The Ontario "Collection Agency Act" of 1990, prohibits collection agencies from calling anyone more than 3 times per week and specifies what days & hours are permitted.

Any violations are criminally prosecutable thru Ontario Dept.of Consumer Affairs.

Better still, go to Canadian Tire TODAY and purchase a small air powered horn (aprx. $40)
The next time they call simply direct a blast into the telephone.
These emit a blast in the 120 decibel range.  Certainly enough to cause temporary hearing loss.
Remember too that these callers use headsets and not a conventional telephone handset

For 4 years AK Collection has been calling with thier auto dialer. Not that it matters to me, they are calling our spare service truck. I did try to explain this to them once that I didn't know the person they were looking for.
I am reporting them to Consumer and Corperate Affairs and I suggest that everyone does.
If they are stupid enough to waste resourses for years on a number that is never answered due to the fact that the truck is hardly used, except after midnight, there is know telling what they are capable of.

It is against Ontario law to solicit information from anyone who is not the person named on the debt, they cannot legally speak to anyone other than the debtor except to ask if they are there, leave a message " regarding a personal matter " and return number. that is all. if they do anything more they can be charged.

They buy old consumer debts. They bought a small debt ($200.00) of my fathers that was written off more than 15 yrs ago by the old Canada Trust bank because he provided proof the bill was paid. They say my father owes almost $1,500 now.  Since my father lived with me they have been calling my number for the last 5 years (3-4 times a day). I told them that my father is away for the summer and to stop harrassing me at my home. I was told it was thier right to call because it was my fathers last known phone #. Does anyone know who I can call to get them to stop calling me and to file a harrassment complaint? They have even called form that number trying to say they were a window company. Thanks

I called them back because they keep calling. We do not owe anything..they are trying to collect for a bill that was paid in full over 7 years ago (one time I would like add) to Franklin Mint. We went through this a few years ago and were assure by Franklin Mint this was not an outstanding account we did pay in full on time. I called Franklin Mint today and their records only go back to 2004. So I have no idea how to handle this now....

THEY ARE A COMPANY THAT CANNOT COLLECT A LOAN OVER FIVE YEARS OR MORE.  WHEN OR IF YOU START TO PAY ..YOU WILL START AT SQUARE ONE AND THEY WILL MAKE SURE YOU HAVE BAD CREDIT... Called me today...dont know who it is, they left a message "regarding my account with them" Well I have never heard of the place and my bills are all up to date so they need to stop phoning

it is a bill collector.  ....something 'capital' and even if u block your phone number they can get it!!!
