I agree these foreign scam artist will never STOP unless they steps up and do more to protect the hard working american people.I believe the phone companies or phone makers can do more.Take the SMART PHONES for instants it does everything but wipe you how comes they cant come up with something to stop these rip off low life scammers.ALL they want is you to pay for their services or products whether its legal or illegal. With all that TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE they have, time for them to STEP UP and do more to protect the easy prey who happen to be HARD WORKING AMERICANS,mostly elderly.

Just a FYI, on the $4k a minute thing....

Snopes DID NOT verify it:
http://www.snopes.com/fraud/telephone/809.asp

"As mentioned above, the amounts of money involved in these scams has been greatly exaggerated (probably by computer-introduced transcription errors) to the point that readers are now warned they may be charged more than $2,400 per minute if they fall for this scam! Actually, a victim might realistically have been taken for $25 or so, but not thousands of dollars (and in most cases customers could get such charges removed from their bills by contacting their phone service providers). I received a card saying they have been trying to contact me because I have won a $100.00 gift certificate for Wal-Mart or Target.  I immediately searched for the 855 area code and was directed here.  One of the reasons I wanted to check the area code is because of a recent e-mail I received warning about 3 other area codes that are in the Dominican Republic.  They tell you they have information about a member of your family who is gravely ill, or have money for you etc.  anything that would probably entice you to return the call.  If you return the call you will be charged, I believe it was $4,000+ per minute. I don't remember the exact amount.  When you call they try to keep you on the phone because of the charge per minute.  This has been verified by AT&T and Snopes. I know 1 of the area codes is 809.  I don't remember the other 2 and I can't get into my e-mails while I am here to get them. Your local telephone company and long distance company will not help you.  All they will tell you is they are just billing for the out of country phone company.  You are liable because YOU DID CALL!!
