The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

I also received two messages from this number.  One on Monday, one on Tuesday. She stated she was Octavia Mac and that she had documents that were acquired by law in my state and that if I didn't call back they would be delivered today at 5pm.  She provided a claim number for me as well, starting with 63.  No one came.  Surprise,surprise.  Her last statement was "Consider yourself notified.  Good luck!"

Same person called my work and cell. Unknown on my cell but did get the number at my work caller id. They used my former married name which I haven't used in years. When I told them they had the wrong number, they asked to speak with human resources. Human resources informed them they had the wrong number. It was Sue McGee. They are supposed to deliver papers tomorrow between 3 and 5pm at my work or my home. She provided a claim number (6 digits). Per law enforcement friends,  a legitimate claim has the year in it somewhere,  usually first 2 digits.  Mines started with 64. If that's a year, it was more than a decade before I was born.

I received the same phone call from Sue McGee saying there was pending litigation against my social security number. Yet there were no details. It just said to call "the agency" and left a number 1-855-935-3671. I didn't call back since the details were so vague.

Also to previous posters, when you call someone blocked, there are ways to unblock a number so I do NOT recommend calling this number back from your personal phone. They are likely using Trapcall or something similar.

Well they said they were coming three times and no one showed. The last call was somewhat nasty, but still no ID or any indication of what it concerned. Feels like a scam.

Yep, no one showed..  You know it's funny, sad actually.  The woman who called and left me a message sounded mean and gruff... When I called the number back... The man that answered had a very nice pleasant voice... I feel so sorry for the people who fall for this... Something needs to be done to stop these people.

I got the EXACT SAME CALL.. TWICE.  No one has called again and no one showed up to my home or place of employment.. I called the number back (restricted) and a guy named Carl Townsend answered.  I hung up.  Despite me calling restricted.. HE CALLED ME BACK... And left me a message on my voicemail that I had just called and we got disconnected.  Then a couple of hours later is when I got my 2nd call from a woman named Sue McGee..  My father is an attorney, and no company trying to collect a debt or serve you with papers would do this, or have a number that was not listed..  My assumption is, that they want you to call so that they can try to intimidate you into making an over the phone payment and gain access to your money.  I never give anyone my personal information over the phone unless I initiated the phone call.
I have, regrettably, filled out a few forms online recently, giving limited personal information, which I almost never do... I can only assume this is how they got my information..
Hope this helps.

I received same call, Came from blocked number, Susan Reynolds stated she had some legally required documents.
Called on Tuesday 01/28/14 then on Thursday 01/30/14.
Unfortunately I have been served legal papers before, and the County Sheriff is the only one that I know of that would call before serving something legitimately legal.
Sounds like scam to me!!
Left me 855-935-3671 to call with questions.

Prank Call
I also received a call from the restricted 855-935-3671. I called it's back and "Bob" answered. Supposedly, they are going to deliver some legal documents on Friday, January 31st that are required by my state. Sounds like a scam. I have never had a call two days prior to delivering something. Better Business Bureau might be interested.
