Got my first call from this number this morning a few minutes after 9 am.  Didn't answer it.  I don't owe anyone any amount.  Thank you so much for the ABC News link.

PORTFOLIO RECOVERY VULTURES ARE EVERYWHERE!  However, the worst part of their scam is that they claim a "collection" amount against your credit with all the credit reporting agencies.  They managed to tank my FICO from 810 to 660 due to a phantom debt of "$9,923," supposedly from U.S. Bank, a bank with whom I have never done any business, nor did any of my former banks turn into U.S. Banks.  I have instructed them to mail me their proof of debt and they get snarky and tell me "we'll turn you over to our attorneys for further collection," but on their frequent invoice, "at this time, no attorney within the Litigation Department has personally reviewed the particular circumstances of your account."  Get ready, you lowlife scumbags, I just came into a buttload of money and I'll spend it getting to the Attorney General of California, Kamala Harris, urging her to bring up the matter before Congress, banning all bottom feeder collection agencies from these practices.  However, since you're making a living in a twisted and usurious way, the real problem is the Three Turds:  EQUIFAX, EXPERIAN and TRANSUNION, who are not headquartered in Mumbai and can't be bothered to check facts, know U.S. laws or give a rats underpants about ruined credits left as a result of their criminal stupidity.  Congress needs to break their monopoly once and for all, especially since they are no longer U.S. Corporations, yet remain free to break our laws with impunity.
