I have received three calls from this number. Two calls on June 12th, at 2:33PM and 3:31PM Eastern, and one call this morning at 11:12AM Eastern. I don't answer such calls, and they left no message.

they lied to you - they are required by the DNC laws to stop caling when told to.

DNC ? Third Party Callers on behalf of Charities

However, if a third-party telemarketer is calling on behalf of a charity, a consumer may ask not to receive any more calls from, or on behalf of, that specific charity. If a third-party telemarketer calls again on behalf of that charity, the telemarketer may be subject to a fine of up to $16,000 .

NEVER DONATE TO A 3RD PARTY CALLER - they keep most of the money they collect.   If you want to donate - donate directly to the charity itself.

if you read the rules for the DNC list - charities are exempt.
Unless they are a 3rd party calling on behalf of the charity.

So this current call is supposedly on behalf of American Lung Association, so they cannot call back for that same charity.  They can call for different charities.  So you have to do this for every charity they call on behalf of.

Make sure you note the name of each person you tell to put you on their DO NOT CALL list, with date and time.  You will need this information when you file a complaint.

Its best to check with Charity itself and verify they have 3rd party making calls on their behalf before committing to a donation. As well as tell them about any issues like harrassing phone calls or abusive language.
Also tell the charity to stop using 3rd parties to do this for them.

3RD PARTIES KEEP most of the donations they get - only a very small portion actually goes to the charity itself.

This is MDS Communications.  I called the number back, and got a recording explaining that it's a company that does fundraising for many charities, that when people get on the Do-Not-Call list, that is only for commercial calls, and that some people still want to get calls from some charities.  They very nicely say that if you want them to purge your number from ALL their lists, please just leave that number, and they'll do that.  I was actually impressed - I thought the person on the recording was very respectful in his explanation.  I left our phone number, and expect not to receive calls from this number.  We would rather just donate to charities that we already know and love :-).

This number calls several times a day; everyday. :(

If you answer the phone, there is no one there and the computer hangs up; almost as if it's checking to see if the phone number is valid; it?s very annoying to say the least. Also, and I'm not sure if this is related, but I've also been getting a lot of calls that show up "Out of Area" on my caller ID; again, as with the above number, if you answer there is no one there. These two numbers have been calling for weeks and I'm really on my last nerve with these people; talk about harassment! >:(

call from 800 674-3305-called them back and left a msg that they are to delete my # from their list company wide, they say it could take a few weeks to do this but I made it clear that they are not to call this number again, ever. It seems they are calling for many charities and are exempt from the do not call list. Why is that, if it is a charity then people donate and do not need to be called, it's voluntary. If I get anymore calls from them I will NEVER give to another charity. I don't donate so I can be harrassed. All you charity groups out there be advised that many more people will do the same thing and you will nevr get funding.

Who should I contact when I get harassing calls?

Local phone companies have varying policies on whether to call the phone company or the police first. Some recommend that you first call the phone company's business office and explain the problem. A representative will connect you with the "annoyance desk." Other phone companies may require you to file a formal complaint with local law enforcement before they will deal with the matter. To find out what your phone company's policy is, contact the business office and ask for assistance.

For serious threats, if life or property are threatened, or if calls are obscene, you should call the police and file a report. Provide as much information to law enforcement as you can. Indicate the gender of the caller and describe the caller's voice. Note the time and date of the call(s). What did the caller say? How old did he/she sound? Did the caller seem intoxicated? Did he/she have an accent or speech impediment? Was there any background noise? Was a phone number/name displayed on the Caller ID device?

What can my local phone company do if I am receiving harassing calls?

If the calls are frequent or particularly threatening, the phone company can set up a "Trap" on your phone line. The Trap allows the phone company to determine the telephone number from which the harassing calls originate. You must keep a log noting the time and date the harassing calls are received. Traps are usually set up for no more than two weeks. The phone company does not charge a fee for Traps.

A phone company service called Call Trace may also be able to help track down harassing calls. Immediately after receiving a harassing call, you enter the code *57 on your phone and the call is automatically traced (1157 on rotary phones). Call Trace is easier than using a Trap since the customer does not have to keep a phone log. But Call Trace technology works only within the local service area. (Look in the "Customer Guide" section of the phone book or the phone company's web site for a description of your local service area.)

Call Trace must be set up in advance by the individual receiving harassing calls, and it requires a fee for use. However, in situations where the phone company would ordinarily use a Trap, you might not be charged if the phone company suggests that Call Trace be used as an alternative. Be sure to ask.

The information collected from Call Trace or from a Trap is turned over to law enforcement personnel, not the customer. Law enforcement officers try to stop the harassing calls by either warning or arresting the harasser. With both Call Trace and a Trap, your phone conversations are not listened to or recorded by the phone company.

I've rec'd 3 calls this week from 3 different #s, all claiming that they are representing the American Lung Asso., that they are calling for Shirley Nelson (not my name) and that they only call contributors. (I've never contributed and am not likely to now!) I have told them each time that I'm on the Nat'l Do Not Call list and to remove my number. When I threatened to call the Atty Gen. Office, they hung up. The numbers they have called from are .

Calls repeatedly in an abusive pattern. We logged eight(8) calls in one-hour. Claims to be a fund raising company. Fund raising may be except from the National Do-Not-Call list, but not from abusive calling practices protected by many State and Federal laws. File a complaint to your appropriate agency.
