Citizen,  this is an invaluable post - thank you for sharing it!

Last week, early one morning (before I had my first cup of coffee,) the phone rang and and a female asked for me by name (disturbing that this scum has my personal information.) While she neither clearly identified herself nor the organization she was representing, she launched into her spiel: a spiel that sounded oddly familiar! When asked if she could, "send me an envelope for a small donation," I responded, "sounds good" (by the way, NEVER say, "OK" or "Yes" when speaking to these rodents.)  She then continued on, with the excuse, "they make me ask this" and tried to elicit from me how large a donation I would be making, concluding with the comment, "the usual donation is 75 to 100 dollars." At that point, I said "Bye Bye."

After hanging up, I reviewed my records and discovered that a female had used this same spiel twice in the past two months: first incident representing "Breast Cancer" and the second incident representing "Leukemia."  Further research revealed all three calls are connected with an outfit going by the name of  "Associated Community Services." Here are some of the other names (subject to change as federal regulators close in) of "charities" ACS solicits for:

Autism Spectrum Disorder Foundation
Breast Cancer Society*
Cancer Fund of America
Children with Hairloss
Children's Cancer Recovery Fund*
Disabled Veterans Services
Firefighters Assistance Fund
Firefighters Charitable Foundation
Firefighters Support Services
Foundation for American Veterans
Law Enforcement Alliance of America
Law Enforcement Education Program
National Children's Leukemia Foundation*
Operation Lookout
Vietnam Veterans of Washington State
Youth Development Fund

I also get calls from this number and it comes up as unknown. I know who the caller really is and I won't answer. How can they keep calling when I'm on the do not call list ?

My wife mistakenly agreed to support this charity. They pressed hard for credit card info over the phone, then called several times a day all weekend and after 8:30 pm again assisting for credit card info as opposed to a check through mail.

They (Childrens Cancer Recover Foundation) has a new number 1-877-208-8368.  I know because I called it back when the rude female giving her pitch hung up on me. What had I done to her???  I ran to answer the phone, when she asked for my husband (who often gets business calls at home) I politely asked her to wait a moment & went to find him. When it turned out he was in the shower, I returned and offered to take a message. She then informed me that I WOULD DO  and launched into her pitch....when I stopped her to explain that we have a charity that we support she was extremeIy rude and hung up!!!   I called this wonderful outfit and no one answers the phones....left my name and number and never heard back. What a surprise from such a benevolent two faced charity.  Why does the State of PA continue to allow them to operate???

Children?s Cancer Recovery Foundation (CCRF) uses telemarketing to raise funds for its programs. We instruct the telemarketing team to explain that CCRF gives financial aid to families with children living with cancer, and we also donate toys and games to help making living with childhood cancer more bearable. When contacting potential donors, telemarketers working with CCRF are directed to ask for credit card or personal information and to only call 3 times per year. If the person does not answer, they are rolled back in to the calling system. We recognize the importance for telemarketers to respect potential donors and those on the National Do Not Call List. Please be advised that telemarketers should not be able to call your phone number once it has been on the National Do Not Call List for 31 days.

We apologize sincerely if the call you received did not conform to our standards. If you have any questions or concerns now or in the future, please write to us at childrens@cancerrecovery.org or call us in our office at 1 (800) 238-6479 so that we can make sure our telemarketers are representing us in the best light possible.

As the marketing communications manager for Childrens Cancer Recovery Foundation (CCRF)*, I am both dismayed and disturbed to hear that individuals are using our children with cancer to prey on well-meaning donors. Phone scams, whether real or suspected hurt legitimate charities like ours. Children?s Cancer Recovery Foundation raises funds for its programs through a telemarketing company. However, it is entirely possible that there is a phony telemarketing scheme using our name. We are a member of the Better Business Bureau, and we have earned the GuideStar Exchange Seal. Every donation helps us advance our mission. If you are at all concerned that the call you?re receiving is a scam, please call our office at 1 (800) 238-6479 or e-mail us at childrens@cancerrecovery.org. Feel free to use our online donation system at www.childrenscancerrecovery.org.

Caller is a fundraiser for Children's Cancer Recovery Foundation..  These calls are annoying, but after working for a similar organization I understand why they need to use fundraiser.  It is hard to raise money these days and fundraisers like this are the only reason some of these foundations can help the sick.

First off be nice when your asking them from all the informaton you will need so they dont hang up on you :-) This is for any group thats calling you and you cant get them to stop.
I got them to stop calling by reporting it to the this site http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm
They sent me a email stating they were going to get them stopped and they did and i just got a letter in the mail with a copy of my complaint attached to a copy form the company stating they were sorry and this matter would be taken care of and i would not be bothered any further and they have removed me from the calling list i havent got any calls in over a month now. FROM ANY 800 NUMBERS LOL
anyway
After reporting them to this site above. The FCC emailed me and said they dont have the right to call you over and over if you dont want them to and if you ask them not to contact you they have to stop. But You do need to get some information from them when they call you again YOU WILL NEED THIS. Be nice to them cant stress enough so you can get this infromation from the caller
You need the number they are calling you from.
I even ask the lady for the website so i could make sure i have all there information ;-)

You need the name of the person thats calling you from that number.
You need the time and Date they called you. every time they called look through caller ID most have time and date stamed.
After you get all the above infromation tell them to take you off there call list and let them know if they call you back your turning them in to the FCC consumer complaints.
Save this information so you will have it later if they do call you back you can file a complaint with the attorney general's office complaints online in for your area, if they keep calling you file a complaint through that office and they will get a fine and you can get up to $1500.00 for them calling over and over is what my email stated in it from the FCC that i got just a few weeks ago.

Just got a call from 877-213-5486. I looked the number up here and saw it was bogus, so I let it roll to voice mail. I also received a call from 877-208-5257 on 8/15/11 at 8:30 PM, which appears to be the same group. I never answer a number I don't recognize and they didn't leave a message either time.

Calling for some scam of a children's cancer fund.  Woman who called talked as if she had a mouth full of fecal matter (excrement).  First, I told her to slow down and enunciate.  She hung up when I told her to take me off the calling list as I was not interested.  If you call back you can't get a hold of anyone unless you give name, phone number, and donation number if you have one.  Everyone should keep calling back to this number and leave an extended message without talking (hit 8 to extend the message) as it costs them to receive your calls (877 number).  Also, report it to the National Do Not Call Registry
( https://www.donotcall.gov/https://www.donotcall.gov/ )    and your state's equivalent listing, if you have such.

called us at 9:49AM but left no message. I googled the number 8772085257...children's cancer group, probably wanting money. We're on "do not call list" but I believe charities wanting donations are exempt and can call us all they want....ugh...that should change by law too.

Just received a call from 8772085257.  Identified himself as a professional fund raising firm for childrens cancer recovery.  First of all I never deal with any professional fund raising anything.  In my opinion this qualifies them as cons, scammers and crooks.  How dare they and who is really behind this.  Surely no one donates to a call like this?
