I was suspicious of this number as well. I received it in an email about an inquiry made on my online account. So I called my Fidelity branch and the reps there were able to confirm that it is a Fidelity number. It goes to their file department or something.

I was very suspicious when I got a card through the mail from this number.  I spent about hour and half investigating this number.  It is legit.  The card I received was concerning my user name and password.  The card was to confirm whether I had made a change in  User Name and Password.

Received a little card in the mail from "Fidelity Investments" with this phone number on it, card said a password change had been made to my account, didn't even know I had an account with them, Even though they sent me the card, they had NO info. on me under my name, they wanted my date of birth, ss# and phone number....all the things they tell you to NEVER give by phone, when I asked to speak to a manager, they said she was on the other line and couldn't talk, had 2 different PO Boxes listed on it, both in Dallas, TX, have no idea who these people are. Just saying it looked like a scam to me.

It's real. I also went through Customer Service line 800 835-5097 and they verified a check waiting for me of about $300 from an employer of 15 years ago. Seemed odd as I currently receive periodic statements from that account to current mailing address, but it is legit. Verified current address, check is in the mail...wow, THAT doesn't sound so good!

The real deal.  Like others here I called back at Fidelity's main number and found that I'd overpaid on a loan against my 401k a few years ago by almost $146.  I admit I was hoping for a real windfall, but how can I complain?  Almost nothing as sweet as found money, especially when I don't have to bother my conscience with who might have lost it......  They re-cut the check and sent it right out.  Took all of 5 days to get it.  You don't make the call, it's your loss.

I did not get a call, but an email with this phone number.

What a sad commentary on the world today (thanks to sleazy scammers who I wish die painful deaths from slow moving cancers) that even a genuine email from a genuine company like Fidelity that I DO business with was something I had to look up online, including the phone number.

Happy to report this is a genuine number (at least on Oct 6, 2011 ;-) ) of Fidelity. They had mailed me a $250 cheque in 2009 (which I never received) for my 401K leftover in their accounts from a job I left in 2003. So they followed up, and a new cheque is being mailed to replace that.

In this economy, it's not the million Dollars I'd have wanted, but the $250 is still a gift. Good luck to you all.

I also received an email from Fidelity.  I Google'd the Fidelity website. Called the 800 number from the website and it was true, I was due money. They are sending me an uncashed check from an old job for $199.  Wow, who knew? An email that is not a scam.  When i received the email through Hotmail it did have a verification on it that it was a legitimate email from Fidelity but i still didn't believe it but it was true.

Completely legitimate number and email.  I too was VERY skeptical and let the lady have it...for Fidelity sending out a very "scammy"-looking email.....she said she would inform the powers that be.  So, feel safe to call this number.  This was an outstanding $300+ check (they will tell you the gross amount and the tax on that amount....giving you any net residual, if you did indeed have money left in an old account) from an employer plan from 13 years ago.  I too asked why it took so long if they have had my email.....her response was that they just recently switched to online notifications for some of their older plans in their system.  Good luck.

This is for real. We received an email from Fidelity and thought it was a scam. I went to Fidelity Web site and did a live chat with Fidelity Rep and they confirmed the number was their's. Called the number and it was for old employer who had distributions in 401K in 2002. Fidelity said they had sent a check since I left company that year, but it was never cashed. So they will now resend it but I had to contact plan coordinator to update my address . My question is if they had my email address why it took 9 years to contact me. WTH?????

Despite the "nay sayers" indicating that this email is a "scam", I too called Fidelity customer service directly (800-835-5097) through my employer hotline and was told that the number in the email is legit, and they in fact did send me the email, but if I was leary they would be happy to investigate further. About 5 minutes later Fidelity confirmed they were holding money in an old account of mine from when the company I worked for was just a "pilot" and has since rolled up into the main corporation. It's not the POWERBALL jackpot, but $3k plus is an unexpected surprise!

Absolutely safeguard your personal information, but please don't trash a company's reputation with falsehoods and slander!

Totally legit. Received an email to call that number. To double-check, I logged into Net Benefits and called their customer service number instead. They immediately knew what I was talking about.  $115 was waiting for me from 2009.

When you call, be ready to give your ID and password, or your SS#.

This is 100% real!!   I received the same email and was iffy about it so instead of calling the number provided I called fidelity with the numbers I have for them since I have accounts with them (1-800-fidelity).  It's good to be cautious.  If you don't trust it, go to fidelity's website and get their customer service number and call them.  I now have an extra $800 in the bank!  it turns out it was from a company I worked at 15 years ago. Like I said if you don't think its true,  don't use the phone number in the email, go directly to their website and call customer service.  They found my check, corrected my address and reissued it!

It's real. I followed the advice found here (Thank you!) called my Fidelity benefits plan directly using my normal verification process and they have a check for ~$122 coming my way.  It's from a previous employer's plan and a different benefits admin.  This plan still had a really old address.  circa 1998...it is a roll over check and being sent to me to then send back with my rollover form from Fidelity.

It is a valid email.  I too suspected an issue, but I went to the NetBenefit site and called the first 877 number I found.  It took a little digging by the person, but they said i hadn't cashed a $270.95 check from 2008.  BOOYAH!

I can also verify that this is legit.  Thanks for the help from the group here.  I piggyback on what Dan-o said.  I called the number form the website and not the email  The number from Fidelity's site is 800-835-5097.
Once I knew I was really on the line with Fidelity, I entered my info and spoke to a representative. ( Who then gave me information that verified that everything was legit. The rep read an old address to me and from that I knew that this was truly my account)
In my case, there was a lost check from two years ago ( 2009)  and I was able to get a new one cut and mailed.
I appreciate this posting site as I am VERY cautious about numbers that are not already saved in my phone.

I received a notice in the mail to call 800-425-2363 as my pin has been blocked; well, I look online for the # at Fidelity & called 800-835-5097 (EMPLOYER SPONSORED ACCOUNTS) & they said that my account has a zero balance & that it was blocked due to the PIN being incorrectly used, which could have been someone with the same last name. So my account is still closed as its been 2 yrs & they will keep the block on as requested by me. So, the 800-425-2363 seems valid, but again, I called the 800-835-5097.
