Telemarketing call to cell phone on the DNC. Now they are calling about home alarm systems. They asked a "Marketing Purposes" question if I'd received calls about home alarm systems before. Of course I have. >click< Yeah, I guess they know we're on to their scams... Call was by Gary Thompson, who apparently isn't qualified to talk to people about their product/pricing, and then by a Joseph Johnson who apparently doesn't feel like he can compete with all the other home alarm telemarketers that's been done so far or knows that the well has been pretty poisoned. If that's the case, he's going to have a long, slow day... I guess I could have told him that I'd never received a 'home alarm telemarketing call' before, and seen how long I could have talked to him.
No its not!
Looks like it's a scam. However, all you need to know is: per the FDCPA, you should not pay any caller who refuses to MAIL - do not accept email, text or fax - proof that you owe a debt and proof that your caller has the legal right to collect said debt. Refusal to mail this documentation within five days of their initial call is a violation of federal law. Also, if you were going to be sued, you'd have received dunning letters, and if you ignored those, you would get a visit from a process server - unannounced - or receive a court summons via certified or registered mail. You wouldn't find out about it first through a vague phone call laced with threats.

Follow the steps in what you need to know. A legitimate debt collector agency should not have a problem with giving you a real business name and address you can google and verify via google street view, BBB etc.
For extortion Scam Operations, file reports with the FBI, your state attorney general and Department Of Justice,FTC & FCC..
And folks should consider looking at maybe getting call blocking device or phone....you can Google them and many are around $60 or so.
So is this legit? Do I need a lawyer?
I also had a call from this number
got the call from 857-444-5591 and 713-955-5535 but didn't leave a message. when i called back, it played the same automated message
Very strange comments left for this number. I just received a call from this number on my work line. Left a message about getting a free security system if I let them place a small sign on my yard.
I agree with everyone, this number must be a scam.
These guys have 2 other numbers to which they might call you by!!
They call you by a new number with the same voice message for every number that you block!!
These messages say "We need to receive a statement from you or your attorney if you have one, today in order to resolve this issue and release you from this matter... Your case number is (fake case number consisting of an obscene amount of 2's and 0's)." Then after that the voice message will say "This is an attempt to collect a debt, any information to obtain the debt owed will be used against you." Shortly after that it will state either your name or someone you know...
BE CAREFUL WITH THESE GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No need to stress
