Children?s Cancer Recovery Foundation (CCRF) uses telemarketing to raise funds for its programs. We instruct the telemarketing team to explain that CCRF gives financial aid to families with children living with cancer, and we also donate toys and games to help making living with childhood cancer more bearable. When contacting potential donors, telemarketers working with CCRF are directed to ask for a donation, and then credit card or personal information if the potential donor says yes; the telemarketer will then only call 3 times per year. If the person does not answer, they are rolled back in to the calling system. We recognize the importance for telemarketers to respect potential donors and those on the National Do Not Call List. Please be advised that telemarketers should not be able to call your phone number once it has been on the National Do Not Call List for 31 days.

We apologize sincerely if the call you received did not conform to our standards. If you have any questions or concerns now or in the future, please write to us at childrens@cancerrecovery.org or call us in our office at 1 (800) 238-6479 so that we can make sure our telemarketers are representing us in the best light possible.

I am the marketing communications manager for Childrens Cancer Recovery Foundation (CCRF). We typically do not deal with third party watchdog organizations such as the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance.  The first reason is because they usually apply their own standards and require an eight-person board.  The second reason is because most of them require you to pay a yearly fee to be a member, which we believe is not a proper use of our funding.  Our organization would have to pay $4,000 every year to be part of the BBB.  With that type of money we could keep a roof over 16 families? heads or send gifts to 1,333 more children.  We currently have a four-person board.  We currently comply with all IRS standards and post our 990 on our website.  We also have an independent firm conduct an audit ever year. GuideStar.org has more current information on our charity and we have earned the GuideStar Exchange Seal for Transparency.I am both dismayed and disturbed to hear that individuals are using our children with cancer to prey on well-meaning donors. Phone scams, whether real or suspected hurt legitimate charities like ours. Children?s Cancer Recovery Foundation raises funds for its programs through a telemarketing company. However, it is entirely possible that there is a phony telemarketing scheme using our name. We are a member of Guide Star, and we have earned the GuideStar Exchange Seal. Every donation helps us advance our mission. If you are at all concerned that the call you?re receiving is a scam, please call our office at 1 (800) 238-6479 or e-mail us at childrens@cancerrecovery.org. Feel free to use our online donation system at www.childrenscancerrecovery.org.

Yesterday we got a call from this number; called back it was Children's Cancer Foundation; today it's Viet Nam Veterans of Michigan, and no one answers of course.

This is an obvious scam.   I requested my number be removed last night, and of course, it wasn't.

So very, very tired of these callers. So many #'s all day long. After years of letting it go to voicemail, I have decided to start answering. She did ask for me by name and wanted my card # to make my pledge. Told her I donate to other causes. Going to try and be nice, and maybe next time ask them if they would think someone calling them asking for card #'s is a scam.

Second call in the same day from these folks.  Warned you I was fiesty today.  I answered this time and was very friendly to the solicitor.  After she asked the question if I would send back what I could in the envelope to cure children's cancer, I said I would if she would answer a question for me, "Are you wearing underwear?" (Picked up the idea from a previous poster).  She said my comment was extrememly inappropriate.  I told her so was her harrassing phone call and I hung up.  I hope this stops calls from these bothersome people.

Answering machines are so magical... They allow for you to go about your day and not be occupied with unwanted telephone interruptions.  Like many of you on this thread, I?ve applied to the DNC list several times, over a handful of years to no avail.  Before that, I used to answer all my incoming calls with much frustration, but that was then.  Government entities are too occupied with other ?stuff? for the moment to address telephone issues that are not high on their priority list.  As for this caller ID 877-213-5486, along with many of the other human or automated ?cold-call-culprits??they are recorded with a moment of silence before they hang up.  Doesn?t matter to me if I?m at home or work; it?s still the same outcome and I no longer feel the need to be annoyed.  Thankfully you have all identified and discussed 877-213-5486, so I don?t have to wonder any longer.  Grateful to you all.

Most of the crooks have learned any law is only as good as the willingness to enforce it.  Congress passed the law but made virtually NO provision for enforcing it!  Even the internet fraud center site the Government had set up has now been closed down, because they were getting too many complaints!!
They do not care about us. They pass a law for "show" to have a big ceremony for the press, then do nothing about it.   They are swine all of them.

You cannot block all their numbers.  These people have blocks of no less than 100.  Block one, they will use another. It would be better if you could just enter the number you wish to ring through.  In this way all these scam artists would not get through.  Recently I entered the HGTV Dream Home Sweepstakes, now I am getting real estate agents bombarding me with their calls.  The s*** never ends!

I purchased a Panasonic cordless home phone and have called ID.  I block such numbers, but can only do it for thirty of them.  That phone rings once on all blocked calls.  I get so many such callers that I will go to another brand that blocks up to 50 numbers and does not ring at all for blocked calls.  Uniden has such a phone on the market right now.

I also have the Uniden phone that blocks calls. Sometimes it will ring once, and other times it doesn't even ring. But I see when they are trying to call as it shows up on my caller i.d. on the television. Yes, it's great to be able to block these guys. I don't think they even know that it's happening. lol

Folks, there is a way to fight back! My Panasonic house phones have a call block feature, and it gives me great satisfaction to use it and block these nuisance calls. I imagine that phones from other manufacturers have this option.

10 years, same phone #, hardly a problem. Then I put my # on the do not call list. I now have criminals calling here at least weekly.

This number calls the house leaving no message.  If I answer they hang up.  Have no idea who they are, but if it is a charity group - not the best method to collect money.

Got 2 fundraising calls tonight. Told first guy we don't do donations over the phone. Got peaved at the 2nd caller and cut him off and asked where he got my unlisted number from as it has been unlisted for over ten years. He answered, " national lead broker " , thus I found this site.
I read many of the posts here and have come to the conclusion that these scammers somehow OBTAIN  our telephone numbers from the do not call list.
I signed up a month ago and now I am getting these calls. Before signing up with the do not call list, I only received annoying marketing  calls from companies that I have done business with in the past. The one that motivated me to sign up with the do not call list was time warner cable who I have not used since 1996 but the must be getting desperate to be calling me !
My advice is to think twice about signing up with the do not call list because someone figured out how to hack that list or a crooked government worker is selling the info for extra cash !

Reported this to the proper authorities. These types off calls are unlawful as they represent a nonexistent if existent at all groups. >.> I hate them calling my home and later wasting my time.

Also for anyone who is getting these calls and complains here go to https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and fill out the paper work. Takes ~5-10 minutes if your free and I can verify they sent me 3 letters last year stating that they would be taking legal action against some scammers I had reported.

green - my model is the Panasonic KX-TG4031 but Panasonic has other models that have call blocking too. Some models include voicemail, multiple handsets etc. so you can pretty much find one that suites your needs.

Do a search on Google for "Panasonic call block".

Amazon, Overstock.com, Office Max, TigerDirect.com, just mention a few.

My mother is 95 years old and gets calls everyday from organizations trying to trick the elderly. This phone has been a real godsend!!

I had one like yours and ruined the base (my fault). So I purchased what I thought the same Panasonic system at Walmart. This is the newer version with better battery life. Works just like yours and my older one, except that once the number is in the "block caller" list, the phone catches it before it rings - so you don't even know that they tried to call you.

On either system I assume the caller is getting a message that they are blocked, because they never try twice once they are on the list.
