That's an easy one. It's because they're a bunch of criminals who don't give a fig about your wish never to get cold called, and laugh because you think some government DNC list will stop them. Best recourse - don't answer, block it if you can, report it to the authorities if you think it will make a difference, and log call activity here to help others avoid scammers.

Just reporting a call from this number after checking my messages. Left a message about lowering a credit card rate.

Received a call a short while ago and from CID I knew it was a bogus call.  Since I'm on the Do Not Call list, why do these types of calls keep coming from all over the country to my number??

The DNCL is a bogus list for Telemarketers and scammers.  Before putting my number on that list I received about 4 calls a day.  After putting my number on that list, within 60 days I was up to 9 calls a day and increasing every week.  I had to have my number changed and unpublished....

I too received a call from that number the recording identified itself as my credit card company.  So I stayed on the line to tell them that my credit card company never calls about any business they send all by mail.  And no one came on the line.  So I called back the number and this man answered with a Indian accent, I asked who he was and he hummed and could not seem to answer.  So I asked what he wanted, he said he was calling on behalf of my credit card company. I asked what company was that and he started into this pitch. So I asked him again what credit card..He said Visa. So I then lit into him.  I told him if he worked for my credit card company he would know what credit cards I dealt with.  And told him to stop calling, remove me from his calling list and stated that I was reporting this to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.  He hung up immediately.  So I will wait and see if this will cure the problem.  I did report it to the CAFC.

I received a call from this number but did not answer. The caller left no message. I read many posting on this site a see many people complain about the government's "Do not call list".

Since I signed up, calls from legitimate companies I've had no previous dealings with stopped. Only unwanted calls I get are from scammers. Lets face it scammers are not going to abide by the DNCL.

Lets give the program a break. If you don't recognize the phone number, don't answer. If its important, they will leave you a message.

The number is calling from 1-818-000-0818. Google it, found it's a US California number. My number's already enrolled the National Do Not Call List, don't know how this people got my number. It's a recorded message saying ithis is final notice of credit card rates and balances are too high, blah blah, blah... Anyway, reported this number to Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre: 1-888-654-9426

Called here today, left a message that they had made several attempts to contact us (wrong! - actually only one 3 days ago - with no message) and unless I pressed 1 immediately I would lose my chance to lower my credit card rate.

Another one of the spoofed numbers used by the "card services' scammers in their efforts to rip us off. Google my name to learn how to stop their annoying calls, while also having some fun!

also an MB resident-Winnipeg actually. I provided this list in another post, there are probably more numbers and eventually I too will get a call from another. Vonage is a nice option, it keeps a record of all my calls going back 3 years and I just have to enter a number and it will inform when and how many times I got a call from the number.

407-856-4219; 819-803-1812; 818-000-0818; 289-796-0030; 604-276-8931; 226-909-1180; 604-298-6451; 604-269-2551; 604-435-2043; 412-307-3889; 581-222-0013; 646-490-2387; 707-723-4478; 604-422-0881; 819-809-0169

ALL advising about credit card rate blah blah blah......

Nice rant BUT clueless. Since its inception and my signing up with the CRTC DNCR, we now ONLY get calls from these types of scammers. Maybe educate yourself about this a bit better since everyone I've offered to add their numbers to, has also benefited from the CRTC legislation.

Yes of course calls will still come through and for most of these I'm providing here, they all arrive with the same theme ie: credit card services and "last chance buddy so jump on it NOW!!!!"

Here you are and note this: I use Vonage, it goes back 3 years for the phone logs, I see the common theme in all of them. 407-856-4219; 819-803-1812; 818-000-0818; 289-796-0030; 604-276-8931; 226-909-1180; 604-298-6451; 604-269-2551; 604-435-2043; 412-307-3889; 581-222-0013; 646-490-2387; 707-723-4478; 604-422-0881; 819-809-0169

So with just these and probably many more in the future, what do you propose that the government do about this? A lot of them don't call me anymore and according to others, they are relentless so I'd believe that they (the scammers) have to change numbers often enough anyway.

Only an idiot would fall for any such scams to begin with and like I advised above/below, if they are calling YOU, they can be asked fro YOUR credentials like address the card is registered to, full name etc. They can't answer that because they don't have access to any such info and as well, can't access any phone info either.

Having a phone (Panasonic cordless) that offers an option to block numbers doesn't help if scam artists keep changing their number. AGAIN, for every call on the list I have provided, always the same theme and most every with internet access, now does what I do. I immediately search the number on Google and for the most part, I'm always coming back to 800notes to find the same conversations over and over.

Give up your rant about the government, they're not your babysitter and they ARE quite efficient at dealing with the problems associated with scammers who call. Perhaps they should employ 50,000 people so they can nail these people seconds after they call?

easiest way to flush out these a-holes, is to ask the caller "what's my name OR the name on the card?" They would know that, wouldn't they? LOL Also, ask them what address they have for you on file-you know, the one that most companies will advise "address submitted for this order must be the same as for the address where the card's statement is sent to...."

No doubt these idiots would invoke the "we can't disclose private info" and I'd advise in return, "hey, it's me, you said you know MEEEEE, I'm giving your permission to give MEEEE it!"

Funny how a lot of the fake callers use numbers that appear to originate from Quebec (most I've ever received) and it doesn't surprise me that that crooked province would have such scammers working the lines. Probably robocalls originating from their prisons but yeah, even cons gotta work I guess.

Had calls from them before about credit card rates, seems to me they are the ones that try and scare people, telling them their balances are too high, listen closely, "MAY be too high" anyway this last time, just as I picked up, all I heard was a recorded voice "good bye" ...Ok...Good bye and good riddance

The card service scammers take advantage of the elderly, and those that do not have the funds to have internet access and caller id to enable them to keep up with these scummy lowlife scammers. These are the people that need to be advised of the druggie card service scammers before they are cheated. Anyone who tries to make their money for drugs by cheating  the people that can least afford to suffer a financial loss are disgusting, and the very lowest class of society. If we warn our families, neighbors and friends of these creatures, not only will less people be taken advantage of, but the annoying, repetitive calls to all of us will stop.

It's the drug-addicted "card services" scammers calling to try to fool us into giving them our credit card number so they can rip us off. They pretend to be associated with our credit card companies in order to get that number. Beware of these lowlifes, and warn others before they are cheated!
