A man called and read from a prepared script. When I asked particulars about what percentage of each dollar actually goes to the so-called "troopers' death fund", he read from another prepared script which didn't answer my question. I asked again. The answer: 12%. That is TERRIBLE. When I told him just that, he replied, "Well, maybe you can donate next time."

I don't think so! This is a scam preying upon vulnerable people.

As gruff as he may sound,  what he said about the dnc is exactly the truth....It gets a little redundant when people post over and over about being on the DNC when most don't even know what it covers and how it works and have never gone to the site to read about it.   And no I am not the caller either and no I don't want something for nothing.   I am just saying that what he said is true,  and what I am posting here is also true.  like it or not.

If the call is legit,  it is nonprofit and exempt under the dnc.   If it is a scam,  they will call whether on the dnc or not.

You sound like the person that has been calling!!!!! Are you?? Nobody is whining we know it does no good for folks like you because you are trying to get something for nothing!!!!

Stop whining about being on the DNC registry. It's essentially worthless. It is a list that only legitimate telemarketers use. The a$$holes calling you couldn't care less about the DNC list. It means nothing to them, because everything else they're doing is outside of the law, as well.

Fundraising scam run off of a cell phone in Asheville, NC. Claims to be affiliated with many reputable companies, hospitals and veterans organizations.

Never give donations to a stranger who calls you. Might be a scammer. Might be a legit independent fund raiser who keeps 99% for themselves and sends 1% to the charity. Best to donate directly to the charity so they will get 100% of your donation.

Party called my home but no message left. So I called on my cell and a generic prompted voice said that they are a fund raising organization and to press 1 for a rep to call you.

Just got call, didn't leave a message...For all of those on the do not call list (as I am). I recently found out that 401 non profits and political calls do not need to abide by the do not call list. So much for that working out.

Called at 8:03am in the morning - left no message.  Jerk!!!  And yes, I'm on the do-not-call registry.  I read where this is regarding the State Trooper Fund - I will NEVER give anymore money to anyone over the phone for any organization -period.  My wife did it once to a Fireman's fund, and now we get these type calls all the time.  These people are NOT troopers or fireman - they are professional solicitors of money.  If they are legitimate (and I do stress "IF THEY ARE"), they will sell your name to other lists for additional money - so you are assured of many, many more solicitations in the future.  If they are not legitimate, you could be scammed out of lots of money.  PLEASE - do not give to these organizations over the phone.  If you want to donate money - do so through anything but the phone.  Look them up online and validate they are legitimate.  Then give your  money - but letting them talk you into giving money over the phone is a disaster you will pay for over and over and over again.  Last - I'm an ex-law enforcement agent.  I am all for supporting the families of those officers who gave their life for us - but not through phone solicitations.  I doubt any of the money given to these buzzards ever goes to the actual families.
