hello I received one of these calls.  I took out a loan in 2005 and I am positive it was paid, I only have the paperwork they sent me showing it was to come out of my account but nothing else.  When I contacted the company that sent me the original paperwork they could not find me in their system.  Fast forward I did all of this after I had been contacted by a P.I services and was threatened with committing check fraud, told I had a warrant out for my arrest if I did not pay.  I was dumb.  I gave them a partial payment of $100.00 on a prepaid card, but after speaking to an attorney I immediately cancelled that prepaid card.  I think I made things worse by paying the partial payment. I requested that they send me the original documentation from the creditor but what I received was something that was just typed up, not with their address but the address of another check processing company that I cannot even find on the BBB

Dont do anything but file a report with the Attorney General. Frank Bishop is a JOKE! He has no more filed any papers on you than I have. Trust me he has called and made threats to me and nothing has ever happened. The charges they claim are bogus. If you wish look in your area and see if there are any attorneys that offer a free consultation and call them and ask about the bogus charges they are threatening you with. Furthermore, they would have to actually be in your county to file charges and they dont have the money or the correct charges to file against you. I have an attorney that I used for bankruptcy and my uncle is also a attorney and they laugh at this stuff not that it is funny but the lengths con artist go to just make a dollar you would think they would be tired of that life and get a real job. It is only threats and a HUGE SCAM!!! talk junk right back to them. if you question him it will make him angry and nervous.  Also, ask the name of the officer that signed the warrant if they give you one it will be bogus or ask the name of the DA that they supposedly spoke with.  You will never get the email OR the warrant. DONT PAY A DIME to these low lifes. change your number and they will go away. there is nothing they can do. please dont be afraid any longer. they can not put you in jail. no debt collector can. if you have anymore problems post them it is important to get the word out. these outfits also change names every few weeks and get a new magic jack number or VOIP number. LOOSERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, well, well.  It is now the 25th...  Apparently my county court claims processor got lost when trying to deliver my summons for the mystery case.

I checked the judiciary search for all current, past and even future cases for my state...  oh, that's right...  there is NOTHING there in my name.

As stated before...  I turned all the information to my AG and the FTC...

Frank Bishop IV is a JOKE! not to mention a horrible liar. I asked him the name of the DA he spoke with in my county and he couldnt find the paper it was written on. I am getting served tomorrow and I called the DA's office and sheriffs office and they have nothing of the sorts for me. If you ask me he is the real DA and not District Attorney!!!

Thank you Kathleen, appreciate you efforts here.  I got a similar call today also, I do not write checks and I have never taken a pay day loan.  I suspect possibly someone who had my cell number previously.  They could not tell me my name.  Hung up on them.

Mark Russell called me today.  Blocked his number.  Said he was a processor server for my county, proceeded to give a case number, etc.  Then went on to say YOU HAVE BEEN PUT ON NOTICE and if he didn't hear from me...  he will see me on Monday the 23rd between 12 and 5.

Really?

So, I looked up the number he gave and saw this long list of complaints.  What a bunch of BS.  Yeah, well, impersonating any sort of government official is against the law LOSER!

I am contacting the AG today for my state...  and the FTC...  the fight is on.

UPDATE TO MY EARLIER POSTING - I had my attorney call this "Frank Bishop" back at this phony company and ask for his "Bar No."  He also informed Frank that he was violating several sections of the "Fair Debt Collection Act" and that he wanted the paperwork sent to us immediately, along with Frank's Bar Number. Frank said he would supply it to us as soon as I called him back giving Frank permission to talk to my attorney.  I called Frank to give him my permission and Frank then tried to engage me in conversation, but I told him to talk to my attorney - that I was "done with him."  Well, no surprise, he never sent us any paperwork or his Bar number.  He is obviously not an attorney. Meanwhile, I received an email from the Attorney General of my State (in response to the complaint I filed against this company) and they confirmed that this is a "scam."  Apparently, they have received several complaints from other individuals describing the same similar tactics this company uses.  The AG's office said to NOT give them any bank information as they use intimidation and scare tactics to try and scam large amounts of money from people; mainly preying on people who have taken out payday loans in the past.  They strongly advise everyone who has been approached by these people to file a complaint with the Attorney General's office of their state as well as the FTC.  I'm just grateful I saw these postings in time, which prompted me to report them to the AG, and then enabled me to call my bank in time to cancel my bankcard.  I'm hoping by posting the information I learned about these awful people, that others won't fall victim to their vicious scams and despicable ways of swindling so many other individual's hard-earned money.

I recieved a phone call from these people at my parents phone.  He said his name was Frak Bishop IV.  He left a message on my parents answering service they have.  He said he was with the DA and had contacted the shariff's office for a warrent out for my arrest.  Because I had written a bad check accross state lines and for fraud.  It scard me so I called a bail bonds place to see if I really had 2 warrents out.  They got back to me saying I did not.  I called the number he left and it came up with this is the office of L. Benjamin Wright and Associates so I googled them and found this web sight.  I read all of the other comments and they were all about the message that was left for me.  I will be contacting the FTC.   So don't fall for thier scare tactics.

These scumbags are now operating under a new number (855-464-4057), but it is exactly the same scam! The called me on an old $130 payday loan (after first calling my daughter and telling her that they were issuing an arrest warrant for me and she needed to contact me and tell me to call them).  When I called them he said he was calling from a law firm and I was going to be arrested the next day for fraud and writing a bad check across state lines . . . a federal offense and a felony. (He told my daughter he was a detective then told her he was a DA.) He then told me it was because I signed a UCC agreement at the time of the payday loan - that is why he could charge me with these crimes.  His name was Frank Bishop. He said the payday company wanted to take me to court right away but he convinced them and the DA of my city to hold off until he "talked" to me. He said it would be $2,700 in fees if they arrested me! He put me on hold then came back on the line and told me they would settle for $500.  I was scared and believed him so I gave them my debit bank card number for the $500 to be taken out of my account in two payments (to start in a few days). After I hung up though I got a bad feeling so I Googled them on the Internet and saw this website. I then knew I had been taken so I turned them into the Attorney General's office for my State and the FTC, after talking to both places. I also cancelled my bank card before they could deduct any funds.  DO NOT fall for this scam. I hope to sue them for violating the Fair Debt and Collection Act. (I'm a legal assistant.) If anyone is interested. they can be fined up to a $1,000 or more - as they have violated several rules of this Act. If enough people filed a class action suit against them for violating the Fair Debt Act (there are ample grounds), they could be sued for $500,000 in penalties (according to the material I just received in today's mail from my attorney general's office). Let's get even with these nasty cockroaches so that they do not prey on any more people!!

If you ignore their calls and don't pay them a dime, they will stop calling.  It took about a week, but once they realized I was not going to return their calls, they stopped calling.  As I said, I did get scammed out of $100.00, but at least I realized it before they took a bigger payment the next week.  I cancelled my card, and haven't heard from them again.

The caller said that it was concerning my SS number & it was attached to some illegal activity. It sounds like a scam but I want them to stop call my home & work ASAP!

My daughter is young (23), L. Benjamin Wright called my daughter on Friday, March 30, 2012.  They were so ugly and abusive on the phone with her that she paid them over $1000.00.  Over the weekend she began to think about the dates they had given her, and the other information and realized it was a scam.  She finally talked to me (her mother) and her older sister about the situation.  I am afraid she is out that money but much wiser.  They threatened her with arrest, imprisonment and worse.  She has a small child and could just imagine being taken from her home, and her daughter being taken into states custody.  She was terrified....  that's why she paid them!!!

I got a call from these people, yesterday stating that they would come to my place of work and serve me with a civil suit, and that they were talking to me on a federal line. They said i owed them 3,860.00. But then they said that if i paid them 1263 dollars that it would all go away, then they told me that they would do it for 821.17 and it would all go away. I talked to legal aid and they looked them up there is no such name, their address dont match, they answer the phone to make it look good. These same people  called me 6-8 months ago, under a different number and name, under the same address, do not fall for them, do not send them money, they r a scam, wanting to scare u by harrassing u, bullying u, verbal abuse dont listen to them. If they say thier from the federal goverment dont listen to them, because they r not, these people r out just to get yr money. These people cant work a regular job, so they try to get others to give them money, { I repeat, dont give them money}. L. Benjamin and Wright associates r a fake.

These people are scam artist, DO NOT SEND THEM ANY MONEY, DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION. Ask them for an address and the name of the person who is calling, then report them to the Attorney Generals office. They call threatening which if it was a legit company they would know its illegal to tell threaten you with  going to jail. They can not serve you with any papers period,  their is no debtors prison. They some how have information on old accounts that they try to collect on illegally. Do not worry and most improtant do not send them a dime, if it was legal you would get someting in the mail and even then I would question the debt.

I received a call from them yesterday, and they did scare me, so I gave them a prepaid card number, which I am going to cancel immediately after reading these posts.  They did seem real, but I looked up the phone number and it orginates in Boston, MA, but they say they are located in New York.  I know that this debt is either cleared up, or part of a debt consolidation I am doing.  They orginally wanted over $3,000, then they reduced it down to $977 as part of a hardship program they supposedly have. They keep saying they are sending me documentation by email, but I have yet to receive it. Don't fall for it!!!! I'm reporting them to FTC immediately.

JUST CHANGE YOUR NUMBER PEOPLE! This type of response "I am fed up" is what these scammers are hoping for!!! You get fed up You pay them basically to shut them up so you can move on with your life. Dont listen to what they are saying its all noise, they CANNOT ARREST YOU CANNOT SEND YOU TO JAIL NOR GARNISH YOUR CHECKS. Just change your number and LAUGH IT OFF..... dont get fed up.....In fact I had a call the other day I had my son answer it and burp into the phone real loud... I love playing with them. Sometimes I would be at work and they would call I would just hit answer and let it lay there as I type furiously on my keyboard. Its kinda fun actually...

what you do is Ignore the calls to your personal phone and or change your number. Report to your HR department and tell them what is going on and you have no idea who these people are but they are interfering with your productivity. The HR department should then call these people and tell them that they are no longer allowed to call your place of employment. This works, because this is how I handled it. I havent received a call since.

Do not pay them a dime.  I made the mistake of paying them a partial payment because I was scared.  I actually contacted the original debtor and have paperwork showing I paid it in full.  I had to cancel my debit card since they were supposed to take out another payment in a few days.  It is ridiculous that these people are allowed to breath good air.
