Call was legit. Seems to be some kind of credit card fraud center that handles multiple banks. I had tried to make a purchase from a company based in Cyprus, and that sent up a red flag. The number connected me with my Umpqua Bank fraud center and they said they couldn't process that particular international transaction and I would need to use a different method.

Some people claim that the subject of the call doesn't have a credit card. This could be a warning that someone has tried to open a credit card in that person's name. As always, if you have any doubts, call the bank directly.

AT&T only texts me to report my payment so did not respond to this message that said if you are Nancy Dexter you may have unwanted charges on your card? Please press 1 to confirm. I chose not to respond at all . I do not have a card only an account with AT&T. Looking at the website I did not find any action.

The fact that they're 'still at it - four years later' speaks to their legitimacy.  Fraud/phishing scams don't usually have this kind of staying power.  Next time call the number back... you might save yourself some grief.

This is the 3rd or 4th time I've recieved a call from this number over the past couple of years.  They call on behalf of my bank to verify recent charges - international charges or excessive/repeat attempts at charges are usually red flags.  They don't ask for account numbers or personal information, just ask you to confirm that a recent charge/charges were made by you.  It's a great service on behalf of your bank, and in a case where someone is up to no good with your card info, it can be pretty handy.

Received two calls from this number today and the other end was an automated message.  I did not answer either calls, but did listen to the voicemail it left.

Still at it -- four years later.

Number called me about possible fraud and gave me a personal number to enter when I called back. I returned the call, entered the number and got through then had to hang up because something came up. When I tried to return the call and put in my personal number they couldnt recognize it. No option to speak with a real person

This is legitimate "fraud detection". This was the result of a credit card purchase that was out of the ordinary.

Not sure what the scam is they are trying to run, but this was NOT A LEGITIMATE CALL FROM MY BANK - They claim to be Fraud Prevention Services  - they left a message that said they were calling from my bank (my bank name was inserted by a computer) due to suspicious activity on my debit card and that a hold may have been placed on my account and I should call them back.  I called my bank instead and this call did not come from my bank.  There was no suspicious activity and there was no hold.

This is a legitimate call, but its easy to verify. Just hang up and call your bank. Visa fraud uses this when any usual activity is posted to your account. Your bank people can let them know whether the charge in question was valid or not, and you can rest assured that you're talking to your actual bank.

Just received a call from them to confirm last three transactions due to suspected fraud. I was suspicious at first due to the call being received after business hours but later called the VISA debit card fraud hotline at my bank and he confirmed everything that was said on the initial call. This number is legit. The reported charges were fraudulent, the card is now reported as stolen and thus no longer valid, and now I've got to go get a new debit card issued.

I recieved a call from this number on my cell then sent to voice mail. I listened to the message, it was a recording stating my name and I had recent suspicious activity on my *blank* Bank account. It left the same number as their call back number and a reference #. I google the phone number which brought me to this site and I read conflicting comment regarding the validity of whom ever called. Therefore, I contacted my banker and checked into it and determined it is an LEGIT call from VISA directly regarding my recent gas purchases. Again, it was not from my bank fraud department, but from VISA fraud detection unit directly. BTW the only called my cell instead of my home number because number wasn't updated. PROBLEM SOLVED!

This is an authorized, legitmate service that is provided by the fraud detection center contracted with most bank providers.  The inital call is an automated and  provides a personal access code to retrieve the acutal message intended for the individual.  You must call back and enter the access code to get the live person.  They do not ask you for any banking information or details other than your zipcode. you will immediately be patched through to the live representive who will confirm they are speaking to the intended auidence.  This representative will then tell you of recent transactions made on your debit/checkcard./credit card.  They will ask you if those are legitmate charges.  If you say yes, then the flag will be taken off your account and the charges will process.  If you say no, those charges are denied and flagged as fraudlent and you will be instructed to contact your banking and/or credit provider to cancel that account/card.  I know from personal experience this is a legitmate service because my debit card was skimmed twice at gas station pumps in the past  and both times I was notified immeditately of fraudlent charges made to my account.  Half a dozen amounting to over 600 dollars to a nightclub in Arlington, VA , 300 dollars in charges to Ikea in Brooklyn New York and ust today, someone used that canceled card at McDonalds in South Africa.

Sounds like this number is both legit and used in scams - for me it was legit.

After receiving a voicemail from this number, I viewed my account online and there were pending charges I didn't recognize. Called my bank and they told me what company the pending charges were for, which confirmed it was fraud. They told me to call this 866 number back, as it is the fraud detection unit for MasterCard which many banks use, hence why this number works for multiple businesses (as was a previous complaint in this thread).

When in doubt, contact your bank at the number you have for them and ask them to look into your account and/or whether or not it's necessary for you to return the previous call.

actually you are wrong. i just got off the phone with my bank and told them a number called me (i happened to have a transaction decline on my debit card and i just got paid) she rattled the same number off right away and said that yes it is a third party and if  I had NOT called my bank and had them confirm there was no fraud the company that called would have put a hold on my ATM card.  because I didnt answer or call the 866 number back.  so you are wrong.  although it is better to assume it is fraud anyway,  people just call your banks to confirm, or you may have your account shut down.  dont call the 866 number if that worrys you!!

I work for the bank I use and I assure you this is a scam. Our bank does not use any outsourced agency.  They call you themselves. I've gotten three of these calls in the past 10 hours and I am certain it's scam as my bank has confirmed it.

I received several calls both yesterday and today from this number, and since the message sounded a bit suspicious I called my bank.  My bank did verify that this was a legitimate call from a 3rd party service used by their ATM department, and she even identified a flagged transaction in question prior to transferring me to the service directly.  I had made a couple of out-of-the country purchases through pay pal from retailers on Etsy and because they were not US based they got flagged for verification.  I'm glad I called my bank, though, as I never would have called the service otherwise and my account could have ended up frozen without my being aware.

sounds like a 3rd party that verifies odd buying behavior.
i bought online from ibm recently, then paid a co in th uk for some web services... certainly suspicious enough to have the bank get in touch.

SCAMMM!  DO NOT BELIEVE THIS MESS!  I  received a call from this number on yesterday and today; both from an automated number asking me to call them back and type in a 6 digit code.  Yesterday it was a different code, I called the number back, entered the 6 digit code and some man answered asking for my zip code.  I asked why he wouldn't know it if this was a valid call?  I asked him for which bank he was referring to?  He did not know!  I immediately hung up.  Well, today I got the same automated call, this time with a different 6 digit code.  I called my banks fraud department, which stated, "THEY DO NOT CALL WITH AUTOMATED VOICEMAIL ASKING FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS TO ENTER ANY CODE; NONE WHAT SO EVER!"  They are doing an investigation on the phone number of: 866-750-9107

Ok, Have to say the call I got was NOT SCAM! I've read all the posts here yesterday because I had a voice mail from this # and the message they were from fraud detection center regarding activity on my debit card with the bank I used. I got another call just now and answered it. After listening to the message I hung up and called my bank to verify it. It was legitimate!. Yesterday morning I was going to use my db card to buy an ebook using paypal to process the payment and the card wasn't accepted. It wasn't long after that I got a call from this number. When I spoke with the bank just now they verified that because the company was in Great Britain [not US based] it was flagged.

Was legit when i got this call.  they didn't ask me to provide any personal information other than my name and zip code.  However, when googling the number before calling them I came across this other site, which may explain the differing experiences with this number:
http://www.scamwarners.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=18771
According to this page, this fraud detection center number is or has been used by both legitimate banks and scammers alike.  The key, as always I think, is to know what to be suspicious of, and not provide important information like your account numbers to people you don't know over the phone.

It would, however, have been nice, if I could have found this number on my actual banks website to easily confirm that it's a number I might expect to receive a call from if something like this happens.

I received a message, and they said to call back and verify personal information.  Was not liking how that sounded, so I contacted my bank first.  They gave me a number that was DIFFERENT than what was left on the automatic message, because they did have a fraud prevention team they hired separate from the bank.  I called the number my BANK gave me, and they indeed did have a hold on my account so I could not continue charges.  In the future, if I ever get a message like this, I'm still going to call my bank for the different number for safety, but the call was accurate.

I've worked at a fraud detection center.  You have to watch out because scammers can what bank fraud depts call clone a phone number.  They can call you and make it appear as the legit number.  As far as them knowing your phone number a program called fast data web gives them all your info past number adresses etc.  The best thing to do is call back or contact your local bank.

This was only half-legitimate for me. They were claiming to be the Fraud Detection Center, but were calling my cell phone on behalf of an "Erica A. Banks," who I do not know, from a "Bank Atlantic" that I also do not know. They have called me three times in the past 24 hours. The first time, I ignored the call and a voicemail was left that I deleted. The second and third times, I answered and went through the automated system to tell them that I was not Erica and that they had the wrong number. Obviously, it did not register the first time...so I guess I will keep getting calls from them. Get your money straight, Erica!

For what it's worth... I got a call from this number, and from the seach on the net I hung up and called my bank.  My bank DID confirm that there was a fraud alert, and that number was a third-party fiServ (financial services) who they contract for these matters.  In all things, if you have doubts, hang up and call your bank directly, but this was legit.
