Someone asking for my son who is a minor I asked who it was first they said it was the polic ethen changed story to a friend, we do not know anyone with this number.

801-618-2034 keeps calling but never leaves msg.  Called once last Fri, once Mon, twice yesterday and twice today!  Anyone have an idea who this is?

call recvd left msg stating it was a service verification call & would call back later. I have no idea who they are & I have not requested any service from anyone. Call showed up as coming from Salt Lake Cty, UT

I'm also in Maryland and received the same "service verification" call, though I didn't check the number it came from. I answered as my answer machine came on, and in the background heard a male voice asking if it was the (my name) residence, then the female recording came on saying, "Hello. This is a service verification call. We will call you back later." Disturbing. I am already on the Do Not Call list.

Just got a call from them. They left a message saying it was a service verification and they would call back. The caller ID said "Service Verification." Normally I get 3 or 4 calls a day from numbers (I'm assuming debt collectors) looking for someone I've never heard of. This is the first call I've received from this number. I'm in Maryland.

I just received the same call saying they will call back to verify later.

So, I've received missed calls on my cell phone from 801-618-2034 once a day for the past couple days with no message left. After reading the other postings, I can see other folks had recently subscribed with their local newspaper prior to receiving these calls. About 2 weeks ago, I signed up for the Sunday-only edition of the Manchester Union Leader in New Hampshire after moving here. There was a woman signing up new subscriptions at a local hardware store, and I actually paid by personal check for 13 weeks. The interesting part is I was told I should receive my first delivery the next weekend. Two Sundays have passed, but no paper yet. The check has been cashed, and now I am a bit concerned. BEWARE

I've gotten a message about service verification on my machine today. I'm also in Ohio. But I don't have a newspaper subscription, so I don't know how they got my information.

However... I did apply for a charge card at a local retail store a week or so ago. Anybody else apply for credit recently? Might be associated with that. Smells like a scam, though. If they call back, I'm telling them so, withholding all information, and filing a police report.

This company has called us daily for about 2 weeks after we got a weekend subscription to our local newspaper in Ohio. They had our name, address, subscription info, etc. When my husband answered they asked for bank account information (to verify). Luckily I had already looked them up on the internet and saw the different complaints. He asked them why he read they were scammers on the internet & they hung up. Not a good sign. Thankfully we've never given them any financial information!

I got a few calls from 801-618-2034 recently - no messages.
So I just called the number back: got recorded 'Customer Service' answer, gives you an option to input your tel.num to be removed from their calling list.
I tried it - recording says # will be removed within 48 hours. Not much downside to trying this (they already have our number's, right?) other than them now knowing my number is valid....which they probably can already detect.

I received a call from this number (caller id Salt Lake City UT) and my voice mail recorded the end of a message but I couldn't tell who it was from.  I have recently subscribed to the Houston Chron so I'm guessing this scammer knows that and is trying to get my cc info. I've already paid for my subscription.

They said they were calling about a recent subscription I made with our local Houston newspaper.  She asked me about making a payment and they accepted all major credit cards.  They must have gotten my information from them.  I told her it had all been paid online.  Sounded like a scam!!

I got a call from this number and they called to verify my subscription to the houston chronicle. She then asked for me for my credit card number. When i told her i already paid for my subscription, she hung up.

several calls from the number in the past week.  never leaves a message, when I called the number back it asked for me to enter my cell number to remove it from their calling list.  I didn't do that because I wasn't sure who it was.

Got a call from 8016182034 wanting me to update my subscription to the e-edition of the Minneapolis newspaper.  I agreed and they said they would send me an email with a password.  I never got an email and they still have not debited my account (it's been 2 days).  Makes me nervous.  Could be legit (I'm hoping!) because they had DETAILED, recent subscription information (I had just downgraded and theyw ere trying to get me to come back), I hadn't paid my bill yet, info about the Minneapolis online paper that was, I think, correct.  But I'm still nervous.

The lady I talked to sounded older, like it was a PT telemarketing gig for her.  Not particularly comfortable, professional or polished on the phone - which also makes me think it was legit.  If it was a scammer I would think they would have had better phone skills.  I called my bank, and the only thing I can do at this point is keep an eye on my account and dispute any unknown transactions that come through

Two call from this number, 23 & 24 Dec 09. Caller failed to leave a message.  Beware!

Whoever owns this telephone number (1 801-618-2034), is either persistent or a scammer. It keeps calling my cell phone and to date, I have yet to pick up since I have no clue on who it is. It never leaves any messages either when it calls.
Based on these threads/reports, it looks like it's close to being a scam and it's doing it all over. Beware.

Just received a call from this 801.618.2034 and have had several calls from this number over the past two weeks.  They do not leave a message nor is there anyone there after a short recording.  BEWARE!!!

Called (from Utah) asking about my Minneapolis newspaper subscription. The local paper here uses our local area code to call. SCAM!!!

Just got a call which went to voice mail. Automated message stated calling for service verification. I did just sign up for the Houston Chronicle last week...if it smells like a rose...

I've gotten calls from this number, but it can't be because of a renewed subscription, as I have never subscribed to any paper in the last 12 years. Gotta be a scam of some sort, as my number is also on the DNC list.

They called at 5:30 PM, when I checked my caller ID, I hung up as she was starting her spiel. Wanted

info. on my telephone carrier. She got zilch

Got a call from this #, no msg.  I believe that it is a company to verify a subscription to a newspaper and that someone didn't just fill out the form and send it in w/your name on it...

DO NOT BLAME YOUR LOCAL NEWSPAPER!

I got the call today and the caller ID said Verification F...  Didn't leave a message, of course. Must be solicitors.  My number is new and unlisted.

I have gotten 4 calls over the past 2 days, I just resubscribed to the Valley Times.I am going to call the times and complain

Got a message on my machine today, same as you've all gotten, about a service verification.

However, I don't take a newspaper subscription. I'm also nowhere near Houston or Minneapolis. My guess is it's a scam, and they're trying to fish for information to fill in the gaps in the information they already have of mine. They can go Eff themselves. IF they call again, I'm reporting it to the police.
