Twice today received calls from Wells Fargo re credit card for a person that is unknown to me.  I've had this telephone number for close to three years.  I called WF went thru a discussion explaining that I have never had any dealings with WF and do not know the person for whom they are calling.  I asked that they stop calling my number.  Within a couple hours I received, yet again, a call from WF with info for the unknown person.  I called WF again, had to wait a long time to get to talk with their "customer non-service" rep.  She said it would take 24 hours for them to stop the computer-generated callings.  I said that I considered these continuing calls to be harassment and asked that WF stop calling sooner.  She hung up on me.

I'm now blocking 800-642-4720.

I got a similar message on my machine for someone who used to use this number, so it's a little fishy--if it's an important call, why did they use an old number? I called the number and asked to have our number removed, but I was told that the fraud dept. that does that was closed, so I could call back or call them directly at 800-723-5533.

This is Wells Fargo.  They suspect some type of fraud activity on some cards and it is just to alert customers that a new card will be sent.  This is a very annoying and suspicious phone call when you are asked to 'press any number to continue.'  Sounds like a scam and I reported that although I'm sure nothing will be done about it.  Maybe it's time to cancel the card completely and find a more honest and efficient credit card company.

I got this call last night n hung up and then called it back..
.When it was answered the person DID SAY" WELL's FARGO CUSTOMER SERVICES FRAUD DEPARTMENT"

They claimed to be looking for a JOSE GONZALEZ who gave them MY phone number on his CC application or whatever.
What makes no sense is I have had my number for 15 years.......I certainly would NOT want a card from a bank that does not check the residence and phone number of the person.

I called a few friends who do back at WELLS FARGO all who put blocks are their cards and fraud alerts since the TARGET  problem.

You  can solve this whole worry by contacting Trans Union, Exquifax and Experian and fill out a FREEZE ACCT form. It is rather detailed and my ask questions you need to do some research first like a CAR Loan from 20 years ago... if so they then send you the form by mail after they can 100% confirm who you are.

Unlike LIKELOCK and these other so called CREDIT CARD WATHERS who do nothing but tell you every time someone check your score which can bring DOWN your FICO SCORE just for looking, this service is through each and cost only 10.00 NOBODY can get a PEAK at your info ,open any accts not even get a phone unless you unlock it with a special pin number they issue you......

Waiting to get ripped off and then wait for LIFELOCK to fix it and get all your money back sounds like a HUGE HEADACHE that you end up losing anyway. I tired it by attempting to open  Cell Phone acct and within minutes my wifes cell was ringing and it was Equifax calling to see if I was trying to open an acct at the STORE inXXXXXX TOWN !!!! So they are legite and the BEST 10 BUCKS I ever spent.....

I got a call from this number claiming there was a fraud alert on one of my checks from Wells Fargo. I hung up on them and called the bank. There are no alerts or problems with my accounts. They were phishing.

It is in fact Wells Fargo.  Not a scam.  Still, it is a good practice to never give any information unless you have personally initiated the call to a known number.  If they ask you for info, simply tell them you will call the wells fargo number on the back of your card and go from there.

I'm away from the office right now, but called in for my messages and got this "Important Message" from Wells Fargo.  So I don't know what my caller id said because I'm not actually at my office to look at that.

But i wrote down all the details from the message (which sounded more like a robo-call than a live person).  She said this was regarding the new Wells Fargo credit card sent to me which I hadn't activated yet.  Huh?  I've never applied for a Wells Fargo credit card and have never had any transactions with them.  No bank accounts; no credit cards; no mortgage --- nada.

They gave me this same 800 # to call, or in the alternative, suggested I call 1-866-537-8424 to activate the card or go to www.wellsfargo.com/activate.  Now I'm wondering --- maybe this is part of an identity fraud thing going on?  Someone else has used my name for a credit card?  But why on earth would someone trying to scam me provide my phone #?!  All makes no sense.....

That was the same thing that happened to me!  I was a little suspicious because he had asked me for my social security number and when I asked for the name, he told me that he could not give it to me.  He said that if I don't cooperate that he would not be able to give me that information unless I verified with him.  I don't give out my whole social and what the hell kind of bank asks for the whole social??? shouldn't they just ask for the last four digits only like my other banks.  I also thought that I was a victim of identity theft and called back to atleast give him my last four and see if he could go from there.  The same guy answers...wtf???  how could that be???  something was fishy and so I hung up.

Watch out people, this might be a legit number but maybe somebody hacked it and is acting like wells fargo.  Who knows?  this world is so effing corrupt with people who have no better time than to waste away on us poor unfortunate ones who believe everything they say.

Received three calls and they did leave me a voicemail. It was Wells Fargo fraud department checking on a credit card transaction on my card.  I was told if other charge was legit I didn't need to callbth back.  I feel the number was legit in my case.

October 2012 - they have called a minimum of 10 times a day for the last 6 days. I never answer because no one I do business uses an 800 number to call me (though I may use an 800 number to contact them). It is making me INSANE! I am on the no call list, I have no idea how they got my number (unless it's from the good ol' fashioned white pages). Someone needs to stop this.

In the past  AMEX has left me a message
telling me to call them when my credit card had questionable charges.
Of course I called them back using the number on the back of my card
& they took care of the problem.
I would never give info to a person that just calls up
they could be spoofing /faking a real number

i do pay my bills, in fact my credit score is 825 and I pay off my
credit cards in full each month!!!

Pretty sure this  is a scam from a company that buys personal info from
WF & once you agree to their Preferred card for $100 you are screwed because they
now have your cc# and will keep billing you ...

Please watch out & If any bank or Credit card company calls you
call them back at the number on your card. This could be a scammer spoofing WF's number

It is a sham and not from wells fargo. I know I called up wells fargo and told them about getting several calls from that number. She told me that I could not be, it is an internal number used by customers only to call them up with any buisness that one may want to dicuss. She said also to ignore the caller and never give them any information personal or otherwise.

I called back this number and talk to a wells fargo operator and she me that no one from wells fargo should be calling me from that name. It is an internal number, it is only supposed to be used by people that bank with wells fargo and has from time to time talk to them about personal buisness. so she says to ignore the caller and never give them any information about you.

Now it is Regions Bank on an email scam that was sent to me.  They are telling me to call this number 800-642-4720 because of unautherized internet access against my account.   G.   I do not have  any credit with Regions Bank and I verified it with them.    They didn't get this chick.

Event Reminder
This is a legitimate call from Wells Fargo.  The phone number is  their "24-hour Customer Service" number per my Wells Fargo Visa statement.
They called today and my caller ID displayed "800 service" which I always assume is a telemarketer.  But I picked up anyway.  It was a recorded voice asking for verification of my making two transactions today on my Visa card.  "It" knew the amounts and generally to whom the amounts were paid.
Just to be on the safe side I checked my Visa statement for the Customer Service phone number which is 800-642-4720 and I called them.  I expressed my dislike for the caller ID coming in as "800 service".  Josh told me that is simply the way my phone service provider show it. (Cox Communications).

Always check these things out anyway.

I have a Wells Fargo account but not a credit card. The number doesn't come up Wells Fargo on the caller id so I don't answer it and no message is left.I guess it can't be that important.

Telemarketer
Wells Fargo (or a company calling on behalf of Wells Fargo) to offer me 30 days of free Credit Card services that cover my payments in the event that I lose my job, get run over by herd of elephants, get electrocuted when my 46" plasma TV falls into my bathtub, or my cat needs major limb reattachment surgery because my dog played too rough with it.

Not something I need. They tried to push it for 30 days free and if I don't want it I can cancel at any time... but you know how these things go.

Plus if you sign up for this, you would get promoted to their major sucker list and then you'll get dozens more calls. Just say no, block the number, and pay your credit card bills on time.  ;-)

I never answer when this phone number flashes up on my caller ID screen...I get called from this number EVERYDAY at 11:15 am....365 days per year, and it has been going on for years. I find it very hard to believe Verizon cannot trace this number and report this number to the feds, then it would be up to the useless federal government in Washington DC to take action. The way to stop calls from this 800 number starts with Verizon, if millions of people flooded Verizon with complaints maybe they would do something about this problem.

Got a few calls from 800-642-4720. IF they are indeed Wells Fargo, they don't leave a message which really aggravates me. My daughter has an account with them, they could at least leave a message. I am going to block them since they can't do that!
