The only way to get off the list is to say take me off the list remove me from the list and so on along the lines of the call list! They can't get fined for calling back if you say not to call!

I called again and listened further to their message. It centered on charity. So I would classify this one as

Lady identified herself as Charlie from Special Olympics Maine.  I don't donate via phone calls so I hung up mid-sentence.  I had recieved a call from someone before saying they represent this group but that was also an out-of-state number.  I sent an email to the Public Relations person at Special Olympics in Maine asking if the call was actually from them.  She said she would check with the president of the outfit.  Never got a response from him.  A great outfit that does great work but their public relations needs a little work.

There are a lot of scams out there pretending to be charity's.

Always call the charity FIRST!  If you wish to donate - do so directly with the charity and not the 3rd party telemarketers they have hired.  

Those 3rd parties keep 85%-90% of the donations they receive.  

Although Charities are exempt from the DNC rules - 3rd parties are required to put you on their do not call lists when requested.  If they call back for Special Olympics - they can be fined.  They can call for other charities and you have to tell them for each new charity

However, if a third-party telemarketer is calling on behalf of a charity, a consumer may ask not to receive any more calls from, or on behalf of, that specific charity. If a third-party telemarketer calls again on behalf of that charity, the telemarketer may be subject to a fine of up to $16,000 .

I'm currently under assault from Medallion-802-681-4759 and Special Olympics Vermont (also Medallion) 802-681-4757 (caller ID: SOVT) all seeking donations for Special Olympics Maine.  We receive calls several times a day for a few weeks; then get a few weeks off before the calls start coming again.  I stopped donating because I figured after receiving my money, they spent it all on more calls and mailings begging me for more, and their dismal rating on chartiynavigator.com

Particularly annoyed because these calls usually come from TX but this is a VT area code so I answered. Wanting a donation for Special Olympics. As I tell them time and again, if Special Olympics can afford to pay them, they don't need my help.

I got a call and called them back. Voice recording says, "... Donor Services Division.." but I think it is a collection agency, most likely NCO Financial. They are notorious and persistent and call from many places in the country and also Montreal. Before you answer do a quick on-line search.

Got a call at 5:25pm from these strangers. I have no idea what they wanted. I did not answer the phone.
