This is a legit number from Chase. I made a few large transactions online and got a call from this number about 30 minutes later. The only thing that I have to provide to verify identity is the zip code. It then stated the amount of the transfer (which matches what I did online) and the bank the money was going to and asked me to verify if it was correct.

Not a scam, but hang up and just call Chase back. Chase Banking was trying to confirm a large check I had written. I hung up when they called me. I called Chase back using numbers I found on Chase.com. As others have stated though, I called the credit card guys and they said there were no alerts, but then when I called the banking guys, they said there was an alert.

Fraudulent
This may be a Chase number, but SCAMMERS are using it via phone number SPOOFING. I received the same message, but there are NO recent or pending 'large transfers' in the account that Chase would need to verify. If you need to verify anything, CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD, NOT THIS NUMBER!!!

They also confirmed that this is a fraud text message and fraud call.

i received a call from this number soon after scheduling my first online transfer (which leads me to believe it may be legitimate) but i never called back yet my transfer went through fine.  this makes me suspect the number as not being legitimate because i see little sense in making the call if a response is not necessary.

It turns out this is actually a Chase Fraud Prevention number.  I called Chase from the back of my card, and the girl I spoke with didn't have any knowledge of this number, but after reading through several of these comments, I decided to call and find out for myself.  They simply wanted to verify that I made a Quickpay transfer - I was not asked for any account numbers or pin numbers.

I called Chase directly, and the customer service rep quickly identified that the number was legit and was the Chase Fraud Protection division. She tried to transfer me, but I was put on hold had had to hang up. Later, I called the 800-366-1962 number directly and gave them the reference number. The recorded voice asked me answer two simple multiple choice questions to verify my identity (no account numbers or pin numbers or social security number or anything that specific). Once my identity was verified, the recorded voice ask me to verify an online transfer I was doing to an external account for a large amount of cash. The recording knew the name of the recipient account and the amount of the transfer. I verified the transfer and the call ended.

Hope this info helps.

NOT a scam.  Called back, gave the robot my phone number and zip code, robot asked if I made an external transfer (I had), I confirmed and money was delivered.  Nothing was asked but my phone number (which they had) and my zip code.  They knew my transfer info.  It is Chase.

You can as I have just done, and google this number. Sites like whocallsme and 800notes have about 95% of peoples' comments are saying, FRAUD.
Regardless, I called back the people to see what they wanted, and indeed, these people in the Phillipines may not even be aware they are part of a fraud. But the guy could not tell me his rep #.
Next, I called Chase at a number they have on their web site, and asked if there is any fraud flagged in my account today --no, there is NONE.
So, I'm blocking this number. They called 4 times this morning and I don't need the concern or worry or interruptions.
Never give out any personal information to someone who leaves a number for you to call-- they ALREADY have all of your information.

IF THERE ARE ANY DOUTBTS THIS IS FRAUD, CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD AND ASK TO BE TRANSFERED TO FRAUD. ITS THE ONLY WAY YOU KNOW IT IS LEGITIMATE.

I have several accounts with chase, 3 of them corporate accts.

They called me very early. and while this number may be a legitimate number for chase, there is technology that exists that they can 'spoof' the phone number and make it look like you are calling from the number. When I called some woman with a very thick russian accent answered. They told me that they needed to transfer me to an automated ssytem TO VERIFY who I was. and the system asked for me name, pin and card number. If they called me, they shouldn't need this information right?

seems like chase either needs to tighten its security so scam artists cannot obtain their customers' names and phone numbers OR if it is legitimate, needs to take a different approach as everything about these calls screams scam.  i too called the number on chase's website and was told there was nothing indicating a fraud investigation on my account and that they had no knowledge of this 800 number.

either way, my confidence in chase has plummeted.

I got 2 calls, first to my cell then to my home number.  Did not answer either then looked up this thread.  Lily is correct.  Even though the robot lady sounds scary and unprofessional, it is Chase.  I scheduled a transfer of money from my Chase account to an external account.  They had called to verify I did that.  I called the number and the "robot" simply asked if I initiated the transfer.  I pressed 1 and they said that's all they needed.  Didn't ask for any info except for my zip code to verify my identity since I called back from my home phone.  As soon they told me the exact transaction they were referencing, I knew it was legit.  They simply need a better robot lady.

DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER!!
I called just called and gave them the 8 digits to my debit card... Then was on hold with crappy music for over 5mins.
Something didn't feel right, so I hung up, and dialed the bank number on the back of my card to see if they had a fraud alert on my card.
They did not.
Not sure how these jerks got my number, but you're not gonna scam me, losers!

It's a legit number, however don't take my word for it, call the number on the back of your card. I will not call back a number I don't recognize nor will I give out personal info from an unsolicited call. You shouldn't either.

I was convinced from this page that I was being spear-phished, especially after calling the credit card dept and being told there wasn't a problem or any record of them trying to contact me. HOWEVER, just to be thorough I called to confirm it wasn't an issue with my checking account and they did have record of trying to contact me. No idea if both depts are using this as an outbound number but for those of you who don't know, there's very little integration between the credit and banking units so don't be surprised that one side cannot tell you about the other.

Bottom line: call Chase customer service yourself, but don't ignore a call from this number because you think its a scam.

After getting this very suspicious call and contacting abuse@chase.com I got the response below. I cannot believe that Chase would not list the number anywhere. Contacting the number on the card they had nothing on record. I guess this is due to a Quickpay transaction and their Internet department does not talk to other departments or something.

Thank you for contacting us concerning the telephone
communication you received.

We have reviewed the phone number and can confirm that it
is a valid number for Chase.  If you have any questions or
concerns about this phone number, please contact us at

I received a robo call from 1-800-366-1962 asking me to verify certain information on two questions.  I listened then hung up when I was asked to enter my atm pin number.  I immediately called my bank and was told to never give out personal information because the bank uses real people when they need to verify any activity on your account.  The representative checked with the Fraud Unit and was told there was no information or notes about unusual activity.  I am glad I didn't answer any questions.  I think this is a scam.

and they confirmed it is not a Chase number.
Also, I don't have any Chase cards!!!!

Another weird thing,  the same number just called as I am typing this up, and  on my caller ID, there is no Chase Fraud Service only (toll free caller).

this is NOT a scam! i worked for chase for 3 years as a teller and my husband currently works there. if you make an online quick pay or external transfer of some sort, they will call to verify if you have done so. the reason why many people this it is a scam is because this number is only supposed to be associated with that purpose and does not have anything to do with chase accounts, its purpose is to find out if you were the one who made the transfer. as soon as you confirm, the transfer will be made available to the other person/party.

Long story short: The number appears legit. Automated system that requested some basic security questions and said that it was trying to verify a specific and large transaction (which was legit).  I just stopped answering the questions and waited for an operator to come on the line. She confirmed that there are a lot of fraudulent spoofed caller IDs and suggested that I call Customer Service at number on my card and ask for Fraud Prevention because she could not help me and that it was the safest way to proceed.  So, it appears legit but call the number on your card. Mine was a legit transaction but maybe yours is not. No harm calling but maybe a problem if you don't.

1. 1-800-366-1962 is a legit Chase number - per Chase Fraud dept
2. The people there who initate calls are morons - that's an insult to morons, sorry
3. Any scammer can spoof a phone number so never ever ever give out info to someone who calls you.
As some posters said, call the number on the card.

4. I am dumping Chase because of the imbecilles at Chase who call from this number.

5. Given that everyone here accuses everyone else of not telling the truth, and you all have bogus user names anyway, I can be verified or conatcted - just take out asc chr 95 : g_jr@ro_ck_ley.net

Kat Negrete is absolutely correct. This is NOT a fraud call, it is indeed from Chase Fraud Prevention team. If you get a call from this #, make sure to call back directly Chase and get it cleared up otherwise your transfer will get held up.
