I got a call from 850-270-1161 this morning (3 September 2009). It was a call from Florida to Canada, claiming to "help" with "Credit Card Consolidation". I expect they were looking for Credit Card numbers to use illegally.

Received call from this number, went to voice mail no message left, checked on 411.com... Tallahasee Florida number. No details on the number, but the area code is one of the new ones being used by telemarkets and scams.

These b*****ds have been calling me for several years now (as far back as 2007).  I don't answer any calls from unknown numbers.

Don't bother putting them on a blocking list.  They have the ability to change their number.  Believe me... I've tried to block them.  Nothing works except not answering the phone.

They are scammers.

If you are lucky like I was, you would hear a message saying something like: "This is your credit card service. We had tried numerous attempt to contact you. This is your final notice....for the opportunity to lower your credit card interest...press one to contact your account service ..press two to lower your interest rate." One pressed one and was lucky to get a live person. I told her was NOT any of their member and I do not have any account with them -- I am in Canada and they are in Florida. She ignored what I told her then said" press two to lower your credit card interest rate (sounded like that from a speech).  The implication for any caller to press "two" can be argued by them that you have ACCEPTED legally to their offer. So do not press "two".
I told her I do not have any credit debt and I would report them because I had registered in both Canada and US for no unsolicited call (Do-Not-Call List).  She quickly hang up on me -- now that is the dead ringer for a scammer.
Report them to the authorities. Google and you will find a federal site allowing you to call them and leave message of the incidents of unsolicited calls. As of Sept 2nd 2009, these "Robo-call" -- called generated randomly but computers have a penalty of $16,000 per call.  Let shut these scammers down.

I get these kind of call once to twice every week.  They now want to target both US and Canadians.

How their lower rate offer works is to get you to pay a huge "APPLICATION FEE" for their services.  There has been warning posted in Better Business Bureau since 2008.

I had a call so I picked up and pressed 1.  They asked if I had debt over 3000 and I said no I want my named removed from your list.  He went on saying your not interested in lowering your interest and I said no I have no problem with credit cards.  I want my name removed this is the 3rd or 4th time you guys need to remove me or I will take more action.  He then precceded to tell me to shut up.  I got f-u in there in response not sure if he got as I heard the click shortly after.

It started with "we have tried to contact you on numerous occassions about your credit card, if you do not reply we will have to take further action........" I pressed 1, a man came on the phone. First question "do You have a credit card with a balance of over $3000.00.
When I asked who he was & why he was calling, I got " calling on behalf of Visa, Mastercard, Amex & Discover to get you a lower rate of interest"
My reply "if I wanted my rated lowered I would call my own bank"
His reply "What a lower interest rate does't appeal to you"
Who are you & why are you calling & do you realize that I'm taping this conversation.........I GOT HUNG UP ON

I hit 9 about 10 times and it took me to some ignorant bi***, she claimed to know I had a credit card to which I was paying more than 10% intrest which first off is b***s***, and second, she is calling my WORK PHONE.... which was not in existance when I took out my credit card, AND she couldn't tell me my credit card number, what bank it was through, or my name.

Definately a scam.

Reported to RCMP.

Yeah I would watch it. They may even charge you for the calls when you return these numbers. Don't trust any of these calls. And I think putting your name on those list are bogus. I think they just open up a whole new can of (calling people) worms!

Took call.  As above, the option was to lower my interest rate on an account.  Asked whose account it was about, and they hung up.

They only identify themselves as "Account services"

phone rang. I picked up. Waited a long time for a recorded message. Like the individual above I pressed 1 to speak to a person and ask to have my name removed from the list and the call disconnected. Can this be stopped?

This call purports to be about credit card and lowering interest rate. I think it is a scam. I pressed 1 because I wanted to speak to someone to get removed from the list. Pressing one (supposedly to speak to someone) just ends in the call being disconnected.
Constantly getting similar calls but not sure if it is the same company.
