I was called by someone from India claiming to be from microsoft. They took control of my cursor and showed me what looked like terrible computer problems. Then I got the sales talk - $177 to fix these problems. He insisted I give him my credit card info right away. When I refused he became very abusive and told me I wasn't smart enough to use a computer and I could just say goodbye to my computer. After I got off the phone my computer was crazy for about an hour , closing every 60 seconds. I finally was able to do a restore, and everything went back to normal. I did a scan with Norton and everything looked good, but I'm very worried about using this computer in the future.

Hi! I recieved a call from Sandy at "Urgent Tech Help" - affiliated with Microsoft. He claimed my computer was riddled with viruses and that I could lose it at any time; that McAfee would not be able to solve it. I insisted on getting a call-back number so I could verify his legitimacy because it seemed pretty clearly a scam, and he gave me the number 847-531-9241. I told him it sounded like a scam and said it would be awfully disappointing if I lost my whole computer by not "fixing" it right away!

I got a call today too! ANDY He talked extremely fast throwing the microsoft word in there, but when I questioned him he said his company name was Urgent Tech Help and they get reports from Microsoft that apparently come from my PC that I have viruses and errors.  WHen I started to go to the places on my pc that he told me to see the errors he then wanted my CLSID # so he can go in and fix everything for me>..... THE RED FLAG WENT UP........ I was not going to give him access to my PC.  I questioned him some more got a phone number to verify the company 847-531-9241.  I hung up and called and someone answered "hello".  I asked who he was and he said Steve (indian dude) but not the company name.  You can here all the people working in the background, ect.  TOTAL SCAM.... ANDY then continued to call my house (3 times) within 10 minutes for me to continue.  I hung up on him told him to NOT CALL ME BACK.... NOT INTERESTED.

Friday I got a call from, a guy from India (of course), saying he was from Microsoft and my computer had thousands of viruses.  I would have hung up immediately, except for the fact that three weeks prior to that someone had made $400 worth of charges on my my bank card plus people were telling me I was sending them bogus emails and I probably had a virus.  So when this guy called, I listened.  He showed me all the viruses I had, how all my banking and credit card info is going out to all the world (which made sense because of the charges), showed me I only had hardly any space left on my computer, etc.  It was called "Fix Your Computer" or something like that.  He said he would fix it and give me two years (or lifetime) of free tech support and a bunch of stuff.  So I did it.  I was appalled that my info was going out to the world (as indeed it must have somehow).  So that cost me $177!  But then when I got to paying it went up to $199.99 due to the tax and then I had trouble opening my bank account, so he told me to do a wire transfer to India ($40)!  Total:  $240!!!!!
I looked at my bank account online later and found I made the wire transfer to India.  It was the same company as listed above -- Maven, Inc.

They did fix my computer (it seems).  I have all my space back.  They did install a program to get into my computer that says AmmyyAdminv2.13 and maybe it's called Windows Defender.  They also installed CCleaner and Defraggler and Notepad programs.  They are all sitting on my desktop.  They said I had to run the CCleaner every day.  And the others every 15 days.

Then they tried to sell me a backup software program for only $599!!!  At that point I refused.  They also said Avast was no good (my free one), it doesn't work, and I needed to buy McAffee or Norton or E-Scam or E-Scan.

So...I am now out $240, but my computer seems to be fixed!  Plus they have this program on my computer, but they can't get into it unless I allow it.  I think.  I hope.

I did watch them clean up my computer and it took them two hours.  I really think they did do that.  And after it was done, I saw I had tons of free space again.  And my computer was faster.  I feel like they did do the job...

I also got no information on the company because they said it would appear on my credit card (which I tried first) and the company flashed on the screen, but then when they did the wire transfer it only showed up as the Indian's name (and Maven)!!!!!

Should I get rid of those programs?   They are sitting on my desktop.   Should I try to find the FBI?  What should I do?  (I already know I am a sucker...)  Thanks for any help you can give me.

Received this phone call from "John" who claimed to be from Microsoft Tech Support (Tech 35) saying that my computer has a virus (which might be true) and that they have been sending me warning reports that I did not respond to (told him I never saw warnings)... and can I get to my computer right away so that it won't crash.  Sounded urgent... but fishy.  I asked for the phone number to call him back because I was in the middle of something and he gave me (847)531-9241.  I'm thinking, since when does Microsoft provide this level of service?  and How could they know -- talk about BIG brother!  I'm glad there are forums for people like me to check this out to find out it is a big SCAM!  Thank you.  Also, Snopes.com is another good place to check out things that just don't seem quite right...

Got a call yesterday from Sam stating he was from Microsoft and computer had a virus which had been reported to Microsoft Technical Dept and he had to call to help repair it.  Sounded like call was from  a "phone room" in India--got phone number and called back and name of company was "Fix Your PC" or something similar.   From reading above posts this apparently has been going on for months and they are still in business.   He identified himself as a technical expert from Microsoft 35 Technical Department.

Received a call from a man named "Adam" stating he was from Microsoft and that our computer had a virus. I thought it might be a scam so I asked for a call back number and was given 847-531-9241. When I called back to check if he was truly from Microsoft I found out he was not. He stated the company's name was something like Fix It PC. I asked why he was calling saying that he was  a Microsoft employee and he stated that no one from his company would ever do that. I pressed further to get information about his so called company, mentioning the Better Business Bureau and he ended up hanging up on me.

I just received a call saying that my computer was infected and they wanted me to go to a web site to clean it because it is getting ready to crash.  I asked for a call back number and this was the number that I was given.  He said his name was Adam.  I told him that I didn't have time right now and asked for the call back number.  I also asked if there was a ticket number and he said no.  There was a lot of talking going on in the background.  It sounded echoey like in an open room with cement floors.  I saw online that this was a scam.  They initially asked for mr. Or mrs. And our last time.  Needless to say that I am concerned.

Just got a call from "Brad from Microsoft" saying that my computer was broadcasting all my files.  He gave me the www.ammyy.com address which was the first red flag that he wasn't actually from Microsoft.  He gave me the schpiel about how my computer could crash at any time and how he would walk me through fixing it.  I asked for a callback number to check that this is legit, and he gave this 847-531-9241 number.  A quick googling on the number and it became clear this was a scam.  Sorry Brad.

Gary Jones (an interesting name for a man who was clearly Indian) called saying he was from a technical support company certified by Microsoft (gave me a web address ifixedyourpc.com). He was very persistent, even after I told him that I was an IT professional and was running the number 1 rated anti-virus software available. He told me that I had the win32 trojan and that I was broadcasting my personal data all over the internet and my computer could crash at any time. When I asked him how long the trojan had been in the wild he said 'four weeks'. He gave the number 1 847 531 9241 as the Technical Support number. I have two computers - I asked him to tell me what IP address was supposedly broadcasting the 'errors' - he couldn't tell me. Total scam (I did have fun taunting him though!).

I'm from Montreal, Canada, received a call from "microsoft 35 technical dept..." really weird call, she told me the same stuff as the other people, told me to open my computer (which already was) and kept telling me it was from microsoft, to which I replied: that's weird cause I'm not using Microsoft products or windows on my computer... she asked what I was using but hanged up when I replied it was not of her business...

Got a call from Vic from Online Repair World. he told me that they had received an error message from my Microsoft Office. he said that it had to be upgraded or nothing on my computer would work and i would lose all of my files and pictures, etc. it would only cost $200 because I was a customer of their security system. I asked them to call me back the next day after I talked to my husband. It was a very threatening, strong armed attempt for me to pay immediately. i asked for his phone # and he gave me 847-531-9241. I told him if anything was lost on my computer that I would turn him in and have him investigated.
