The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

I've gotten this plus several other messages from other scammers in the past few weeks.  I've hired an attorney.  I'm not dealing with this bull, I'm just going to save the messages, collect the information and let the attorney do whatever he feels is necessary on my behalf.

If you google the number he gives in the message, it comes up with a site for davis and cohen. If you go to the site (davisandcohen.com), it looks like a legitimate site. However, if you do a little more digging, you will find that the site and domain were created 12 days ago (from 7/29). You can see it here: http://www.statscrop.com/www/davisandcohen.com

You are a shill!  You most likely work for the criminals running this scam and post on boards like this to try to make the scam calls more legitimate.

Okay, you got served with a "warrant" today and you are here posting about it?  Nice try shill.  Now back to the boiler room you slime ball!

That was a fake message by the Scammer/Shill using my name.  No one served me any warrant or anything else  as everyone on this thread pretty well knows..   This shill is just doing what he does best...lying!  And using my name as his.  Folks,  no way a stinking Scammer is going to get anything served  unless he orders his own New Deli Pizza.    Any future posts you read on this thread will not be mine.  In order to make this dumb scammer look stupid,  I will refrain from further postings so that there will be no question that it is him  "spoofing" me.
Have a good day,  and don't pay that lying scammer a dime....

Kimberly,  most all of these scams that call your employer,  use the HR word like it was a laser weapon,  and are coming to serve,  etc.,   are coming from scammers in Asia.  Most are Indian or Pakistani.  They have apparently found that calling ones employer and tossing the HR words around bring results from fear.  All it takes is to make your supervisor or manager aware of the scam and that there is nothing you can do about it since they are over seas.  I recommend giving your company a formal letter stating what is happening and printing off a copy of this thread,  and other threads,  to support your claim.    Termination without cause is illegal.  Therefore if anyone is terminated because of being scammed and unable to stop the calls,  the employer will be open to a liabel suit that they can't  win.   The laws of this country and the lack of co-operation from other countries makes prosecuting them almost impossible.  Best thing to do is fight back and don't even give them the slightest hope for collecting.   goood luck...

Prank Call
Someone called my phone I answered didn't say anything and the male started talking gave no name said some company's name. Went on to say he was attempting to serve me some papers pertaining to an complaint that was given to his company. Told me that he came to my home to serve the papers and was unsuccessful, that's odd I was at home all day. Then says if I don't get in touch with him a bench warrent will be served. After that he states another company's name Davis and Colin. I don't mean no harm but this is one of the top rated illegal forms of scamming techniques and any debt collection or legal firm would know this....hell I was played once but not no more. People talk to an lawyer they'll tell you that law firms don't do that....law enforcement don't do that....if an bench warrant is to be administered telll them ok. You can't be arrested for not paying a bill. Hell my credit is already fukd...locking me up wont make things any better. Do what other companies do put a bad mark on my credit and write it off. The people who are pressed are broker than I am cause of these lame tactics.
