they have been harrsing me i paid them and they stole over 1000 from me

There are complaints about them all over the internet for harassing people that do not owe the debt, threatening to arrest people for a debt, telling people the only way they'll stop calling is to pay "court costs" on an alleged suit they filed, etc.  According to some of the MANY complaint pages and numbers they've called using, it seems they call about debts that are 5-10 years old, don't care if they were paid or not because they want money.  There are people who have fallen for this, and stated that they paid, and are STILL waiting on getting the documentation of the debt from them.  Of course, their story is that they sent it out ... yeah, right.
What's laughable is one page on their website that says they follow the law during collection attempts.  OBVIOUSLY, NOT!  THEY have an F rating with the FL BBB (see below).

By the way, it would seem to me that, IF you had a bad debt, it would show on your credit report (if still eligible to be reported).  IF you do have a bad debt on your credit report, you might want to consult an attorney and/or the original creditor, rather than these folks who obviously could care less about the law.  [I am NOT an attorney, nor do I profess to be one.  I am NOT dispensing ?legal advice,? simply giving my opinion!]

IF they were calling about a legitimate debt, they would NOT be calling to see if you'll be home all day on certain day to "deliver legal documents" or "subpeona."  A legit collector CANNOT discuss your bill with anyone else OR threaten to arrest you and/or send you to debtor's prison, etc.

SUGGESTIONS (again, I am NOT an attorney and am NOT attempting to dispense legal advice.  These are my PERSONAL suggestions)
1-IF you decide to answer one of their MANY calls from about 50 different telephone numbers (no, I?m not exaggerating), give them NO INFORMATION.  In fact, YOU MAKE THEM ANSWER QUESTIONS, and if they don?t, hang up on them!   I don?t know anything about spoofing/masking numbers, but there have been comments that they are VOIP?ing the majority of the numbers they?re calling from.  I do not doubt this, as a person said the number showing on her phone was that of the local police department.
2-Keep a running log of the date, time, telephone number, person calling and note of conversation to file with your complaints.  (Or, try to record the call, BUT they usually hang up when they?re told they?re being recorded.  ROFLOL, now how many LEGITIMATE collection agencies would do that?  NONE that I?ve ever heard!
3-Look up your state?s Statute of Limitations on debts that can be pursued in court (that you can still be sued for).  It seems to vary from 3-15years.
4-DO NOT allow them to intimidate or frighten you.  These idiots have even called the numbers attorneys, police officers, etc. with this scam.  Intelligent, they are NOT.  

USUAL PLOYS:
1-call friends, neighbors, relatives, employers, and you trying to intimidate you into paying JUST to make the calls stop (but, from looking online, they don?t stop?they just demand more). ? Ask these folks to also keep a log of the calls, give them this internet page to check.  Ask them to do a search for ANY of these company names.  They?ll soon realize it that these people are nothing but SCAMMERS.
2-??have important legal documents (or summons) to deliver, will you be home ---(day) from 8:30 to 4:30 to accept it??
3-?There?s a warrant out for your arrest UNLESS you send us $xxx TODAY?  -- they seem to prefer asking for the ?Green Dot? prepaid card and want you to call back with the numbers on back ? harder to trace where to $ goes, apparently.

Sorry, our names are similar.  They've gotten a bit smarter now. If you even mention "recorded" they hang up in less than a heart beat.

This person called me at this number and told me that I owed for a Payday Loan from years ago. He said I owed $1000 dollars but that they would settle out of court if I set up payments to pay $900 dollars.He gave me a case number and said if I don't pay it that an officer will come to me house with a summons for court in another state.I set up payments for them to withdraw money from my account in the amount of $180.00 a month til it's paid, so far they have received 2 payments and here lately they said that my card was in defauli because someone tried to get a payment on the wrong week and now they have my checking information and still haven't taken my money out now I'm worried thinking that someone is going to serve me with papers for court. I'm going to call to again.

This phone number is with "Goodman and Stern, LLC".   They are a scam.  No one can have you arrested for owing a debt in the first place.  Luckily, I have found a little extra information about them.  7751 Kingspointe Pkwy Suite 107 Orlando, FL 32819.   A couple of extra numbers they have called from or asked me to call back to are 877-212-9618 and 888-799-7118.  Their Fax number is 888-591-3948.  Call your local police and file a report.  You'd be surprised how many investigators actually have a personal stake in this kind of thing.  (It's happened to their family, or co-workers, or friends, or even just that they have had trouble catching them in the past) For the investigator on my case, it's all of the above.  With this information that I managed to track down for him, the investigator said he can make these people pay for what they have done.  It isn't easy, but if you just keep trying to track them down, and wear them down.  Refuse to talk to them at all until they give you their info, and then tell them that you still won't talk to them until you have verified their info online.  Then demand that they give you the original creditor information.  They will try not to, but if you insist and refuse to continue the conversation, they will.  Just keep calm.  Their job is to make you as emotional as possible.  They will often scream at you and hang up.  Just let them.  Give them a few minutes and call them back.  Claim that you were holding for information and your cell lost signal.  They hate that.  All the time, keep calm.  State that you do not owe this.  Tell them that you are going to research the original creditor.  It may take a little googling and extra digging, but try to do it while you're on the phone with them.  Tell them that you have the original creditor's number.  If you have a conferencing or three way calling feature, use it.  Call the original creditor and find out if you have any outstanding bills with them.  Even if they sold the account to a collection agency, they will still be able to find your information.  If you ever had an account, they will be able to pull you up.  So far I've dealt with 5 of these "companies".  I've found that the best way to beat them is to prove them wrong when you are on the phone with them.  Not your word against theirs, but actual proof, from outside agencies.  This is where it gets really fun.  After you have cleared the call with the original creditor, call the local police, but do not connect all of the calls until after the police have answered the phone and you have given them a brief explanation.  You don't even have to hold for an investigator.  All calls into the dispatcher are screened, recorded, and entered into record for the specific purpose of being used as evidence if necessary.  When you connect the calls, tell the collection agency that you are now on a recorded line (just to cover your butt).  Then continue with the conversation.  Staying calm all the while and just insisting that you have already proven to them that you do not owe this.  If they insist that you owe it (and they will), ask for proof again.  This is usually the point where they start yelling and screaming, and verbally assaulting you.  Some are even dumb enough to threaten physical harm.  That's where the police will happily butt into the conversation, and inform them that they were on not just any recorded line, but a police monitored, recorded line.  They WILL hang up, and if they ever call back again, insist that they have the wrong number, but you were contacted by the original owner of this number and given a forwarding number to give to friends who may call.  Ask if they are a friend.  They'll likely say, "yes".  At that point give them the number to the FTC complaint hotline, your local police department, or some other such number.  It will get the message across that they don't want to push you any further.

PS.  Just a note.  The call type requested below, does not have an option for Scum of the Earth Scammer, so I noted it as Debt Collector because that is what they try to present themselves as.
