Called at work and left cryptic message then went on to threaten me in the message.

UNLESS YOU AUTHORIZED THEM TO CALL YOUR NEIGHBORS OR FAMILY MEMBERS (IE. PROVIDED THE NUMBERS ON A LOAN APPLICATION), THEY CAN NOT DO THAT AND YOU MAY HAVE AN ACTION FOR DEFAMATION (PUBLIC DISCLOSURE OF PUBLIC FACTS TO HARRASS, EMBARRASS AND SHAME).  THEY USUALLY REPRESENT A CREDITOR TRYING TO COLLECT A DEBT.  I HAVE AN ARRANGEMENT WITH THIS COMPANY IN REGARDS TO CREDIT ONE WHO FLAT OUT TOLD ME THAT EITHER I COMPLY WITH THERE WISHES OR ELSE, THEN TURNED THIS OVER TO THE COMPANY THAT CALLS ME.  I WROTE THIS COMPANY A LETTER AND TOLD THEM THAT I HAD BEEN ATTEMPTING TO CLEAR THIS MATTER UP AND THEY WERE APPOLOTGETIC AND WORKED WITH ME.  THE DEAL WE SET UP?  THE VERY SAME DEAL THAT I TRIED TO SET UP WITH THE CREDIT CARD COMPANY THEMSELVES.  THE CREDIT CARD COMPANY'S REWARD?  THEY GOT TO PUT A BLACK MARK ON MY CREDIT HISTORY STATING THAT I DENIED THE CREDIT AND REFUSED TO PAY.

it is a common pratice for collectors to call family and neighbors.  it is a way to shame the debtor.  probably not illegal.

Got a call from 410 968 7954 with a call back number of 800 787-0523, this is Lawson I need a call back right away ext 6917

Got a call from 866 692-0223 with a call back number of 800 787-0523, this is Allied International Credit Services.  This is also HSBC.  very threatening and rude...you don't have to take this.

Caller left a message that they were Allied International Credit and this was an attempt to collect a debt.

Called leaving message for me to return the call as soon as possible to "help take care of me" and that this was a "time sensitive matter"
No complany information left on message no on caller id.

Called repeatedly from this number. Looking for another named person who may have had this cell phone over 5 years ago. In spite of their being told this was a corporate cell phone, and no one there with this number, they continue to call back. Last party I talked to told me to calm down but would not assure me the he would not call again

Just called and left a message saying: "This is ___ calling from the pre-legal litigation department, you're file# is ___. Please call me back, failure to call back will result in having to notify the client to proceed with legal action."

Um, this is very illegal. You cannot threaten people with legal action. Definitely saved this message, plan to record it when I get home.

I just called tham and spoke to a "Wes" who was helpful and told me that he would remove my cell phone # from their list, but he was trying to trick me into answering questions about the person that they were looking for.

Hopefully I will be removed from their list!!

Yes, the same thing happened to me in NY for the last few months. They keep using my last name with some phony first name and ssn. Trying to get information from me. And, they had attitudes, so next time I give it right back. But, how do I stop this?

The numbers they are using are 800-787-0523 (ext 7239) and 800-706-8982.

We received a call on 10/24/07 similar to the other messages posted. Woman a Mrs. Thompson (?) (sp) left a message with my son, giving our neighbor's name, and asking him to give a message to the neighbor about a case along with the phone number 1-800-787-0523 Ext 7239. This is not only an invasion of privacy for our neighbors, but a very highly unethical business practice and very well be illegal.  I called the next morning and asked who they were.
They would not give any information as to their company name, their business, or why they felt it necessary and proper to call our home and leave messages with children.  I told them I was reporting them to the police as a predatory business potentially endangering the health and well-being of my child.  I called several times trying to get information.  They had the ATTITUDE with a big "A" and tried to turn it around on me saying "I" had an attitude.  Excuse me?  Who made a call to a neighbor of the person they were trying to reach, leave a message with a child, expecting them to wander the neighborhood to give this message?  I have contacted the BBB and they are looking into the situation as well.  I felt this needed to be reported somewhere.  The caller id showed 1-813-793-7602  TAMPAEST, FL but the number left for a return call was 1-800-787-0523.

samething happened to me the lady called herself MRS steward and gave me an attitude.

I think supposedly based out og Atlanta, GA (from my caller id) but there is no information on them online.

The caller left a message asking for someone (not me) and that I need to return the call at this phone number to discuss "an urgent credit matter" and that it needs to get taken care of "within the next 24 hours."

When I inquired how she got my home phone number and asked her to take my number off their database, the woman, "nicky" gave me a big attitude.
