Consumer alert: Debt reduction companies
Beware of ?too good to be true offers?
Ottawa, January 10, 2012 ? The Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) today issued a Consumer Alert on debt reduction companies. FCAC is warning Canadians: Be very cautious about companies that claim they can negotiate a deal with your creditors so that you will have to pay only part of your debt. This process is often called ?debt reduction,? ?debt settlement,? ?debt relief? or ?debt negotiation.?
Consumers who are looking for information on dealing with their debt will find tips on getting out of debt on FCAC's website at fcac.gc.ca

I got a call from this number three days ago and then from 760-705-8888 this morning (not to mention a 000-000-0000 call yesterday). So....what do they have in common? All of them have tried to run the computer virus scam. Like really! Someone out there can see into your computer (which is sending many weird error messages out) and they will fix it if you just trust them and allow access. Apparently some people fall for this and will give 'control' of their computer over to someone via the internet. But most us have enough grey matter to figure this one out as a scam.

I didn't bother answering this number after I punched it into the web browser and found this forum.

Called me a while ago but not here to take the call. Another site says these creepy cretons are trying the credit scam ... calling about reducing interest rate or about some other fabulous, hard to resist deal (yeah, right, only if you are a moron). Don't take the bite on this one.

They called. I answered with "Hello?". There was just silence on other end, so I hung up.

I got the call too at 11:42 am. An automated voice came on saying it was "David from CCCF" about credit debt. It's the second time I received a call from them!

It called me in BC. I answered at the same time as the machine, and it hung up.

I live in Nova Scotia and just got a call from 856-295-9707. I did not answer the phone but instead quickly googled the number. They did not leave a message. So tired of these calls.

I live in Nova Scotia and just got a call from 856-295-9707 and no one was on the other end of the line. We have it now listed as Do Not Answer when we see it come up on call identifier.

When I answer, they hang up.

I get a call from this number at least 3 times a week. It leaves an automated voicemail, saying I can "press 1 to reduce credit card debt". Well, I'm Canadian and this number is from New Jersey, and I don't have any credit card debt, so I assume it is a scam to try and get your credit card #.

A call from the 856 295-9707. The answer machine got the call and only the sound of running water and static on the machine. Merely my thoughts, could this be the work of a some mentally sick deranged person somewhere out, who might be reading our comments and getting some kind of thrill by doing this. There seem to be a lot of complaints on this telephone number. ( Nothing is implied or suggested by the above comments. Merely thoughts. )
