I received a call from them today saying it was a personal matter with Macy's. It showed up on our privacy director so I did not answer and googled this because it sounded fishy. I am glad I did.

Same report as above.  Received record message 3 days in a row from 866-849-3243 with request to call them back at 800-511-3881 concerning Macy's account. Finally called back, Indian man answered and wanted account information.  I said, "No!" He then said, "fine, we can search from your phone number." I said, "No!"  He would not tell me what it was about without verification of you I was - I said you won't get info until you verify who you are...

Received repeated call for past 3 days with message saying I needed to cal 1-800-511-3881 regarding a Personal Business Matter.  The call was from 1-866-849-3243.  My account has 0 balance so I knew there was nothing wrong but I called this number anyway.  There was an automated recording at first saying "this call will be monitored for quality assistance" and then a man answered.  His first language was obviously not English.  It was loud in the back ground and the phone was breaking up.  I hung up the phone.

They are a collection agency. I get this call every morning 9:00. My husband works night shifts and this call is a harrasement. I called them back - they couldn't find my phone number or name - needed ssn or card#. I hang up and called Macy's. My payment was misaplyed to a different account (I beleive, Famous Barr leftover account???). Whatever theyr call reason is - this is a bad practice for Macy's. And it is always a good idea to call the number on the back of your card (instead of giving personal or account info to these agencies).

I received the same call.  I called back, and they knew the exact amount of the credit I had on my Macy's card.  I did give them some personal information, and after reading the posts here I panicked and thought I had given out my information to some scammers.

Fortunately, I called the Macy's number on my statement to confirm and they let me know that this number, 1-800-511-3881 IS a Macy's number for billing issues.  It was all legitimate, so I'm relieved.

Anyhow, I'd recommend calling Macy's on their regular number (1-800-830-3104) if you get this message on your voicemail.

Have received 3 different automated messages on my answering machine asking me to call this number regarding a "personal business matter with my Macy's account."  The first time I called the recording gave the "this call will be monitored for quality assistance" message and the line disconnected.  I called again, got the same message and then someone came on the line and I couldn't understand a word they were saying.

Since the message on the answering machine was very general and automated each time I am suspecting phishing.

The message said it was Macy's and they had private information to talk with me about.  I have a zero balance and have not gotten any written information about someone stealing account numbers or the loss of data from Macy's.  I did not call back and Googled the number and found may others in the same situation.

Received a call from Mr. Scott saying I had a balance of $630.19 on my Macys card and he used an address that I have not resided at for 8 years.  I would not provide any information, but he was trying to get info from me.  
I do not have that Macys card any longer and told him that I pull annual credit reports and have no outstanding credit balances.

Received the same call about my Macy's account from this number. I have a zero balance. I checked my account on-line and all looks OK. I just deleted their call and I am not responding.

26 Jun 08. I got the same call concerning a private/personal matter. I tried to find the 800 number in the Macy's directory. I couldn't find any record. I returned the call and the first thing they wanted was my account number. I told them I would report the call. I am on the do not call list and feel this may be a way around that or just some type of fraud

on June 18, I also, like Kim S, received a recorded message that said that it was Macys and they needed to me to call today on a private/personal matter. As I have nothing "personal" to discuss with Macys, I googled the number they told me to call. the call came from 866 849 3243.

Indicated that they had a problem with my Macy's account and asked me to call them.

On June 13, I received a recorded message said it was Macy's and they needed me to call right away on a "private" matter.  I thought maybe my card number had been stolen as I know my account is paid in full at all times.  When I called back they said they could not find my account from either my home or cell phone and needed either my SS# or my credit card number to pull up the account.

Smelling a very rotten fish with a tinge of curry, I hung up at that point and Googled their number!

Said they were from Macy's and that my account was delinquent, which was not possible. I refused to give my account number and suspected it was a scam of some sort. Hung up the phone.
