Got a text from the number saying here is your authorization code and if you did not request call this number. I will never call a text or email message supposedly coming from my bank. I will ALWAYS call the number on the back of my Debit or Credit card.

This just happened to me too. I had no problem logging into my account (as the email had told me it was locked due to several unsuccessful logon tries). I went to the alert section, and there was no alert! Forwarded the email to the fraud dept. just as you did! Jeez these jerks!!

My banks don't send emails.

This number is legit.  Is customer service.  I called it recently because could not log it to banks website and hadn't gotten any statements recently........They cancelled my Credit Cards for lack of use for a year.  Gave me no warning.   I had one credit card since 1986.   No respect.  Is the thanks I get for bailing them out.

Prank Call
I also received a call from this number last month,
October 2013.  This appears to be a call from Bank
of America, but I don't have an account with them.
This is likely a fraudulent or spam phone call,
using this phone number (800-933-6262) as
a false caller ID.

I was given this number through Bank of America online support. I thought it was fishy that I was asked for my full SSN so I googled it and I found this site. I thought it was odd that online support would give me a fraudulent  number so I did some more research and actually found the number listed on the BOFA website.

https://www.bankofamerica.com/contactus/contactus.go?topicId=olb_tech_support

It's listed as their Online Banking Support # so I don't think it's fraudulent.

I just wanted to share that I also received the e-mail telling me to call this number because of "my account being locked due to too many sign-in attempts". The email contained my name and the last 4 digits of my credit card number, it appeared very legit. I pulled out my credit card, and called the number in the back of the card, which is not 800 933 6262. They indeed confirmed that the email message I received was a phishing attempt.

I also found out that the 800 933 6262 number is listed on the BofA website for technical support (https://www.bankofamerica.com/contactus/contactus.go?topicId=olb_tech_support). Just out of curiosity, I called the number from my cell phone (which is the number registered on my bank of america account), and it asked me for my full 9 digit SSN. Then I used a public phone, and it only asked me for the last 4 digits of the SSN. This is very strange, it's almost as if they could intercept the call and know whether the caller received the phishing message, therefore asking him/her the full SSN.

Lesson is: be veeery careful, don't give away your SSN unless you have a very high degree of confidence that you're giving it to the right person

Just got the same call. Said they were b of a. I hung up because I knew it was fake. A business NEVER calls like that and asks for your personal info. I looked up the phone number on google to see where the number came from and this came up instantly. Why can't people just do what's right?!

Event Reminder
I came to the party late, but two points:

1.  As of December 2012, the telephone number 800-933-6262 was a legitimate Bank of America tollfree number.  I found it by going directly to the main BA website (URL bankofamerica.com in browser address window) and searching this number:  I found many references to this number as "electronic banking service center at 1.800.933.6262" and also as the number to call at BA to report online fraud attempts.

2. From my own experience with banking websites, I have actually experienced this situation, being locked out because someone tried to use my userid several times on a specific online bank.  Here is how this could happen:  You have a bank account with your userid.  Someone else anywhere in the USA has the same userid for his/her accounts with another bank.  Later he/she opens an account at the same online bank at which you already have an account, and attempts to use the userid you have already claimed for that online bank.  He/She has to choose another userid.  But because he/she is used to using his/her first userid (same as your userid) for all his/her other accounts, he/she frequently forgets and uses that same userid when attempting to log onto the online bank he has in common with you.  He/She gets an error message when he/she enters his own password.  Then he/she remembers and enters his/her correct password and get into his/her correct account.  But your security receives a ding!  This could easily happen if the common userid is based on a first initial and common last name and maybe one digit following.  Of course, if by accident the other party's first userid and password were the same as yours, then he/she would by accident get into your account by mistake, unless the bank's security recognized that his/her computer had a different computer ID and then asked that user the security questions you had set up previously.  The probabililty of having the same security answers by coincidence is essentially zero.  I suspect all financial institutions check computer ID.  Whenever I log onto a bank account with a new computer, or a friend's computer, I have to answer security questions.

It's scary to think the email is being sent again. Luckily I googled the number first and came across this site. I forwarded the email to abuse@bankofamerica.com as suggested on the actual BoA site. Email address was contact@ealerts-banksofamerica.com - note the bankSofamerica.com. Requested that BoA send a warning email to all their customers.

I called the legit Bank of America phone number on my statement and this number is not for resetting passwords.  The reason I got scammed is because I used a bookmark to access Bank of America.  Evidently to get the latest security you have to type the website in.  Bookmarks can get corrupted.  I had to call my credit company too.  We also got email from the scammers after clicking off the first time we were frozen.

This number appeared in an email I "allegedly" received from Royal Bank of Canada.  The email tells you that your account is "locked" for too many attempts to enter with a wrong password. The instructions then say to go into your account and check your "Alerts" to confirm that the email is legit.

I guess the scammers were too stunned to figure out that if the account is locked, then you can;t get in to it to read teh alerts.  At least the email wasn't written in broken English

I am getting this here in Canada for Royal Bank. You should NEVER click on a link in an email from a bank, or Paypal. I always hover over a link to see where it will actually go. I know it's spam because this is going to my work email address.

I was logging into my account when I got a screen that said my Bank of America account was locked before I even got to the password screen.  It said I needed a lock out code & to click and it would be emailed to me.  When I didn't get the email, I called this number which was listed.  I knew it was a scam as soon as it asked for my social security number.

Continued: cops' families are buying homes cheap after they're illegally foreclosed upon.  Ask the homeowner who has had every possible thing go wrong, including the submission of timely payments, only to be returned to their bank, for no good reason.   Even strange accidents befall a lone homeowner.  Repeal the Patriot Act.  Although it may be too late already to wrestle such evil technology from those who love to abuse power.  Was hoping Gould figure it out by now.

I've been trying to warn people.  The number is intercepted with technology on market since 2005-06, which also hijacks puter.  Banks and cops were working together to take peoples money, homes.  They'll vandaluze your accounts just line your home.  They'll even false arrest you so you have no way to pay your bills.  From the looks of things, somethings going down cause another bank is having same trouble.Patriot Act allows them to do this...say u might be a terrorist, need to watch your money, see whereupon its going.  It's going in their pocket.  Research how many cops or their
