These people called me today wanting to talk about an account I am supposedly past due on but the guy that called me didn't know anything he had to transfer me and then I got disconnected. I am not past due on any of my bills.

I received a phone message on 3/17/12, with a woman's voice who asked "the business owner or accounts payable department" to call their number back 1-800-618-6705 for an important message. When I call the number back, it just says that the voice message box is full. ?? From the posts I've seen, I'm thinking this is a scam.

I got that call twice, too. I returned call, got a name from the answering person, who refused to give me any information unless I gave my phone number. I refused to do so. The person did identify the company as RPM and told me it was "a financial institute." I declined to participate further. My phone records show the calling number as 800-711-9647. I called that one back, but nobody was available to take my call.
If this had been a legitimate call, I believe the individual answering would have tried harder to be straight with me. It sounded as if the caller was trying to find people who would not defend themselves.

My 85 year old mother got a cell phone in September and since then this number has been calling her twice a day. Perhaps the people who had the number before her had a delinquent account somewhere. I don't know how to make them stop - I may suggest she get a different number. It's either a real debt collection agency with lousy methods, or a scam. She never answers, thank goodness.

I moved to Canada 3 years ago, and out of my parents' house 10 years ago. They just started calling my parents, asking for me - won't give details. Stupid.

Larry 2011-06-06 20:58:10 Unknown
this is a collector who is buying up old accounts and trying to intimitate your phone number answerer to pony up...etc...etc..
In calfiornia there is a ordinace that if your collector is attempting to collect an aged account over four years old..they are PASSED the statute of limitation. They 'must' bring suit within four years..otherwise they are SOL.
bob 2011-06-06 20:58:10 Unknown
statute of limitations is 7 yrs

Received a call from RPM @ 1-800-618-6705...asked for accounts payable regarding an outstanding Verizon bill....think its a scam.
Peg 2011-06-06 20:58:10 Unknown
It may or may not be a scam. RPM is the collection agency that Verizon turned our account over to. We moved our office and ported the phone numbers to a different company and Verizon never sent the final bills to our new address so we didn't pay them. They are legit, at least when they call us.

some lady named Cindy called my office asking for my supervisor "Dawn" didnt sue her last name. She said she was from Seattle. I asked her what the nature of the call was and she said, are you the husband? i said NO she got all nasty and rude and gave me her number 800-618-6705 ext 1375. When i ask her how did she know Dawn she got real annoyed and raised her voice to me and said have her call me back, this doesn't pertain to you. I hope she calls back because i will have a field day with her and piss her off big time ask stupid annoying question for being a scam. The name of the company that appears on my caller ID is "Intertel Voice" 800-618-6705 is the number that shows. Is there a way to verify if this is a legit company or just fraud?

Have rec'd many calls from RPM also. I did have a cell bill from Verizon which I disputed and eventually paid off in a settlement agreement. I have all copies of cancelled checks and statements. RPM also goes by the name of RMS out of Bethlehem, PA. The actual fax number for RPM is 888-203-3640. Please submit a complaint to the Better Business Bureau in your area.

Further info: In California, work for a non-profit in San Francisco. I'm reasonably certain this isn't legitimate.

Just got a call from "Juana" asking me to call RPM in reference to a file number... right.

These people keep calling for my boss. "Chris Henderson" called today saying that he was calling for "Washington." He would not be specific about which company he was working for. He demanded that my boss call by 12:00 or there would be consequences. I repeatedly asked him what company he was with, and he got more and more RUDE! I hung up him.

If you have caller ID just ignore them. I have to admit they are sophisticated with their illegal harassment.
They come in as one number (434) 533-9029 but leave you with another 800-618-6705-X1373. Personally they can continue to call until you know what freezes over.

I work in the corporate office of a small company and we keep getting calls from this number. I read through a number of comments and none are in my state (as far as I see). I am located in Michigan. If they are requesting money from someone who does not owe, illegal. What usually happens is a debtor gives your contact number instead of theirs... that happens all the time so we receive all the collections calls. OR, if the number requests the business owner to call back, a number of times they are seeking a debtor who is an employee of the owner. I worked in collections when I was younger, but we never did cold-calls. Sometimes, if a debtor has no contact #, we were required to call a relative or co-worker. Really crappy.
Quin 2009-12-01 20:17:29 Unknown
Looking for accts payable or our boss. Unprofessional attitude with no patient. Doesn't like regular collection phone call.
