This IS legit.  I've been ignoring these calls for weeks because I did get a text that was a scam shortly before the calls started.  A former employer contacted me and said the fraud calls were being made to them as well so I called the official number on the back of my CitiBank card.  I was connected to their fraud department who verified that unauthorized purchases had been made on my account.  My account has been closed and a new card is in the mail.

I agree with the others here - Always call the official number on the reverse of your card if you're concerned.  The credit card company can verify from there whether the messages are legit.  I'm so glad I called.

Sergio from NRS keeps calling my cell phone for someone with the last name Gonzalez, which is no one I know, must have been the last person to own my phone. They call everyday it seems, its getting rather annoying. I called back telling them to stop calling me that the Gonzales person no longer has this number and if they listened to my voicemail message they would realize that I have a completely different name.

I received a message from this number on my phone.  The message sounded as if the message was from the IRS, not NRS.  Because it was a 1-800 number I did an internet search to find this website.  The women or man, had a strong accent, so I am assuming now it was "NRS" or they were trying to "trick" someone.

This looks like a suspicious number. I got an email posing it from one of the creditcard companies saying that there is a security issue with my credit card account, and asked me to call this number(1-800-386-6624) and enter a code (as supplied in the mail) in order to fix the security issue.

I got a text from this number and it asked me to call them with a pin mentioned in the txt. But I wasn't quite sure, so I logged into my CC a/c to verify if this is legit. When i called customer service using a different number, they said that it was a valid text because there were some fraud charges on my CC.

So atleast in my experience this seems to be legit, but for your safety you could always call your cust. rep using a different number or a number known to you and re-verify if a text or a call from the above mentioned number is valid/legit or not.

This is Citibank's automated early fraud detection warning number. It is quite legitimate, however, you can always call the number on the back of your card (and should do so if you ignore answering this number). Even if you don't answer this call and instead call the number on the back of your card, once you enter your card number, you will automatically be transferred to the early fraud detection desk. But this number is NOT a collection agency of any kind, and you should follow up with Citibank if this number calls with delay.

this is citibank's anti-fraud number, not a collection agency.  BTW, the call Type selection needs another option to match these kinds of calls

Recently I to have been harassed by this company sometimes twice a day. I do not answer an unknown phone number shown on my caller ID.  My thought is if its important they can leave a message. The message says I owe money to someone. I have excellent credit and do not owe anyone , that includes AT&T.  My thought is if I did then why don?t they send a letter stating that. I have never received any notification of such in the mail. PHONE CALL HASSELS ARE NOT THE LEGAL WAY TO COLLECT DEBTS

NEVER EVER give your credit card info., S.S.# or any other private info. to a debt collector.  I use to work for the BBB and, believe me,  even if you are not the person they are looking for they will NOT hesitate to take your info. and destroy you credit forever.  I,too, have been called many times by this company looking for someone I don't know.  Each time, I tell them they have the wrong person and, yet, the continue to call daily. I even left a mesage to them on my anwering machine saying the same thing. So, yesterday I called AT&T's Annoyance Bureau and reported it. Then, I called my old friends at the BBB and reported it to them.  Then I called the Federal Trade Commision and they are sending a Cease and Desist letter to this F$#@!*&@ company.  One more note to all who see this, just before I left the BBB we learned about companies calling people "claiming" to be debt collectors.  They leave messages asking people to call back at a certain phone #.  When the people called back they were CHARGED for the phone call and the company gets the money. They're making alot of money doing this.  NEVER call back a debt collector or any 800# you don't know.

Just called 3/2/10 ...black chick who could not talk faster  same number 800-386-7876 for return call to NRS. Number came in on 000-000-0000 yep, first time I had seen that.
Anyhow, I did have some bills and dealt with all kinds of idiots (never spoke with one...ever) just listened to message they left, when they bothered. But I am now clear with everyone, glad to know I f-ed with so many of these con men. Legally got rid of them without paying them a cent.

This call was for my brother, who may have owed something to ATT, I don't know, but I do know they called me and do the whole fake urgency thing, heard every trick before, kinda enjoy it now. I just never answer any area code or number that is suspect, they can leave a message.

If you read enough of these people have payed to these folks that promise them calls and things will stop. Don't talk and don't pay.....calls stop. If you read enough of these, even if you did nothing, you get as many calls for telling them you are not the person they want...They are payed to collect, why help them? They can't do anything to you but scare you

a "Steven Garcia" i.d. #76 (according to him) spoke with me this morning. I returned a call from this # 800-386-7876, and this "garcia" guy was polite...at first. I told him this had to do with my mother, but her english is not that good. He told me to put her on the phone, just so he could get her permission to speak with me about this matter. She did. I then asked "garcia" to please explain what is going on. He did. He claimes an unpaid bill (at&t) is the reason for the calls. He told me the amount, date, and then just asked for a creditcard # or checking #. I told him to hold on, and started asking for a " written notification of the debt, which WE are entitled to per the Federal Trade Commission Fair Debt Collection laws," but then he got RUDE in the blink of an eye! He just started yelling over me, wouldn't answer anything. So I asked to speak to a manager because I wanted to complain, but "STEVEN GARCIA #76" flat out told me NO! He then said this didn't even involve me, they don't have to talk to me, I don't have rights to ask anything, and that I should put my mother back on the phone. The whole time, he was yelling over my questions. I then started to tell him things, direct quotes, from the FTC guidelines which only made him INSULT me by yelling, "You think you're smart? You don't even know what you're talking about! You think you know things?!? You don't know ANYTHING!!!" I finally just hung up. I then called back right away to file a complaint. I told the lady that I wanted to file a complaint, and that I needed to speak to a manager. She said hold on, 4 seconds pass, and guess who gets on the line with me?!?! STEVEN GARCIA #76, wow, what are the chances? All of a sudden he's a MANAGER now?!?! I told him that I just called, he cut me off AGAIN, he knew who I was. He then just started SCREAMING at me over the phone, and the las thing I heard this time RIGHT before I hung up was, "Fu!# you." So yeah, I filed a formal complaint with the FTC, then with the BBB, I aslo contacted another party so far. So please DON'T give up people! There ARE things WE can do. For a list of the FTC Fair Debt Collection laws, OUR rights, plus what they AREN'T supposed to do, go to this link:

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre18.shtm

Believe me people, the FTC WILL help you. They already know of this company. The more complaints, the better...for us anyway.

And your excuse for continually calling people AFTER being told the person you are asking for isn't at that number?  You need my personal info when you call asking for someone who is not and has never been at this number? Your refusal to give addresses so the people you are harassing can send you written requests for validation or cease and desist notices?

you people are stupid. the only reason we ask for personal info is to VERIFY we are talking to the right party. PER FEDERAL LAW we cannot release personal information to someone that feels like they need to be NOSEY.....get it?  so if you owe a bill PAY IT and the calls WILL (I PROMISE!!) STOP. pretty simple right?.........

They have violated the fair debt law when threatening to report to credit agency and have my credit ruined, and not giving me 10 days to dispute the discrepency that I feel there is.  I will be filing a report about them to the agency who hired them.  They were abusive, threatening and intimidating on the phone.

NRS is calling my cell phone and asking for someone who is not me and not anyone I have ever known.  The first time, I nicely called back to tell them I was NOT E. Starr.  The person then hounded me saying "OH, she't just not there?"  Complete scum.  I have no unpaid debts and nothing is in collection, not that it matters as it's not even my name.  SO I just saw this:

"When contacted by a collector, take as much information as possible from the caller. Ask for the name of the company, address, the caller name, fax and phone number, amount owned, and the name of the creditor who passed your account to them. Also, tell them you expect to receive a notice in the mail concerning this debt. The last step is very important because you need to have proof of the debt in question in writing."

Anybody have the address for NRS?

They left a message.  All she said was that she was Amber from Dallas.  She said she needed to discuss some paperwork with me.  She said to call her back at 800-386-7876 ext. 2442.  I'm not calling her back because I have no idea what it is about.  Her message was very vague in my opinion.  She can leave a more detailed message next time if she wants me to call her back.

You should make sure you get the company name right. 1.800.386.7876 goes to National Recovery Systems and NOT National Recovery Services. I have dealt with National Recovery Services and they are in my mind a fair and reputable company. I can't say anything regarding National recovery Systems because I have not dealt with them.
