Debt Collector
My mother received a call from this number asking for me. She called me and gave me the info. I called the number and the "company" was midway mediation services. No one answered so left a basic voicemail. Got a call back this morning from a completely different number (supposedly the same company though) from a guy named Brandon Callahan telling me I had a bank of America account I committed fraud on and threatened prison time unless I paid almost 4000 to them. I have never had an account with bank of America. I told him to send me paperwork and he requested I get it via email. I said nope certified mail! He got huffy and said OK. I called the courts with the "docket number" he gave me and the lady laughed and said it's definitely a scam call the police and make a report.

Recieved a voice mail from a man requesting my husband.  He had his name the last four of his ssn#.  He stated that his name was Michael Johnson and that he was calling to inform him that an officer would be serving papers to him between 12 and 4 tomorrow.  If he was going to be unavailable to call back to 844-291-4531 and a stand down order would be issued.  If he didn't call and was not available there would be added charges to the fact that they sent someone to him and he wasn't there.  Now here is the kicker.  They are supposedly delivering to an address that he hasn't lived at in over 23 years.  Obviously they got all of this from public information and it is a scam.  Don't call back and don't give out information.

He stated that this number belonged to the Attorneys Network.

I also received calls from these scam artists claiming to be lawyers for Western Sky (which is currently being sued in a class action suit by the the State of Georgia).  When I informed them that I needed something in writing and that they could email me, they lied saying that they had sent it several times.  I never recieved any email.  I also asked them for their website.  They gave me some bogus website http://www.rcan.com/, with credible names such as King & Spalding (whom I used to work for) but, is not in any way associated with this firm.  I was glad to report this to their Technology Practice at KS Law.  I then asked for the domain that they emailed from.  They lied and said that it came from @cameronjamesandassociates.com (The DNS lookup proved the domain doesn' exist.  Nothing out there solidifies that they are legit.  Please, don't be waivered or bothered by their calls.  I contacted my real creditor who verified that they are scam artists.

You may safely ignore the illegal threats, but not the phone calls themselves. Take careful notes of everything. These goons are laying serious FDCPA violations in your lap. If you can find their office, you can sue for relief on their dime.

} owed $2200. but they would settle for $1020

Ho-hum, another 'half price sale' on a junk debt someone paid maybe a hundred and change to pursue, and that's generously assuming it's real and can be verified.

Again, review the material you've been urged to see. You'll find that you have more options than to "ignore them or send money". Might as well drop the latter; one should never, ever reward a lawbreaker with payment.

Simply tell them to mail you (NOT e-mail or fax.) the required notice of validation. Tell them that you know they're required to do so within 5 business days after their first contact with you. When the caller starts blustering & stuttering excuses and threats...case closed. Your caller is nothing more than a desperate bogus or fraudulent junk/zombie debt collector.
Google the FDCPA. Know your rights. Once you've done this you will never fear a debt collection call again. Legitimate debt collection outfits adhere to federal regulations. The callers from this number obviously do not. They are scum. Treat them as such.
Be Safe. Be Aware.

If a debt collector says "You will be arrested if you do not pay the debt now....", they are 100% a scam.
By federal law, no collector is allowed to make such a claim.

Debt Collector
I received a phone call on Feb 26th 2014 @ 8:10 at night stating I would be "served" within 48-72 hours that a courier would be delivering documentation for me to appear in court. I was also threatened with being incarcerated and that a judge in my county was reviewing this case.Several years ago I had a similar call they also threatened me with incarceration. They instructed me to Western Union any amount of money that I could. I was smart enough to research and find that this was definitely a scam.  I contaced the Attorney General in regards to that matter. I am not sure wether to take this recent matter seriously or not? The call was from Cameron James & Assoc. I spoke to a person that said he was "Dan" and transfered me to the director Brandon Callahan. He wont quit calling me. I am not sure what to do? I need to know if I should jsut ignore them or send money?

Descriptions in this thread are of extortion dressed as debt collection. Consumer debts in America, including payday loans, are a *CIVIL* matter, not criminal! Debt collectors do not typically send their claims straight to a judge, and they don't take your ransom money to broker quick deals with so-called "process servers". Lawful debt collection is a process, not an ambush, and you are due a chance at each stage to raise a dispute. The agents' horrid threats are empty and their conduct is illegal.

} Why do they do this? I'm very upset.

It's supposed to get you upset. They want you frightened and shamed into paying some debt the thug can't prove and maybe never existed.

This is such crap. Has any one ever been served papers? I called our court house n checked to see if there was anything being served to me? They had nothing listed with my name and the numbers this so called law firm gave me aren't right according to the court house staff I spoke to. This is a scam. I have never received prior notification by mail and no phone calls until this threatening one. Do not give out any information.  Block the number and ignore it

Got calls too. Same thing as Angie's experience. Very upsetting. I am un- nerved by these calls.  They were very rude and abrupt to me, very intimidating.  Threatening to come to my work or home. Why do they do this? I'm very upset.

Got one of these calls today, threatening to serve some sort of legal document on me at home or my place of employment which, by the way, is a law firm. Lawyers do not have people calling and threatening to serve documents on you.  This is such a scam.  How do they manage to get away with this?

From the three messages posted so far, a couple of thoughts come to mind:

Real, legitimate law firms don't initiate contact by telephone: They'll send a letter ? because they want hard documentation of precisely what they communicated and how it was worded.

Shady law firms (and con artists *pretending* to be law firms) will use the phone instead of a letter precisely because they *don't * want to leave any hard evidence of what they said to you. Because it could be used against them later in court.

I trust you can see what's happening now? I'd suggest blocking this number or ignoring their calls.
