I received an email this morning from Discover saying I was eligible for a credit line increase and then received a call from this number this afternoon.  I didn't answer, but after reading the postings here, I'm fairly certain that it is Discover.

I just verified with Discover customer service that it is a legit call from them. I had to enter the call type as unknown since it is not quite telemarketing, they are offering a credit line increase.

Yes, I agree. I think they are just being nosy. We've had this card for well over 20+ years and are now retired. Living on S.S., our income is now GREATLY reduced. We sure don't need a credit limit increase as our balance is never over $70.00 these days. I'm just not going to call back. No point to it. If they lower my credit limit, I'd probably just be insulted and cancel the account.
So there to them, right?   [;-)

I've been getting calls from 800-635-0014 too, and its Discover. Caller ID comes up Toll Free, so I don't answer. I received an email last week about earning a credit increase for maintaining my account in good standing, and they want you and give them updated information on your income and employment. I don't want a credit increase, so didn't call, so now they are calling me every day. I would imagine this is the sneaky way they can go about asking you for income/employment info since that info isn't on your credit report. Especially if you've had your card for a long time. I'm sure if you've had a drop in income or are unemployed, they'd use that as an excuse to lower your limit instead. Nosy!

SHILL - DO NOT call this number. Use the number from your card, or statement. NEVER give personal information on a call you didn't make.

Have been getting calls from this number for the last week or so. Discover sent me a letter about 4 weeks ago letting me know they were upping my credit limit. They never call they always send a letter and that goes for all other credit cards I have also. More often than not they just up the limit and I happen to see it. No letter or anything.

Please don't be so naive about these identity theft attempts.  If Discover Card wants to increase your credit line, they can simply do it and send you a letter.  This IS a spoof call that only displays 'TOLL FREE CALL' on your Caller ID.

They've been calling me for three weeks and sometimes twice a day. If it is Discover card, I never called them about anything. They even call at 7:30 pm.

It might be a real number at Discover, but as I have not requested an increase from them in more than 5 years it is most likely a follow up to an identity theft attempt: someone applied for credit in my name, but I have a credit lock on my history: creditors have to speak with me at my registered phone number before giving credit or granting an increase. In fact, since they did not disclose that this call is in response to a recent request (which is required by fed law) I am cancelling my account and card with Discover and forwarding the incident to the DOJ.

Actually its not a sales call, or b/s. I was having this number call me for weeks finally one time I answered it. They wanted to increase the credit line on my discover card. I was hesitant at first, but they verified my info to me that no one else could get a hold of so it was legit. Really nice people from the back office credit department of discover and they increased my credit line a few grand. So accomplished 2 things on this call now the number is not going to call for a while and they gave me more credit to pay bills.  I'm also sure you could call this number back to have a person review for a credit increase as well.

I was wrong, totally wrong.  It IS Discover.  I called their regular number and asked.  They were following up on a request for an increase that was denied.  Still denied, but it is a legitimate phone number for Discover.

I would have to doubt this since it is not the way credit line increases works.

It is Discover card calling because your account is eligible for a credit line increase. They sent me a letter and then called. They were very nice though, they didnt try to sell me anything and there was no fee for the increase or any other changes besides the increase to my credit line.

Total scam.

"Juan" (would not disclose last name) said he was from Discover and if I had received their mail in mid-Jan.  Wouldn't give any specifics about anything.  Felt VERY spammy, VERY not-legit
