I went to this presentation in Dec 2011, sent in the cruise certificate and my $99 and followed all directions, a couple weeks later I get an email stating everything is good and someone will contact me no later than 30 days from cruise departure date...After 30 days to departure I start emailing I want my money for the cruise since they broke the contract......They email back and state oh we are so sorry but the power has been out 5 days from hurricane Issac, (hmmm come on) But here is your options, a inside cabin at a total price of $893.00 or an outside cabin at $1363.00, I have 7 days to pay for this or no refund will be given...When I picked my cruise dates it was cheaper to book direct with carnival than these people wanted new....
What a rip off, everyone be warned..This is a scam, you can not get ahold of anyone, no phone numbers, the website comes back to some company in Canada(hurricane Issacc, what a laugh)

I got one of those postcards from Directbuy offering a 4 day Carnival Cruise here in Richmond, VA. I knew it was a scam. Funniest thing:  They misspelled the word "complimentary," perhaps it was on purpose :)

Hey Folks... Just to let you all know how dumb you are if you send in $99.00
per person for a "Free" Cruise.
These people usually end up deducting their commission from the cruise plus your $99. per person
hence the "discount" ...NO FREE CRUISE. They count on you not following their directions
...thus disqualifying you for not following their directions...and keeping your $99.
DON'T SAY I DIDN"T TELL YOU.
THE majority of the masses...are a***s..  did your MOTHER ever tell you "Nothing is Free in this World"

C'mon folks....wise up!

My situation is different -nI received a phone call from 888-886-3606 - vacations services - the deal was a 7 day cruise on either Carnaval or Royal Caribbean - leaving from New Orleans or Galviston - one was an East Coast trip the other a West coast trip = Included Airfaire, Cruise, etc, etc.  No memberships etc. just pay the taxes per person (250-300).  90 minute presentation.

Any thoughts about a scam?

These people are theives and I have just filed a congressional on their practices of setting on your money for as long as possible to probably accumulate interest.  They have no motivation to let you know that the dates or any other term "violated" would invalidate your request.  This is a scam and hopefully you have done your homework before investing anything in their promises.

I just got my confirmation for a trip next month.  We had been told the the cruise cabins would be a balcony cabin on Carnival.  The bill is for an inside room with a $159 per person, $67.59 government fees, and $200 upgrade fees.  There is a contact number which only sends you to a voice mail.
Don't think this is a "complimentary cruise"

Hey smart guy, this phone number is not associated with a company that does any business in NY, nor is it even called Members Way. Get your information straight.

PS Because of the way 800notes is indexed in Google, sometimes searches for phone numbers will lead you to pages with the same 1-800 number with the LAST FOUR DIGITS BEING DIFFERENT than your search query.

You're A Dumbass.

Just a follow-up. Here is the message that the US postal service gives when you report suspected fraud on their website:

"Thank you for completing this form. The information you provided will be entered into our national complaint system.

"The U.S. Postal Inspection Service gathers data on mail-related crime to determine whether a violation has occurred. While we can't guarantee that we can recover lost money or items, your information can help alert Inspectors to problem areas and possibly prevent other people from being victimized.

"U.S. Postal Inspectors base their investigations on the number, substance, and pattern of complaints received from the public. We ask you to keep all original documents related to your complaint. We will contact you ONLY if more information is needed."

So, as you can see, the more complaints that come in, the more likely something will be investigared. Please take responsibility and report. Only write facts and keep opinions out of it. Yes, it is upsetting but the facts will reveal any fraud. If there is none found, well nobody gets hurt. But if there turns out to be, not reporting can get many people hurt.

Once again, the link to make a report is: https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/forms/mailfraudcomplaint.aspx

When checking off type of fraud, I believe "Prize/Sweepstakes" fits the best.

Hello all. I didn't go so far as to send any money or even attend the presentation. I was suspicious the minute I saw them using company trademarks that did not belong to them. I called and gave them the reservation number. They asked me their "qualifying questions". They said that their "client" was looking for a certain demographic. You needed to be either married or a single female, have a major credit card that is not a debit card and be between 35 and 70 years old. They said it was a new company in a local town to here (NY state) called Members Way and they were a sort of travel club. Immediately when I showed skepticism, the guy suddenly told me that he saw the callendar was booked and there were no more scheduled presentations available.

Anyway, I have always been frustrated because these companies are so slippery, and they take advantage of the fact that most people don't know what or where to report. Since the 855 number people won't reveal their identity and they seem like a third party, it seems difficult to do anything about it. Well they may not have used a return address but they (or the company that does their mailings) certainly does have a mailing permit number. Mine says PERMIT 3950. Check yours to be sure. One thing I know is that the US takes mail fraud very seriously. I don't know if one complaint will do anything but if many start coming in, at least these permits will get flagged. This was, even if it is a mailing company, the mailing company can get enough heat to give up their source. Advertising fraud may seem like a grey area but when you involve the postal service, you are talking aboiut serious offenses. Go to this link to report it: https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/forms/mailfraudcomplaint.aspx

I urge all of you to make a report. If it is a false representation and it is mail, it's fraud. Enough reports will get these guys nailed.

If you are confused about what may be falsely represented, consider no return address, an unnamed company representing another company (the place where you go for the presentation) which when looked up or googled does not seem to exist.

There is no harm in reporting something suspicious so, even if someone urges you not to and says something is legit, iif this company has nothing to hide, then a report shouldn't matter, right? Think about it and make your reports no matter what. An investigation will prove innocence OR guilt. Why take a chance if you aren't sure. Good luck.

And how long have you worked there? Maybe if you learned to spell common words correctly like "persistent" you could get a real job instead of a job where you have to run your filthy scam on the phone and internet!

I think most of you people need to realize that everyone isn't always trying to rip you off.  I've done this "free" cruise before.  The word here is persistant, and that's what you have to be.  Just keep at it and it will finally go through.  I had to change my dates 3 times and then of course wait for them to reply.  It did take me over a year to go on the cruise (they extended the time for me when I requested it), I had to pay all port charges and taxes as I was told.  I didn't do an upgrade, which is where they sometimes get you.  All in all, for a first cruise, pretty damn good deal.  Bottom line you save about 50% off any deal you'd get on the internet.  That you have to decide is worth it to you.

Pro-Consumer (Joke) Free cruise is a rip off, they want you to pay a $99 processing fee before your trip is even booked. Once you pay the fee it will be months if not almost a year before you get everything you need to book the cruise. If you get it at all!! By that time its to late. O yea and its only good for off season travel Oct-Sep. Bet they will delete this comment because they do not want the public to know!!

I was wondering how much your "free cruise" ended up costing: $99 processing fees, upgrade? Taxes? And when did you travel?  I already paid the processing fee and I am waiting for their response.

I received the card, made the call and made an appointment.  Attended the appointment, received the paperwork for the seven night cruise for two.  I mailed the voucher in using Certified Mail and it was returned to me undeliverable because it was unclaimed.

I would like to know who to report them to.

Funny thing about this is when I went to the presentation they were willing to give me a discount since I was a single woman with children... save me about 1300.  Still to costly for me and the sad part is if I had the money I would have joined.  I went to the presentation in Aug and sent my voucher off but to this day and its now the end of November.. never got anything back in the mail.  Good thing because I would have probably sent the $100 in for a cruise.

My wife and I received the same card about 4 months ago here in Myrtle Beach SC.We attended a presentation at a local Hotel .They said it would take 45 minutes but it was more like an hour and ten.But anyway at the end my wife really liked it and wanted to join their "club" so against my better judgement we did .I have been pleasantly surprised ! We purchased a new bedroom set that we saved  over $2300 on .We booked an Alaskan Cruise that we are gonna save $ 1800 on .And We just finished taking the "free cruise" we got for going there .The "club" Pro-Consumer is Awesome however the "free cruise" is a little low end .We had the chance to upgrade at a small cost and wish we had've but all in all even if we had'nt joined it was still well worth the hour of my time for the cruise .A lot of these things are scams just wanted to let everyone know fortunately for us this one is legit.
