The sweet mormans sold us a 36 month contract that could be cancelled or transferred at anytime.
They installed it it within 30 minutes of my husband signing the contract.  My house was broken into while we were on vacation, the police didn't respond to Vivants call due to so many false alarm calls with Vivant.
Vivant blamed the police.  We moved, they offered to move our service with a brand new 39 month contract.
We still owned our first home so they expected us to keep paying for that service as well as the new service.
We declined and took over the security plan that was already in place at our new home. We continued to pay Vivant until thirty 36 months were up. I called to cancel, they said it was a 39 month contract. Who has 39 month contracts?  I guess I was lucky so I verbally cancelled the contract then.  My husband went to the bank and revoked his written permission for Vivant to draw payments from our account.  I researched them online and discovered their underhanded business practices. I mailed them a check on the memo line I wrote
" cashing this check acknowledges cancellation of this contract without prejudice on 10-31-12 " . I put this on my August, September, and October payments.  They informed me that because I did not cancel in writing 30 days prior to  11-1-12 the contract will extend for another year. I explained that I no longer have any business contract with them, faxed them copies of the checks and told them not to call ever again. They turned us over to collections. A few weeks ago a VIVANT door to door knocked and started trash talking my present security company.  I told her if she wasn't selling chocolate for the band boosters to never knock again, and I shut the door.

Do not do business with these people.  I jumped through all the hoops - sent them my non-renewal request 6 weeks before the contract ended.  They debited my checking account two more times after the end of the contract.  When I called, they acknowledged having received the letter.  So why the @#%$ did they debit my account for two more months?  And before they would end my expired contract, they wanted to sell me a new system.  These people are shysters from the word go.  Stay as far away as you can !!

If you are looking for a security system -  try Vector Security.  When our alarm panel back-up battery died, they came and replaced it FOR FREE !!

We signed up when it was APEX too. We moved after a year and couldn't get out of the contract without paying the balance. Couldn't move it to out new home because we were renting. Finally cancelled the service and they let me pay off with a discount after more than a year of paying for nothing. I wondered who was calling me twice a day for the past two weeks.

Same for me - I get 2 calls a day, every weekday, for a week or two now. Usually around 11 AM then 4 PM. Never any answer (if I answer) nor do they leave a message.

I have filed a complaint with the FCC.

I get daily calls and most of the time, several times a day , from this phone number 855-364-0842.  They never leave a voice mail message when I don't answer the call. When I do answer the call, who ever it is, never speaks.  This is harrasment and I will file a complaint.  I have even sent text messages telling them to remove my number from what ever list they have and to quit calling my cell phone repeatedly and never say anything.  Its a good thing my cell phone has a record of all the harrassing phone calls!

Horrible!!! Stay far, far away!!! Brand new tech installed system; alarm went off at 0230 in the morning. Alarm went off everyday the first week, used up my "free" false alarm passes now up to $300 each time alarm goes off and VIVINT calls police. Took two weeks for VIVINT to send out a local tech to fix the shoddy install and bad equipment removed all VIVINT sensors and used my hard wire installed when house was built. My bad luck started when I got the new guy on the install team who was part of the roving install teams VIVINT uses to hit areas and move onto the next city/state. Glass break sensors are ridiculous constantly go off causing false alarms, had them replaced and finally just bypassed them on the system. In the most recent experience my younger daughters were home when they accidentally set off the alarm; however, they entered their code immediately, yet VIVINT didn't come over the intercom instead they called my work (weekend) and eldest daughter's cell, who was in the shower, and then called the police, before calling my cell. Had they come over the intercom they would have found that it was an accident and an authorized person had entered their code. I've had numerous calls into VIVINT about the extensive problems since having the system installed April 2012 and I've reached my limit after a total of $550 in county false alarm fees. It's turned out to be a very, very expensive change that I wish I hadn't made. Even when I'm home and I enter my code within 10-15 seconds of the false alarm they come over the intercom and make me identify myself and provide my password...frustrating to say the least. I've resorted to not even activating my alarm because of the problems. At one point my thermostat wasn't working and the customer service rep I was talking to told me that somehow my system seemed to have linked itself to my neighbor's system...huh?? BTW when I told my neighbor she said that's probably what happened to mine because my temp kept changing and it wasn't keeping my settings...go figure.  I wish I could turn back the clock and undo my decision to sign up with VIVINT and I also wish I had checked their BBB rating to find that they had between 1250-1450 complaints.  Recommend you read the reviews and do your own assessment and decide if you want to go with a company with this history.

They did as promised. They called when the alarm went off. What else can they do for you ?

My contract expires in July of this year. I'll renew for 12 month's at a time. They want to renew for 42 more month's. Hell man, I'm 66 years old. I don't need a contract I can't get out of if something should happen to me.

I just extended for 12 month's. I checked with other security providers and they work the same way.

In 12 month's I'll decide at that time if I need to renew again. My property and contents are worth more than $42.00 a month.  It figures out to a $1.38 a day to protect your valuables. Really?

My home was broken into once and the feeling of being so violated is awful.  They took everything of value and some items that had personal and emotional value.  As long as Vivint maintains a reasonable price I'll continue to use their company and enjoy the feeling of security knowing my home is protected.

I'm with CWilson on this one.  I've had Vivint since it was Apex too and had nothing but excellent, professional service from them.  I use this system every time I leave the house too and have forgotten it was on three or four times over the years and they call almost immediately to find out if it's a real alarm or a false one.  The system monitors not only the burglar sensors but also the state of electrical power, fire alarm, and temperature sensors that notify you if the temperature in the house is nearing the freezing point so you can get home and make sure the water pipes don't freeze and burst.  That gives me confidence in not only the system but the company as well.  I'm happy to pay the bill for this kind of peace of mind.  On this particular call there was no message left on the voicemail but I imagine it's about extending the contract since that's what others here mentioned their calls were about.

Listed as "Toll Calls" on caller ID - Hung up when answered - # 855-364-0842  I just read into the other posts and found out it's VIVNT.  We have their system and, honestly, they are so much nicer than ADT!  Those people would have a false alarm go off here, I would fix it then ask a basic question about their sensors and such, however, not one rep had a brain with ADT.  VIVNT has never been rude to me.  It's good to know about getting free of the contract since we may move in a couple of years though.  I never just tell someone to cancel either, I always put it in writing.  It's from being a military/government brat growing up and now as an Army wife.  Always Cover Your A***!

They are horrible! We got into some real financial issues with layoffs, etc and even my mortgage and electric company worked with us, but not Vivint. They even threatened legal action if we were late....I told them I may have to change banks to save fees and if I do I will not be paying them!

We've had this security system for years (since it was Apex) and gladly pay the monthly fee.  We were burgled last year and, because of their fast work and excellent monitoring, the police were here in two minutes.  The back door was open and my jewelry was all over the floor, but nothing was taken.  The contract is cheaper than any other company I researched and the level of service is better. They were actually able to talk to the police through the system and help them locate us.   I found this because the number was on my phone this morning.  Seems as though all of these people are upset because they want to renege on a contract.  They should be happy they have it and USE it.

These people are A-holes.  We sent a letter to cancel our service and they are saying they needed it by Friday, the 15th and received it on Monday, the 18th.  They are actually trying to hold us to another year contract because the mail didn't get to them in time, even though our letter is dated the 12th. And the cancellation is actually for the following month on the 15th.  I have been on hold for over 55 minutes and every time they transfer me to the person I am trying to follow up with I mysteriosly get disconnected.  If you are considering using this company - DON'T!  I feel their practices are unethical and to try to trap people into a contract they don't want is ridiculous.  I have never had this many problems trying to cancel a contract before.  I guess this is why their Better Business Bureau rating is C- with over 1430 complaints, wish I would of known this before I signed up!  Today I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General.  If others are having these issues, I would advise to also file complaints.  THERE IS STRENGTH IN NUMBERS!

Send them written notice return receipt so you have proof. Check your state and local laws. Some states have laws against auto renewal for anything other than on a month to month. Judging by all the complaints against this company your not gonna be able to believe a word they say over the phone. Do some research yourself sit down type out letters and do your homework. Register a complaint with your states Attorney General if they get enough of them you never know they might help you out. It sounds like this company opperates on the edge of the law just to get a little more money out of customers. Good luck.

Horrible company to deal with.....we bought their system and had it for 5 years and are now trying to cancel it, our contract doesn't come up for another month.  They said since they didn't get that in writing within 30 days of our contract coming up (we are 2 days late), they will not cancel our contract and have locked us into another year.  What a way to do business.....If you are thinking about signing up with them, DON'T...they have sneaky ways of never letting you drop them.  Stay as far away from this company as you can get.........

I thought I was the only one having to deal with this from them,  I am so angry with Vivint right now I can't even see straight,  my contract with them expires at the end of this month,  however I was not aware that I was required to send a letter in writing to them telling them that I wanted to cancel my service, but unfortunately for me,  I did not send it in 30 days prior to the cut off date, and now they automatically renewed my account for another year,  I really hope they get the crap sued out of them and have to close up shop,  what a greed underhanded evil deceitful company.  I even asked what would happen if I decided not to pay them anymore,  they say after 120 days they would send it to the credit reporting agencies and it would go against my credit report.   I understand if you signed a contract,  being locked into a deal,  but I never signed an 1 year extension,  how is this even legal?  they weren't even the same company when I signed up.

Yeah but when  you want to change alarm systems and paid your 5 years is it fair that you can't because they don't want to let you out of the contract. that is our hard earned pay that we use to pay theM and when the 5 year contract is up and we want to go to another company that is our right to do so. why shoud we be a prisoner to anyone or anything. TO BE LOCKED INTO AN ADDITONAL 1-2 YEAR CONTRACT.

I use the system every time I leave the house. I have screwed up twice and didn't get to the pad in time to stop it. Ten seconds after I got a call. I had forgotten my password once and it took a minute to find it. Which was to long and the police were on the way. Three minutes and they were there. I have had no complaints. If I call them they give me the info I need and I'm on my way. Over two years now and I'm happy with them.

If you barely use the system why did you have them install it? Are you planning on blaming Vivant when your house is broken into and you failed to set your alarm? Typical BS from people that specialize in BS!

I just got a call from them, but didn't answer. I was one of those suckers who fell for it, too. I was a bit tipsy at the time. That might have something to do with it. I've never used it. I never even registered it with the police department. My five years is up in July.
