This man poses as an attorney, a state processor, a federal mediator, and has now called me and said that he is an officer from my local district court. States that he has a bench warrant for me. Our local government doesnt have a district court and the docket number he gave me is fake. DO NOT PAY THIS SCAM ARTIST ANYTHING!!! After I told him that I wasn't buying his BS. He told me not to ever call his office again. Pretty much gave himself away with that comment. If he's trying to collect a debt he isnt going to tell you to not call back. CREEP!

Debt Collector
I received a message from someone named Dawn saying she was a State Processor. She did not mention which state she was a processor for. Plus I found it funny that this information would be left over the phone in a voice mail when written notice of intent is protocol for such matters. The attorney is the infamous Lance Davis ad I am suppose to call this number 877-220-7735 back. If there is a judgement against me then that will have to come to me via certified mail or via summons. Plus, if the person actually knew their stuff they'd know I am a freelancer and work for myself (have been since 2007). The woman said I would receive a summons at my place of employment. Good luck with that. Sound like grasping at straws to collect something. If I owe something then contact me via proper channels and I can make payment arrangements.Otherwise stop the scam.

i got a call from the girl first, saying she was a process server, here's a case # call this number 877-220-7735.
I called the number and was threatened by a lance davis attorney at law. He is NO attorney that's for sure.
he told me I needed to go to court the very next day, I said , you haven't even served me papers. it didn't take to long for me to figure out this guy is a scammer.
I immediately called my local police dept. and filed a report against that p.o.s.
I will be filing a report with the attorney general and the FBI in this matter. also will be filing a report with dept. of justice.

p.s. when I asked which court I needed to show up at, he could not answer me.

I receive a call as well from an unknown number and on the voicemail they had left, they were asking for an ex-boyfriend. They did leave a case number 105023 and a contact number 877-220-7735. The name Lance Davis was the person for my ex to contact about a complaint filed against him, and if he doesn't contact them soon they will issue a summons for court.

I received a call from an anonymous number stating that I was listed as a relative to someone in my family and I should pass this message on to him as he had been identified by name and SSN with some sort of complaint filed against him. I tried to call the number, 877.220.7735, back, but there was not even a voice mailbox or recording to take my call. It just rang and rang. I was also given a case number. This sounds very suspicious. Wouldn't a State Process Server have a published number when calling? Wouldn't a law office have a voicemail or something?

You may not be able to stop them from calling right off, but do record and keep any messages - record anything when talking with them. Tell them they are being recorded right off!  You can get a call blocking device or a phone. But be aware they change numbers like underwear.

This has all the earmarks of extortion scamming..  In some cases they call, and leave threats, others refer you over to the one who will once you call back..

And yes, I'd file reports, local pd should at least get a call about this. You can also see if your phone company will block also. It also pay's to know your states statue of limitations as well.

Section 809 of the FDCPA http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf requires 3rd-party debt collectors to give debtors written notice of debt (the key word is *shall*) :
"§ 809. Validation of debts
(a) Within five days after the initial communication with a consumer in connection with the collection of any debt, a debt collector shall, unless the following information is contained in the initial communication or the consumer has paid the debt, send the consumer a written notice containing?
(1) the amount of the debt;
(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
(3) a statement that unless the consumer, within thirty days after receipt of the notice, disputes the validity of the debt, or any portion thereof, the debt will be assumed to be valid by the debt collector;
(4) a statement that if the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, the debt collector will obtain verification of the debt or a copy of a judgment against the consumer and a copy of such verification or judgment will be mailed to the consumer by the debt collector; and
(5) a statement that, upon the consumer?s written request within the thirty-day period, the debt collector will provide the consumer with the name and address of the original creditor, if different from the current creditor."

A Collection Agent May Not?

Here are the top 11 actions prohibited by the The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act:

Misrepresent Him or Herself

  A debt collector may not misrepresent himself as an attorney or law enforcement officer.

Use the Telephone to Annoy or Harass

  A collection agent may not cause a telephone to ring or engage any person in telephone conversation repeatedly or continuously with an intent to annoy, abuse, or harass anyone at the called number.

Threaten Arrest or Lawsuit

  A collection agent may not threaten a consumer with arrest. It may not threaten legal action that is either not permitted or not actually contemplated. In other words, a the threat of a lawsuit may be an empty one.

Use Abusive or Threatening Language

  A debt collector may no use abusive or profane language in the course of communication related to the debt.

Publish a Bad Debt List

  Publishing the consumer?s name or address on a "bad debt" list is prohibited.

Contact By Embarrassing Media

  A debt collector may not communicate with a consumer by post card. It may not use any language or symbol, other than the debt collector?s address, on any envelope when communicating with a consumer by use of the mails or by telegram. A debt collector may use its business name if such name does not indicate it is in the debt collection business.

Contact a Consumer at Work

  A collection agent may not communicate with consumers at their place of employment after being told this is unacceptable or prohibited by the employer.

Seek Unjustifiable Amounts

  A debt collector may not reveal or discuss the nature of a consumer?s debts with third parties other than the consumer?s spouse or attorney. A collection agent may contact neighbors or co-workers only to obtain location information. It may contact a third party again if it has reason to believe the information the party provided previously is false.

Bills.com FDCPA FAQ

Below are questions Bills.com readers ask frequently:

Can a Collection Agent Call My Cell Phone?

  Yes. However, if you tell the debt collector it may not use that number because it is a cell phone, it may not contact you again at that number.

I Keep Receiving Dozens of Calls From Collection Agents. Is That Legal?

  No. Unscrupulous collection agents will use "block parties" or "office parties" where they contact a consumer, multiple neighbors, or co-workers telling them they need to reach the consumer on an urgent matter. This is not permitted under the FDCPA.

A Collector Says I Will Be Arrested if I Do Not Pay

  This was a true statement before the US Civil War, but has not been true since. People may be arrested if an aggressive judge files a bench warrant for a person who does not appear at a hearing relating to a lawsuit regarding a debt. However, in that case, the offense is the failure to respond to a court order, and not the existence of the debt. As stated above, it is illegal under the FDCPA to threaten a consumer with arrest if the consumer does not pay the debt.

Received a phone call on my cell phone!!!!!! Which under no circumstances I give out to just anybody so I sure was surprised to hear what the lady had to say. Vanessa was her name ( caller ID - unknown) She said there was a complaint filed against me. I asked where she got my cell # and about the nature of complaint ...?  Neither of my question were answered. She only offered me a case number. She said she has no details on the case but I have very very limited time to call and try to settle this out of court . Very strange. !
Obviously when you get a call of such nature ONE can worry and wonder. She just stated she is from Independent Processing and I must call 1-877-220-7735 and speak with Lance Davis and we could possibly make everything go away and that would be my only chance to clear this up ( clear whaf upMbSßotherwise I will be served with papers! Come to find out same lady called my mother in law where I resided temporarily and my mother in law gave her my cell. Needless to say My mother in law will never ever give my info away
Very strange, questionable and I am so glad I didn't give them any of my personal info.
How do I stop them from calling me? How do I find out what/exactly it is!! Above all how can I stop them calling my workplace and warn others.
Can I go to the police?
Thank you.

Got a call that showed up as unknown. They left a message for someone who obviously used to have my phone number so I called them back to try and have my number removed from their list. If you decide to return their call, please be prepared to talk with one of the rudest men on the planet. I thought I was doing them a favor by letting them know they were calling the wrong number, he apparently didn't think so.
