Our country would be far better off without a bunch of harassing parasites such as yourself. You guys are so full of yourselves
and your importance that you fail to realize we live in one of the best countries in the world. We do not live in a communist country and should not be subjected to such ignorant bullying tactics. Why don't you do the taxpayers a favor and get a real job and contribute?

Wouldn't it be more cost efficient if these surveys were done by email? You could easily call and ask for an email address. This way people could answer the surveys when convenient. I did the survey last summer, nothing has changed. I receive at least 3 calls a day for the last few month. At first I just didn't have the time, now I'm annoyed and just pick up & hang up.

these scumbags cannot be from the federal govt.  the government already has things, like family income, etc., from our tax returns. also, they were asking my wife questions like " has your husband ever sexually abused you? " i told them, we weren't answering their intimate questions, and, if they had a problem with that, then, take us to court. after all, they told us we were required under penalty of law, to answer their questions. so far, haven't been advised of any court date. they have repeatedly called back, using 4 different phone numbers. i believe they are freaks, getting off on listening to people's private lives.

Fact is, jack***, that your employees ARE rude. Look at the bottom of your own f****ng post, a***ole! Even you, the pinnacle of politeness challenges people's literacy rather aggressively, I might add. Apparently, fart-sniffers like yourself would never be able to sort all that out on their own. Have a day, and remember...someone paid for your college 'education' so that you could do this for a living. Wow! ..now that IS funny!!

Get calls all the time now.  Will not answer.  What a waste of taxpayers money!  The millions spent on these surveys could do alot of good for homeless, seniors, kids on drugs, health care etc etc etc.  I was asked to be involved in a health survey 2 years ago, they hounded me and hounded me, even came to my door.  I looked it up on the website and I refused to participate for the cost of the survey was ridiculous.  I sent a letter and of course no reply.  Goes to show you where our tax dollars go.

I was just checking since this number called me... apparently its stats can asking questions... i have a couple of questions they should ask.  1/  Did I get a phone so that every Tom Dick and Harry, can phone me whenever they like to ask me questions, try to sell me stuff, or otherwise harass me? no, i got it simply to communicate with freinds and familly and to do buisness with willing businesses.  2/ If i dont have email, am i going to be a second class citizen? It seems the government and businesses like utilities and canada post feel we should all be accessible through email.... are they going to pay every citizens internet bill, so we can all have access to this wonderful technology? No, so why the hell do you think its ok to turn to a paperless society, and then cut people off who dont recieve a bill because they have no internet? couldnt these retards send amounts to the bank for authorization? and im not talking pre authorized because ive seen cases where utilities take it upon themselves to repair something and relieve the customer of huge sums of money, without concent... oh yur payments were preauthorized, but we found the house you bough had built a garage over the gas line, so we ripped up your driveway and tore down your garage, to rip up our pipe, and now you dont have gas, and since you signed a pre auth, we billed you 21 thousand dollars, ty for your payment (true story in BC)

Well I am glad I am not the only one.  More should be complaining.  This started for a couple of months ago.  They said was STATS Canada.  The call went bad when they started asking for very detailed information.  Soc Ins no, full legal name, wages, Date of birth, income etc.  who all lives there legal names, ages where I work etc.  They said they would call for the next 5 months.  They were very persistant and said it was against the law not to answer.  Well I thought that was the end of that when I gave them a rough time.  NOT. They have been calling my home day and night 5 to 6 times a day from different numbers, blocking calls and using other numbers which I will list. I asked for a paper copy of the survey to fill in and take back to STAT office of mail to them directly. They refused and that's not how its done. It takes too long. Yet they can harass Canadians for 5 months? What part of I work don't they understand? Today was the last straw.  After another 5 calls today I answered the phone. I told them that I traced their calls, asked for the Minister of STATS Can. They did not know who that was and could not give me that information.  Said it was against the law not to answer and that they would keep on calling.  Ungodly hours I might add. I requested for them to not call me again.  They said they could not do this and would keep calling until they got their answers.  I can't believe the Government is wasting our tax payer $ on this.  Calling and calling for 5 months in a row?  If this is confidential why do they need so much detail? Give me a break. We are in the age of identify theft, number spoofing etc.  They told me that they have not had problems with other folks answering all their questions. That I was the problem.  I find that hard to believe.  I have traced the calls and keeping a log.  I have had enough and will report and make calls to whom ever will listen until someone blows the lid off this. Perhaps the media needs to know. Mr. Harper as well.  Someone needs to stop this.  I just find this so hard to believe that this is our Government spending millions of dollars to harass their tax payers.  If its real I still believe this is harassment.  I thought surveys were optional?  Apparantly they are calling 60,000 Canadians at random.  Here are the numbers: 204-984-7364, 204-983-8439, 204-982-6930, 204-982-8235 204-989-8235, lots of blocked calls and this 1800 number.
I am surprised there are not further complaints. After the last few days episode I thought things would die down. NOT. Again they have resumed repeated calling again late at night and again this weekend. Now they are asking about travel.  What does this have to do with a work force study? Will this never stop? This is harassment, against the privacy act etc. I don't know what's next.  Remember they record your calls for quality assurance.  If they didn't tell you know you know.  Can anyone else out there help? Not going to be bullied around.

That survey was the general social survey on Canadian safety. We also asked you questions on what you think of the justice system, how good of a job your local police force is doing. We do this survey every 5 years. You are more then welcome to visit our website www.statcan.gc.ca and see previous results of the survey and see how this information can be beneficial.

So if StatsCan is so upright and honest, why not name themselves on Caller ID?  I've grown weary and wary of these numbers showing up on my phone, ergo have stopped answering ALL unknown callers, no matter how many "free" trips to the Caribbean I may have "won".   How am I supposed to know who is calling if they won't identify themselves. The gov't  had better come up with a better method of shaking down citizens for their private information.

The irony of the situation is they expect us to be honest with them.   It works both ways.

I  thst got a call from them they said they were from Statistics Canada. I got the call at 11:30 a.m. The call started off relatively normal but I noticed quite quickly that every 7th or 8th question starting to get a little bit on the suspicious side. Asking do we have a dog, do we have a security system, do we have a good rapport with our neighbors,  if we felt confident that if a neighbor notice something's amiss they would call the police, how many adults in the house, weather we worked for went to school, if anybody had any self defense training. To me it sounded more like they were casing the place looking for information prior to a break in.

Obviously, because of the harassment of people, and the evening or early morning calls, the callers are not bona fide government employees.  I would suggest that you give this the zero attention it deserves, and reassure grandparents.  The
bullying tactics are what one would expect from the Harper government, but I think that the abusive woman who answered is likely the scammer herself!

800-665-3393   has called twice in evening hours, claiming to be from Statistics Canada, wanting a response to a questionnaire
female caller claimed was sent out some time ago.  I probably recycled this, I told her, for I cannot find and do not remember receiving  such a document, or I would have dealt with it.  This may be  from a commercial outfit, scamming for market information, I think.

Its Stats Canada.  I was complying with survey questions when they stated that they were randomly selecting from the household names I had given and when it wasn't me, the call turned bad.  I said that the other house hold member is not willing to take surveys, worked full time and was a full time student and that they were not available during legal calling hours.  This caller than stated that they do not have to comply with call laws and can call from 8am to 11pm because they are the federal government.  They are under protection and can not be put on the "do not call list".  She then said that they will be calling until they speak with the other household member.... which will be never.

Good Morning "another stats can employee"....

It seems to me that you are quick to make some very aggressive statements towards the other responders.  I read in one of your previous posts the following statement: "you can always ask for the interviewers name and badge number and a number to call to verify this".

If you are so adamant that you are in the right and are in a position to make judgments on others via a public forum like this website, I can only assume that you would also be confident enough to provide this same forum with the following: your name, your badge number and a number to call to verify this.

Could you please provide this to this website in a timeline and accurate manner please?

We were not to impressed and yes we did comply as we have no choice.  This last call (thank goodness) was the same annoying questions  job stats, employment, etc. Then they came up with the next set of questions which was a bit peculiar as we were never asked these type of questions before.  For example. questions such as  "can we afford to replace a toaster", furniture", how much are we getting for ie", "do we have an emergency fund"  etc. I hung up as we fulfilled the basic requirements.  I looked up the number as the call display did not indicate Statistics Canada as in the past.  Needless to say glad that this is over and done with.  Still wonder why they call on weekends and at night. (must be the call centers one could guess).  One could say if we are the taxpayers paying for these government surveys, then maybe pay us to answer.  just sayin....

The hours vary quite a bit depending on your location, this particular number is a call center environment for Statistics Canada and depending which study they are calling you in regards the times trained interviewers are scheduled to be in their office vary, also depending on location you are situated. They confirm your information on contact to not only confirm they have reached the correct individual, but also some studies are protected under confidentiality laws and they can only speak to the selected individual in regards by confirming basic information such as address, name, age and such. They are legally obligated to contact any individual selected for a mandatory/required study under the statistics act of canada. IF you do not comply, there is possible legal action taken. If they state the study is voluntary then you can make it clear that you do not wish to participate, but it is important not to rush or hang up on them until they can finish their script or they may have to contact you back to finish the remainder of what was left. To individuals who claim these studies are a waste of tax payers money, the money that is spent on these studies is insignificant compared to the waste of money that would be if we didn't have these surveys/studies to properly allocate federal funding to programs and services to the canadian public. It is to be noted also for volountary surveys, they must have an INFORMED refusal. If they don't have a chance to explain the study they will call back until they can explain a brief paragraph (usually a couple sentences) explaining the study. After you are informed, then you can politely decline the voluntary study. For the voluntary studies it is usually an option that when completing if a question you are uncomfortable with or don't want to answer such as an income question, you can ask to skip the question or use a range they can provide. Statistics canada is a federal agency and if you do have any concerns feel free to respectively communicate them with any interviewer that contacts you and they can try their best to accommodate to the situation. They are not telemarketers! IF they call at a bad time, early morning, late at night or if you have small children make this known to them and tell them to add this to their permanent notes for future reference as they may be required to call at variable hours but can try to accommodate to your schedule within reason.
