Received a call from this number. When I answer with my business name, the call is disconnected.  We get calls like this daily.  What a waste of time.  Caller ID just says Service

Cease and desist letters only work against 3rd party collection agencies. The original creditor can call you as many times as they choose as long as it's within reasonable hours. Sometimes, HSBC/Orchard Bank, now owned by Capital One, sometimes uses HCO Financial Group to collect debts. They, too, are unprofessional and will follow you to the gates of hell to collect without remorse. They can be sued successfully, however, for their harassment. My advice is to retain a real attorney. They are to be found in abundance on the web. This company has been sued successfully for  $150,000,000 in the past 5 years.

If it is Household Bank, it may be them contacting people because Capital One is taking them over ... ugh.

I agree, many people have to take jobs they don't even want or like, but there is no reason for the rude and intimidating behavior so many debt collectors exhibit.

Another dirt bag.  This one is fancy, they have a automated calling system, but still a dirt bag.  They do have a legal right to call but not  to the point of harrassment.  Call only for a legal debt in a LEGAL way.  You might be able to get a form to send to them, usually free on the internet to send to them that is supposed to stop them from calling you at least so much.  But always, always, if you send anything to them, send certified mail requesting a signature, if not this dirt bag like all the rest will lie and say they never received your mail.  No use reporting them to the FTC as they do not care and will not take any action or very little and the dirt bags know this.  If you can prove the harrassment, you might file a law suit.   A law suit is about the only way you can stop this dirt bag.

I recently acquired a new phone number, and I don't know who had this number before me, but the people behind this phone number are straight-up harrassers. They call once every 2-3 hours. If I could paste a screenshot here of the number of times they call per day, I would.

I don't know about now, but years ago we had an account with Fingerhut, and if we were late, they called all the time and were very rude and pushy. My husband had a heart attack and they called on the day he came home from the hospital and insisted on talking to him (no Caller ID then) when I explained why not and how they were calling all the time and nothing we could do right now she started screaming "then PAY YOUR BILLS!"  My mother bought a vacuum cleaner from them (that fell apart before she finished paying the $12 a month) and was on SS and could only make a payment on the 3rd and they called and harrassed her. She used to try and talk to them and end up crying. I know this has nothing to do with this number now, but I don't get calls from Fingerhut  now so can't leave comments about them LOL. maybe they aren't allowed to do that stuff now, but  they were the worst company I ever knew about, overall. Since we're on the topic of harrassing people for money.

Called this morning at 8:15 am, woke me up... I don't usuallyanswer if I don't know who it is, but my son lives in another country and uses a  prepaid card, and it shows a long number (varies) that starts with "1"  for some reason this number has the 1 with it showing(1800....) says unknown name. I said "hello" someone, sounded like a young girl said "hello" softly, then nothing. I could hear sounds in the back like an office. I didn't say anything else- she didn't, I finally hung up. I don't, and never have had a Household Bank credit card, I don't have any credit cards and live on low income (SS) and cant get any if I wanted them. I have had companies call me looking for someone else, once looking for someone who, I think, lives down the street from me. They must get phone numbers for the street. do they think if people don't pay (or can't) calling them over and over, or who they think are friends and relatives, will help?  Oh well, I've been saying I want to get up earlier, anyway, so they did me a favor in a way. LOL

I think most people do not mind a debt collector trying to collect a LEGAL debt in a LEGAL way.  But all the harassment is not right and all the dirty little tricks they pull is wrong.  Probably more might pay but few are going to pay anything after being treated like these dirt  bags treat people   If I won a 300 million lottery I would not pay anyone of them but would hire a dozen lawyers and place some badly needed law suits againist  these dirt bags as the FTC allows them to do whatever they want.

If they got the credit card for your son, and your signature is not on the contract, you have NO obligation to pay - this was fraudulent!  I would talk to a consumer lawyer.

I agree - there ARE legitimate debt collectors who observe to the letter (and spirit) of the FDCPA.  I used to work at a credit union, and their collections department goes above and beyond to help the members.  HOWEVER - you have to recognize that there are way too many debt collectors who willfully disregard the rules and regulations of the FDCPA.

Most of the people here are posting about calls for either the wrong person, a debt which has already been settled or even a bogus debt.  Most people DO want to pay their debts, and violating the terms of the FDCPA is not the way to get them to pay when they're having a rough time because of layoffs, disability, medical bills, etc.  In fact, violating the terms of the FDCPA is a good way for a collections agency to end up paying the debtor (and yes, lawyers will take these cases and win for their clients who have been illegally harassed).

Yes, there are deadbeats, but just because a person keeps getting these calls does not make them a deadbeat.  The debt collector has to prove that they owe the debt they are calling about.

If people legitimately owe a debt, yes, they should pay.  However, many of these people don't even owe to debt collectors and they're still getting calls!  So how the h*ll are they slackers?  Lots of people do pay their bills, so take your self-righteous BS elsewhere!

hating on people who accept debt collection as a job is naive... people need an income and especially in poor economic times, accepting a completely legal job collecting debt from people have foolishly built up an unmanageable amount is nothing worth wasting your hate on.  The person on the phone is just an average Joe who goes home and has a beer while watching his or her favorite sitcom, they aren't the reason you owe money and they're not the reason you're getting calls, they're just trying to earn enough to cover rent and put food on the table.  I am not a debt collector but a friend of mine is and I think it's got to be a rough job being hated on by everyone when all you're trying to do is earn a living.

wow, this place is crazy with people calling each other out.  I do agree that this is the only company that if your late , calls about ten times a day and everyday of the week.  It makes me not want to pay because of how rude they are.  They call and it goes to voice mail and they turn around and call two more times within  minutes of each other.  That is horrible debt collecting and a way to handle a business where customer service should be a top priority.  The calls have annoyed me to point of not making a payment so I can hang up on them ten times a day.
Oh well what do you do.
