Leaving messages for a person called Sabrina. I have called three or four times to take my number off the calling list. This has been happening for four to five months, I want it to stop!

Nelnet services student loan on be half of the U.S. department of education and I bet you have a student benefit account with them

This number shows up on my fax machine every other day. Nothing ever comes through because it's not originating from a fax machine
Mary 2014-05-28 14:23:54 Unknown
This is certainly a scam number. They have been texting my husband claiming to be Nelnet, and claiming to offer a 6-month loan deferment. We have no Nelnet loans and never have. There's no reason that the real Nelnet would have his cell phone number.

They keep calling for a person who does not live here. We've been getting daily phone calls from them even on weekends as early as 8am. We called and told them the person they're looking for doesn't live here and to please remove our number from the list but nothing changed.

This is NOT a legitimate outfit. I have been out of school for eons, never had student loans. They call my apartment, sometimes asking for some other woman by name, sometimes not. Total scam.

I don't understand why this company is calling the home I share with my husband 2 be. Neither one of us has outstanding school loans as we are both out of school and successful people. I would appreciate the calls ceasing. Telemarketers calling my home is very annoying, especially when they don't respond when I say hello.

These calls are a scam. Government agencies do not ask for this type of information with phone calls. There are government websites where you can receive e-mail alerts for phone and internet scams. Even though they are government websites, they are very informative about these scams. They will remind you to NEVER give out your personal information to an unsolicited caller.

Dear Wrong Number..
800notes is not affiliated with your callers, we are not calling you either. 800notes is a forum for reporting who calls you and any information you may have about the call to share with other forum users. It is highly doubtful that your callers are reading here also.
Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $60.00 or so.

Have never had a student loan in my life....regardless as they state above, all debt collectors have to follow the same rules....file complaints for harassment with the ftc and if it gets bad enough send them a letter to their corporate address to stop calling "cease and desist" letter should do it.....I think they get their numbers also if you have ads on craigslist, etc....but you may need to put in a little time to get them to stop. Do your due diligence as a consumer and do it to protect you and your sanity.
DUH 2014-04-21 21:59:26 Unknown
They are not collectors if you call them you don't have to make a payment they are contracted loan servicers trying to stop your student loans from being assinged to collections! IF it is a wrong number answer or call back they will remove it you could be a reference on an acct or a family member of a student! Excelent Customer service again they are servicers not collectors that is why the fair debt collections act does no apply to them!
Don't Trust It 2014-03-28 16:06:05 Unknown
I once had student loans with Nelnet - they were all paid off and consolidated with a different company and are current. www.nslds.ed.gov is a federal website you can check the status of all your federal student loans & grants. Mine are all consolidated with one company - not Nelnet! The federally operated site shows that I am not behind in one payment so I would not trust whomever is calling. This company apparently has some sort of access to Nelnet's old debts. Sure they may be taking out the agreed upon amount with you but is it really being applied to your "student loans"? To the poster that said she did not have to pay anything, that sounds fishy enough. The government wants their money.

I just found out that Nelnet has a class action suit filed against it. Crap - I erased all those text messages they left for someone else. Now I find out they could be worth 500 bucks each. Same with voicemails. Case filed in Phoenix, some Asian lawyer - your lawyer can find it from that. You have to keep the recordings and texts to prove your case and have no business with them at all - just a wrong number. They're supposed to verify before they start the blizzard of calls. Sign up!
asdgasg 2014-02-12 18:33:26 Unknown
Every single text message is worth 500 bucks. Never erase them. Same with voicemail messages - if it has nothing to do with you or your kids - you can sue them. New case just filed in Phoenix - class action.
damn them 2014-02-12 18:30:45 Unknown
IF you have recordings they've left - SAVE THEM !!!!! They are different violations and if you have no business with Nelnet, they have no sovereign immunity. A class action suit has just been filed in Arizona, jump aboard - remember, save those recordings!!!!

Caller ID = TOLL FREE CALLER. Definitely a debt collector, trying to recover a school loan debt from a grown up son who hasn't been in school in 10 years. This toll free call was mixed in with a set of calls from 402-972-4665 and 303-696-5689, both with Caller ID = NELNET INC. According to Wikipedia Nelnet is a "Nebraska-based lending conglomerate that deals in the administration and repayment of student loans."
The male caller spoke good American English and tried to leave a message on my answering machine, but I picked up the receiver and hung up. He immediately redialed, at least a dozen times, presumably with an automatic dialer. Every time I'd pick up and immediately hang up, then his dialer would immediately redial. Anyway I finally picked up the receiver and left it on the table. Every now and then you could hear the caller ask "Bill? "... "Bill?", my son's name. All he could hear was the roar of a nearby fan, and maybe an occasional snicker from me. Finally he hung up and I left the receiver off hook. I've now blocked all 3 numbers. The phone company will answer "Sorry this phone does not receive calls of this type." Ain't technology grand. :-)

Received a call tonight from this number. Only left a message on my voicemail offering to extend the payment on a student loan. I'm not in college currently and when I was I did not have a student loan. They either have the wrong number or are attempting to scam.
