Just called Yak (call centre in Canada), 1-800-409-7235 and requested that they not call our number again. The rep took our number and stated that we will not receive any more calls. Let's see if it happens.

Calm down and save your energy for something a little more substatial then yelling at tellemarketers...geez....

They have called me at least once a day for the past week. Today was my third request to be placed on the do not call list. I even requested a registration number to prove they'd added me (as described by the CRTC on their website) but they were clueless. What's this about a $10,000 fine and how do I get them slapped with one?

Looks like the "Do not call" legislation is a load of crap now because of lobbying... Shows we should get on it... read that article and then contact the Minister of Industry.

I get a call from this number every day- and this is a retail store! I answer says hello and I get dead air, no one has ever said anything! I'm so glad I found this site, I called the 490 number, and spoke to a rep who said they would remove me from the list. Here's hoping.

They are calling me 2-3 times a day I am home sick and it is realllllly annoying. They hang up shortly after I answer with no one coming on line at all..

They have called me 12 times over the last 7 days, all with dead silence. I am on the line with them right now.... and was met with silence when I got through to someone, what a surprise.... I complained to the CRTC already... sick of it!!!

I have been guilty of this so many times. We have conversations inbetween pulling calls, then when you say hello you might hear some of the conversation. That happened to me baaad last night because I thought the guy hung up and I didn't put it on mute to pull the next call.
He wasn't tauting you, probably just didn't hear you.
Sorry that happened.

PLEASE take my @#$@#@@ number off your GOD DAMN list!!! What part of "not interested" in your piece of #@$# service needs to EXPLAINED further? Maybe your
company needs to take some english recognition classes. Are your telemarketing managers and upper echelon so ##@$%## simple?? Harrassing potential customers are in the best interests of your competition. So keep up the great work. Your CEO's will need all the panhandling techniques when the company swirls down the crapper.

This number has shown up on call display many times over the last couple of months and I finally answered rescently to dead air about a week ago. Today I answered again to the same thing and after a minute i said something and the man started to laugh and did this several times. He was taunting me. I could also hear many people in the back ground trying to make a sale, I believe.

Got a problem with Yak Communications? Call their parent company Globalive Communications Corp. @ 1-877-445-8606 and let them know your displeasure with Yak's telemarketing practices.

I called them several times @ 1800-490-7235
Put my phone on mute...
and waited....
Eventually I asked how annoying this was to them...?
This might get across how fed up people are...!

Tanya,
You and I have had similar experiences. I too spoke to Ken at Yak Canada, who then directed me to the US call station. He informed me that he had received many calls of this nature and that the calls were indeed originating from the United States call centre at 1-866-434-7661. I then called the US toll free number and an operator said she'd forward my number to the company's technician and reiterated to me that Yak US had nothing to do with these calls. I then called Yak Canada again and requested to be placed on their Do Not Call List. In the four days prior to these exchanges, I had received calls from Yak. On the first occasion, some fellow had tried to sell me Yak services. I informed him I wasn't interested and that I was happy with my service. The next day and the following days, I received more calls. Following the days I was asked to be put on the do not call list, I was again called by Yak. I used to be an occasional customer of their pay-per-use LD service, but considering the aggrevation and nuisance these past few weeks, I'm opting never to use their service again. I take great pains to not share my private number and am unlisted, so I'm unimpressed with Yak Canada.

Oh, and I'm gonna email Yak America (info@yakamerica.com) and let them know that Yak Canada is giving us their number, and telling us it's something else. I'm sure they don't appreciate Yak Canada's victims tying up their lines! Yak also has a Montreal office (call 1-450-923-4868), if you want to complain there, too.
| Tanya 2007-03-23 21:01:16 Telemarketer |
Kayla: Yes, they tried giving me that other number (1-866-434-7661), in an attempt to get me out of their hair. They told me it was the number for a company in Texas that handles their telemarketing. It turns out that it's actually Yak America's number, and Yak America has nothing to do with this. They are just hoping that when you call, and Yak America doesn't know what you're talking about, you'll get frustrated and give up. Well, I don't know about you, but shenanigans like that only succeed in making me more determined! I have repoted them to the CRTC (the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission), PhoneBusters, the RCMP and RECOL (Report Economic Crime Online). You Really only need to submit a report to the CRTC and PhoneBusters, as both PhoneBuster's and RECOL are just divisions of the RCMP anyways. To save time I just typed up a report, then emailed copies of the same report. You can email a complaint to the CRTC, using their online complaint form at http://www.crtc.gc.ca/RapidsCCM/Register.asp?lang=E and you can email a report to PhoneBuster's at info@phonebusters.com. I am also going to file a complaint on ripoffreport.com (Nationwide consumer reporting web site where consumers can enter complaints about companies and view a history of past complaints against companies). Oh, did you see j's post, above ("this is ridiculous since up until today, i WAS a yak customer."). Maybe when they lose enough customer's they'll wake up!

You mean to tell me it's Yak communication again?? I answered the phone a few weeks ago and this woman tried to get me to switch to Yak communications and read off a whole paragraph on long distance savings and then argued with me that I should switch to them because Aliant charges 5 cents a minute for long distance and they charge 3.5 cents a minute. Big Woop! I was so angry after that call, but I did not notice the caller's number...now they're starting again...well, now that I know who it is, gonna give them a piece of my mind!! How could they even get my number? I'm an unlisted number!!
| Angela 2007-03-23 03:24:53 Unknown |
I see the number come up on my phone, when the phone says UNKNOWN NAME or UNKNOWN CALLER even, PRIVATE, we dont answer. Because if it is important they can leave a message. I ignored it for a few days, recognizing this.. then I answered it and didn't say anything or breath. I heard a disconecting sound, and then i guess they picked back up while i was still on the phone, a guy said "HELLO!?". and then he hung up. so i came online and put the number down in the GOOGLE.COM search bar and found all of these posts.

I just called Yak to ask them about this. They said their telemarketing department is in another office and that they can remove my number from their list (yay!) but it will take up to three days to process (boo!) and that the better solution to be removed from ALL calling lists is to use the form on the website for the canadian marketing association (https://cornerstonewebmedia.com/cma/submit.asp)
If you still find you are getting calls, do what I've always done. Tell the telemarketer you want to be put on their "do not call list". They should do it immediately and without question. One time I got a song and dance about how it would take a month and since I was at my computer I googled the law and quoted chapter and verse, especially the part about $10k fine for calling me again with a 6 month period.
Enjoy!
