Actually, they would. I received a robo call this morning and I did indeed have an open batch. I called them and they took care of it.

Thanks for the info Sam!! They called again today with their robo message saying we had an open batch.  We, too, have a merchant account but like you said they wouldnt do a cold robo call this way!

Followup:  I called the number back and it turns out to be a processing company that my bank uses.  Without giving them a merchant account number I asked them to look us up by the business name.  They did, correctly identified the number of terminals we have, and said that we have no open batches.  Further, they said that they do not use robotic calls to deliver such information.  It seems someone is spoofing the phone number in the caller ID.

This same message came in to my phone.  I happen to have a merchant account but called my bank first.  They reported no open batches.  A Google trace shows that this number traces to "Community Trust Bank" with which we have no business relationship at all.

automated call saying they are with merchant services calling to talk about an open batch in your credit card machine. press 1 to speak to an operator. then it repeats the message in spanish. very suspect!
