Someone hacked my computer and I need help, but was smart enough not to fall for the call I received from this number.  Claimed to be from Microsoft and that my computer had been hacked and loaded with viruses.  "Sam Peterson" with a heavy foreign accent kept saying he was Microsoft certified and the service to clean up my computer would be free.  While he was talking I Googled the phone number and found all the scam reports.  When I told him of my findings he corrected the phone number to 855-593-3164 then changed it to 561-401-0188.  I assume he was the very person that hacked my computer in the first place!  A fast talker, but I didn't buy anything he had to say.

Call was from "Alex Perez" at Microtec Support. Gave this phone number. Started his script about how my computer running Windows needed his help, but we don't have a PC so I knew this was a scam. I reported it to the government's "do not call" website.

Have been receiving calls daily from this number.  Always says "Out of Area".  I picked up today (March 25, 2014) Guy said his name was Calvin Rodriguez and that he was from Microsoft and would help fix my computer.  Told him I was not near my computer and would have to call him back.

I'm an IT consultant for a particular company.  One of our employees just got a call from "Andrew Martin" at Microtec support.  Tried to scam him into installing remote desktop software.  SCAM!

Received a call tonight from "Andrew Martin" with a strong Indian accent (not Native American) I kept him on the phone for over 20 minutes asking questions. He told me the "name the computer was under" and didn't flinch when I told him that person had been dead for over 20 years. Kept saying it was a "check up call for my computer."
SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just got off the phone with "Fred Taylor" whose accent was Asian and then "Jacob Jones" whose accent was also foreign.  I told the latter that this was a fake name and his explanation was that the company gives them pseudo names, which I explained to him means "false" names and that no credible company would give their employees pseudo names.  They told me the same thing as reported above, that my computer downloaded corrupt files and they drove me to a site called, TeamViewer", which is a software that allows remote access to your computer.  I asked if this was going to cost me anything and he said the software is free but, depending on what's wrong with my computer, they would charge to fix it. I asked how much and he said he wouldn't know until he saw what was wrong.  He also said I could take it to Best Buy for the Geek Squad to fix it after he determined what the problem was.  He asked if I was a senior citizen, which would entitle me to his help with no charge.  Apparently, he's unaware that NYC seniors are very savvy.  I told him I wasn't going to download the software because I had no idea who he was, but I knew he wasn't American and his story about the pseudo names was ridiculous.  Usually, I don't even answer my phone when I don't recognize the caller.  However, the caller ID listed it as a "service call" so I picked up.  Now I will block the following numbers: 239-247-5552, 855-593-3163 and 310-982-6689.  They also have an 800 number, which I didn't have a chance to jot down.  If only these losers would use their brain power to do something useful in life.  They are very smart, but morally bankrupt.

Know of two calls for this scam, one to my company and one to a relative.  This is a flat out BS scam and the shills can go suck eggs.

This scam is being done by phone call because people are becoming more aware of fake email hyperlinks and attachments that would normally take you to the scam download website.  Some of these guys are from India with names like "Bill Smith". They often accuse you of having a virus on your computer and then sending it to their company. If you get one of thse calls, tell them, "Great!  It workded!  I am glad I gave you a virus and I hope your system crashes and burns like that of so many of your victims!"  and hang up on the vermin very loudly!.

Otherwise, if anyone on this forum can give out the address of this company, then please post it here.  I am sure that some victims who may live near them can maybe  "pay them a little cordial visit" sort of like the Mafia does  when they need to have a "nice little talk" with someone who has caused them some concern and then this problem will, uhmmmm...maybe go away on its own...real quick.  Just saying.  :)

Shawn Watson called from Microtech Support,  855-593-3163x224.  Gave me the rap about downloading illegal files and I should call Wallmart, Kmart or Target to arrange for a techie to come fix my computer.  Uh huh.  -Not right now... -maybe later.  Told him I'd call him back: No No no need for that.  --If anyone is in need of companionship, they should call Shawn.  I bet he would answer.

Yes, they help themselves to social security numbers and banking information from everyone who's foolish enough to fall for their scam story about being computer technicians.

Great service! received a call from Microtec as my computer was suffering from infections and viruses, and the support helped re-gain control of my computer through remote access! I'm lucky as most technicians suggested purchasing a new laptop. I don't understand how they could be a scam as I would've paid more money on a new laptop and new softwares?

Thank you Microtec!

Same story as Abe. Called my next-door neighbor claiming to be from Microtec, and he was Microsoft certified. Told her that her PC was identified as sending out spam to their company, and that her PC was probably hacked. She - stupidly - allowed him to remote into her PC and ran some supposed diagnostics utility which "confirmed" her infection. She finally wised up when he told her she needed to immediately go to the STORE and purchase a long list of software products including MS Security Essentials (which is FREE). He claimed that the software would cost her about $200, and when she said she wouldn't be able to install all that, he later suggested helpfully that he could install the software for her for the ultra low price of $350. When she said she was going to consult me (her techie neighbor) first, he got very aggressive and combative. ABSOLUTELY a scam. Apparently used supremofree.com to remote control her PC. Also provided phone # 310-982-6689.
