becomes more serious we'd like to offer a way out.

My mother-in-law received a phone call today from UCB, 1-800-354-3217, extension 6723. They asked what my phone number was saying they tried to get in touch with me and couldn't. They asked her to call me at the above number and extension with a case number of 502-93554.
Carrie 2011-06-06 20:57:39 Unknown
Caller leaves a msg stating they have tried numerous times to reach me. (They have called twice.) I am currently in repayment status with UCB but now they want to get my account straight? What?

A person named Elaine at extension 6861 has
Called several times and left message and bogus reference number.
They have since called my mom.
They have called my ex-wife.
They have called my neighbor.
Is this real? I didn't recognise the number so I reserched it 1st and found several hits on Google claiming this to be a scam number.

Received a call from UCB. They are very rude and threaten action on the file they have on their desk. I am in debt settlement process. Is this a scam or legitimate collections agency. Normally when a collections agency first contacts you they do not threaten "action."
Shamu 2011-06-06 20:57:39 Unknown
UCB breaks the law everytime they tell anone other than the person who owe's the debt detail. Write down everytime they call and what they say. If they state they will sue call the orginal company and see if they can. If not hire an attorney.Contact Jeffery Hyslip at 866-339-1156 he will sue them and win!!

Don't take it so personally, its just there job. If we didn't fall behind on our bills they would be out of business. I did this in college. I hated being mean so I worked with people, got bills revised and helped them get on a payment plan. Just offer them something. They will always want more but insist what is comfortable for you. Work with them, its really in your best interest. But make sure the debt is yours and ALL yours, mistakes can be made.
Gloria 2010-04-22 01:14:05 Unknown
Yes, it is legal as long as they don't give any personal details. They can say the company name, nature of the business and leave a cb number. Its call skip tracing. They are trying to find you or at least annoy you enough to get you to call them back.

Got a call on my home phone, it was hard to understand but gave address across the street and a man's name. I've never been introduced to the people who live there, we wave if we see each other but that's it. Called the 800 number back and got a woman who wanted to know if I knew this neighbor. I told her I wanted to know how they got my number and why they were calling someone not related to this person for information. She told me I could request that they not call me again, then hung up on me. The Attorney General's office in my state will be hearing about them first thing tomorrow morning.

I have been receiving phone calls from this number at home and at work, from a Marie at x6748. She has left messages in regards to a reference number at home and at work. The message at work that she left, she said something like, "...govern myself more responsible and call back" and if i didn't, she said, "good luck".

Found a voice mail message from this company on my home phone looking for someone having the same last name as me as well as a first name of my nephew who is in college. The caller, a Mrs. Roach(?) requested an urgent call back and gave a 888-861-7707, ext 86995 to call back. As a former telecom fraud investigator for a large telco and now the owner of a Private Investigation company, I deceided to call and try to leave a message. No can do. If it was that urgent, why is there no one there? Perhaps the FCC should investigate????

I received a call on my personal, unregistered cell phone... Caller ID said "954"... The woman on the line told me that it was regarding my neighbor, that his phone line was down and they haven't been able to contact him regarding a serious matter... When I asked "How'd you get my number?" they told me that he had listed me as a reference... I don't even know the guy, I don't think he knows my name, let alone my personal cell phone number. But they asked me to give him information to contact them including the number 18003543217

Generally, the TCPA does not apply to debt collectors making collection calls to debtors. However, if you are subjected to calls from a debt collector and you are not the debtor, you may file a lawsuit against the debt collector under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and the TCPA.
This right was recently recognized by Judge Legrome D. Davis in a case called Watson v. NCO Group, Inc. NCO Group is a debt collector that uses automated prerecorded collection calls. In this case, Mr. Watson alleged he was getting hundreds of calls from NCO Group after he got a new phone number. Mr. Watson claimed he owed no debt to NCO Group, Inc. Mr. Watson filed suit under both the FDCPA and TCPA.
David Israel, defense lawyer for NCO, argued that the TCPA should not apply to debt collectors. Judge Davis rejected the argument made by David Israel. The judge ruled that Mr. Watson had a right to sue NCO Group Inc under the TCPA for $500 for each call. Judge Davis wrote;
[The] Court is convinced that a non-debtor's rights are in fact violated when he is subjected to repeated annoying and abusive debt collection calls that he remains powerless to stop.
Judge Davis' ruling was based upon his interpretation that collection calls to non-debtors violate the privacy rights provided by the TCPA.
So what can you do if you receive "wrong number" calls from debt collectors?
1. Sign up for the Do-Not-Call registry.
2. Save the calls captured by your voice mail or answering machine.
3. Contact a consumer lawyer.

So, this a**hole called and left the same message for me. He's trying to sound like an attorney...it's a b.s. routine this collector has to get people to call him back. I sent the voicemail to an attorney handling my debts and it's likely this Shawn Smith guy is violating fair debt collection laws. I don't have a problem with A/R companies doing their jobs...but they need to play by the rules. Mr. "Shawn Smith" will be hearing from a real attorney very soon if he indeed has broken the law.

Tues., 11:31am caller claimed he was Shawn Smith calling from number 1-800-354-3217 x 86740. Starts conversation off by Mr. & Mrs. (our last name), then states he is trying to reach a relative of ours, in reference to a breach of contract, gave the name of the relative and the last four digits of his social security number and stated that it was a serious matter.
