I am being harrassed at work by FMS from the following number ~ 800-580-7611. They have been informed not to contact me at work but refuse to stop.

Boy oh Boy. Sounds like it is the same people trying to get money from me.
I got a letter from FMS telling me they were collecting for the Department of Education on a student lone I took out 40 some years ago.
I called the U S Depsrtment of Education and they tell me the have no recored of me in the computer. This was the Worshton DC office so I sure am going to put a stop paynent on my bankaccount. They tolled me in December that  I had to make a payment right now is the only resion I made the payment.

I got a call from this number today of course it was a recording for me to hold. I hung up & called back right away. When I called back I got a recirding that the number was disconnected or no longer in service. Wow this happened in a 30 second time period.

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS OF SHAUMBURG,IL  is a pretty nice name for bully telemarketers. But what they don't realize they are dealing with a telemarketer of 6 yrs. In fact, violations include not identifying yourself when the voice mail comes on as a debt collector, and here's the kicker you was calling for a friend of a friend. My question to them was how could you associate my number with this person that does and never lived here? I asked to be removed from their calling list and person on the other end hung up the phone quickly. do not be afraid to talk to these cowards and the punks that hire them to do the dirty work.

I have been receiving calls on my cell phone nearly every day for over a month from 847-330-5520, 847-413-0326, and 866-296-7952.  Although I never answer calls from any number I am unfamiliar with, I assume these three numbers are related due to their daily occurrence and the lack of messages left on my voice mail.

And now I am glad I avoided answering these calls after finding this website and reading everyone?s frustration from trying to deal with this supposed collection agency.

Like many of you, I don?t have any debts.  In my case, the lack of debt to my name is because I am a full-time college student who carries only one emergency credit card and is supported financially by family; therefore, I have to assume these phone calls are due to the company having the wrong number or because they are looking for the previous user of my current cell number.

If it is this FMS collection agency calling, then I kind of suspect they are looking for the previous user of my cell number because, for about six months after I activated my cell phone a few years ago, I periodically received calls for the same guy --  a friend wanting to go out for beer, his work, and his cable company calling to inform him that he was late in his payments ? therefore, it wouldn?t surprise me if the recent unknown calls I have been receiving are because of this same guy from a few years ago.

Either way it is annoying and I am going to try to find a way to block these phone calls without ever speaking to the person or machine on the other end.

And to everyone else, FMS may be a legitimate collection agency (after all, anyone with genuine debt probably won?t seek out a website such as this to complain), but then again, it might be a scam, so be careful (?continue to be careful).

Received a call from a local number and answered. (Usually they come from 8xx numbers so I was very skeptical.  Asked that I verify social and mailing address.  I told them "not a chance".  Caller then said we can no longer talk.  I said fine and we both hung up.  n't let these people fool you into giving info over the telephone.  Who nows what their intentions are.

Can anyone post here to say what FMS has done to them if they did not return their calls?  I have no idea why they are calling as I have no unresolved debts or even late payments.  I have never spoken to them.  I also do not have caller ID but the few times I have picked up the phone it says "FMS".  What if you just ignore them?  What has happened to other people who have ignored them?  Obviously some here are saying they are threatening to do things, but I just wonder if they actually DO anything.  Again, I don't know why they are calling me. I want to ignore this but do not know if that is a smart thing to do.  Should I talk to them?

Calling my home for weeks.  Answered a few times and recording said 'fms'. Googled to find this. I have not been late on any bill and am not overdue on any debt that I know of.  The only thing I can think of is it may be related to my former domestic partner, who may or may not have paid his bills after we split up in 1998.  I thought and cards on which my name was added had long ago been resolved.  This is just one more hassle I have to deal with that has nothing to do with me.  Have not spoken to them and from what I am seeing here, I should not.  I may send them a letter asking for proof of debt.  Thanks for suggestion.  I do not have vMail on that phone line (used for internet only), so they cannot leave message.

I've been receiving calls for two weeks looking for a previous owner of my home.  I receive the calls everyday including weekends.  I'm elderly - hearing and visual impaired.  Getting to the phone can be difficult.  I've asked them when I can talk to a person to remove my phone number - it still hasn't been done.  I need help on what to do.  I can't afford a lawyer and am very frustrated.

This number has called several times for my husband, leaving a message that this is a debt collector. In the past month, my husband and I have had our credit scores run and have excellent credit with no outstanding debt.  Since I know this as a fact, I realize these "debt collectors" are out to defraud unknowing citizens.  Watch the statute of limitations of past debt and make sure to get all information in writing.

Got a call to my parents house from 866-694-4372, called them back and it was FMS.  

They verified my identity by last name and last 4 of social, then proceded to tell me that I owed 1,500.  They claimed to have sent letters to an address that I lived at 3 years ago.  When I asked for them to send me a letter to my current address the operator became beligerant and begun yelling at me.  I threatened to hang up, and he said that hanging up would be considered a refusal to pay.  I told him that I wasn't refusing to pay, but I wouldn't put up with him yelling at me.  I asked to speak with a supervisor.  The supervisor was nice, up until I requested a mailed letter explaining the debt.  Once again, she began telling me that they will not mail me a letter and started pressuring me to pay the $1,500.  I told her that I needed something in writing before I would pay anything.  She said that they would send a letter if I could post-date a check. She said that I could always cancel the check if I did not receive the letter.

This went back and forth for a while, with me telling her that my legal right was to receive a letter.  She eventually said that she could email or fax something, and I said no, I want it mailed.  She persisted until I told her that I don't have an email or fax.  These guys are awful, and don't seem to care a bit about the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

They have been calling every other day and never leave a message on my voicemail. Since I don't know who they are or who they want, I've blocked the number since they don't have the decency to even leave a message. I've got better things to do with my time.

I've been getting these calls for about a week.  It's always automated and asks for me by name.  When I go through the prompts verifying its me I always get hung up on.  I have not tried to call them back.  When I did the reverse look-up on the number that calls me (847-413-0326) it shows as a personal residence in Schaumburg, IL.  So I searched online for the company name that comes up on my caller ID and found this website.  This is ridiculous.  I've only had this phone number for about 2 months.

I HAVE BEEN GETTING THESE CALLS FOR QUITE AWHILE NOW. I NEVER ANSWER WHEN I SEE IT ON THE CALLER ID. TODAY I DECIDED TO LOOK THEM UP ON THE WEB AND I SEE ALL OF THESE COMPLAINTS. I DO NOT OWE ANYONE AND I FILED BK LAST YEAR SO NOONE SHOULD BE CALLING. MAYBE I WILL ANSWER THE NEXT ONE BUT I WILL NOT VERIFY MY SOCIAL DIGITS. I WILL NOT RETURN THE LONG DISTANCE CALL EITHER. THEY WILL NEED TO SEND ME SOMETHING IN THE MAIL. I AM GLAD I READ THE OTHER COMPLAINTS. THEY WERE REAL HELPFUL.

They are listed with the BBB.  I checked them out on the BBB website.  Seems to be a legit company.

They have been harassing me over a debt that apparently my deceased daughter had, insisting that I had to "help them to help me" by giving them all sorts of information, which I refused to do.

They actually called and asked for her by name, and when I said she was deceased, the guy replied that he already knew. Were they hoping to trick me into something?

Zombie debt people are bad enough, but these are heartless pigs.

So I just got a call from these people.  The lady on the line asked if I was home and I said "speaking".  Well then she asked me to tell her my last 4 of my SSN to validate who I was.  I said I would not because I didn't know who she was from a hill of beans.  She then said that she'd tell me the last 4 if I just validated with a simple 'yes' or 'no' and I said I still would not because I didn't know who she was or where she was from.  She said she couldn't tell me until I validated.

She said she "received a file with my name and SSN" and had to discuss something with me.  I said I wouldn't know why she'd have a file on me and once again asked for what company she was with and what her intentions were.  She then said that if I wouldn't cooperate then the conversation was over and hung up on me.

I know that I don't owe ANY outstanding debts that would be in collections at all (I've paid everything on time and in full for over 8 years but back in 2000 I was in a car accident where this might stem from).

Needless to say these people are shams and just trying to buy old, expired debt (that even federal regulations violate) and trying to re-age it and scare people into paying unvalid claims.

SLIME, GRIFTERS, SCAMMERS, CHEATERS, etc!  I can't say enough about how I hope people are not falling for their schemes.

You can also send them a cease and desist via fax!  It is also legal as long as you keep the fax transmission receipt.  These knuckleheads are trying to come after me for a time barred debt (2002).  Texas statute of limitations is 4 years after the date of last activity of the original creditor.  Don't let the colleciton agencies tell you otherwise.

OF COURSE WITH IDENTITY THIEF SO HIGH TO TOLD HER I WILL NOT CONFIRM ANY OTHER INFORMATION. SHE OF COURSE SAID THEN WE CAN NOT PROVIDE YOU WITH ANY OTHER DETAILS EITHER I TOLD HER THEN STOP CALLING ME.

This lady told me that I owed a debt and if I didn't respond to the call there would be action taken to collect the debt owed. I do not owe any debt. I have received several calls from this lady. I am getting tired of her calling. I have answered the calls and told her I didn't owe anything then she says there will be action taken if I don't respond. I am tired of these calls.I only get calls. No letters have been sent.

I just received a call from this company asking for me by my old (10 yrs ago) last name. We just moved in and this number is not connected to my name. They said it was a financial matter and they needed to be sure it was me. I said that is not my last name and before I could explain, she said "sorry wrong number" and hung up.  Any debt they are trying to collect has to be more than 10 years old or not mine.

Got a call this morning from 847.330.5520 asking for me and when I identified myself, the lady on the other end said, "I'm sorry, I'll have to call you back" and then hung up. I called THEM back to be informed that it was a collection agency and that they had been trying to get in touch with me since January - by mail. Trouble is, I hadn't received anything from them. When I told the woman I hadn't received anything from them and that I wanted something in writing from them, she said, "We have been sending you letters which you have refused to respond to." I asked her if she was calling me a liar at which point she responded with, "If I wanted to call you a liar, I would call you a liar." I told her that she needed to send me something in writing - by certified mail - so that they and I would have proof that I had recieved the mail and she told me that they use the mail to correspond with all their clients and don't feel it is necessary to send me any more mail on this "debt" that I supposedly owe. She then continued to get real nasty with me to the point where I hung up on her. I know enough about collection agencies that if I request that they corresond only in writing with me, they are required by law to do so. I will be mailing a letter off to their company requesting that they do so. I WILL be sending it certified proving that I DO know how to use certified mail to prove mail has been recieved by the party it needs to go to!

I have been getting calls from this number for the past six months for someone that I have never heard of.  It is always an automated system, never a real person, but you can tell it is a collection related call by what the message says (I work in collections, I know what terminology they use).   I have had this phone # for three years, but I suppose if I owed someone money and didn't want to deal with it, I would "accidently" flip a couple of numbers around in my phone number too.
