It's CoStar, a commercial real estate research and multiple listing company. This group collects information on real estate transactions. If you have a purchase or a sale of a piece of real property, you will likely get a call. We told them it was a private sale and would not give out any information without talking with the other individual involved in the transaction. They most likely sell the information to realty companies or are paid by them to collect the info.

Wanted info regarding a property that sold. Since that is public information on tax rolls  I did not mind sharing
this information

Has anyone actually gone to the Costar site? www.costar.com It's a research company. They get funded by CRE professionals. Large brokerage firms, small firms, traders, government agencies REITs,  the Assessor's office, etc.

They do research on the commercial real estate market. Basically, they get paid to collect information on it all from what commercial properties exist , who owns them, who manages them. If they are actively on the market for sale for lease. any projects that are under construction or proposed to be developed, who sold what, who bought what, who is a tenant at a property, etc, how long has something been on the market, whats the average sale price, lease price , etc.

They aren't telemarketers so they don't have to abide by the DNC list. They aren't trying to sell you anything. They have a sales side but most of the calls are about researching the market. It's their business to show everything that's current with the market, even if the RE agent doesn't want to list to them. If its available for lease or sale its their business to show it no matter what.

They don't get paid by the listing agent . They get paid by everyone else to show it all. They expect the listing agent to list with them and keep it current because it tends to be hard for the agent to explain to a property owner why they are choosing not to speak to someone about their property they are trying to sell or lease.

Called asking for the address to our sports memorabilia shop we just opened up. Rep name was Yvonne Payeco. Explained they do commercial real estate research.

Talked sports a little but felt bad for her cause she said she was a Chargers fan.  Don't think we have one item in our shop thats Chargers related. Just not a good investment.

Received a call from someone from here. Stated their name was Emily Chew. Asked if we were still at our old address. Said she was calling with a company that tracked commercial tenant movements. Was nice but short. Asked about how big our space was but told her that information was overly sensitive. Felt if I kept answering questions would never stop.

Got a call from a Pam GeeRouex . She was nice. Older sounding lady with a slight accent. Asked about a property i bought. Told her I wasn't comfortable with giving that information out.

Some person called Louis Ahmendaires called. Asked questions about property I purchased. Explained they confirm information county assessor puts out to do comparables and appraisals. Seemed to be upfront and gave reasonable explanations for all questions. Said i didn't have to answer but just asked about condition of property. Already had closing price.  Explained  its a private company that collects information about the commercial real estate market .www.costar.com

Guy named Brian has called twice leaving an 888 number to reply to.  Asking for details on a closed sale which are easily found in the closed mls printout.  Not returning the call to 888 # because I don't want my number captured and sold to other marketers.

Got a call from some guy named Fred Anchorman or something like that. He wanted to know how long we have been in business. He sounded like an idiot with a cold. I said mind your own business and hung up.

Got a call from this number asking about my store hours, when I enquired as to who was calling he mumbled something and hung up.  I registered for the DNC list and was annoyed by the intrusion

It's CoStar, a commercial real estate research and multiple listing company. They are a credible company with an outstanding reputation and innovative tools. No harm whatsoever in giving them information on the size of your suite, suite number, etc. I'm a commercial real estate broker and talk with the folks at CoStar on a weekly basis.

Received a call from someone asking what the buyer planned to do with a property he just purchased. Stupid questions (how long was the escrow?) that don't amount to anything. Googling or entering an an address in Redfin gives you all the info one needs if you're trying to play Private Eye!   Lame.

Same here.  Some guy pretended he was driving to my store, and asking the suite number of my store.  Totally annoying.

Didn't recognize the number or name of company so didn't answer the phone.  No message left.  Says Comps syst inc.  Never got a call from this number before.

A lady called.  She already knew our co address and asked if it is right.  I said yes, then she hung up right away.

This company just collects information on realeste properties then sells the information to banks , realetors, etc.  They have a database of pictures too.  Much like google maps, but a commercial building will have pics of all four sides, instead of just a street sie pic.

Same as others. Called to confirm info. I don't know why they lie either. Look up the number and get my name, my website, my address. I don't know what they want.

We received a call from this number the other day. He asked right away to confirm our address and web site. He gave the reason that he had somehow been given a confusing change of address notice for us. He said he was just checking because he was with the company that managed the building. I know this to be a lie because I work for the owner of the entire building and we don't use a management company. I don't know why they lie, I would have given him our web site address, it's not a secret! I don't know what they are up to but if their employees are instructed to lie to gather leads then we would never do business with CoStar.

Called my business, asked me to confirm our address, then asked how long we had been here, then hung up. Not sure what they wanted, and I didn't get the chance to ask...

Identified herself as Lana Dorfman from the Costar group and requested personal information. Has called four times demanding to know personal information and promises to stop calling if I disclose. Has called home and cell numbers (both are on DNC list).
