Received a voice message from id of 0000 stating it was "Kathy" from Michigan Works in payroll. "She sees that I am owed Back pay from them putting me in the wrong tax bracket and would I like that to be direct deposited? Then leaves an 866 446-4291 x70 number for me to call.
I call and the pick up recording is "Program Headquarters". I hung up, called my old place of employment and it was determined to be a scam..... Scumbag people!

Your registration may have just been a timing coincidence but it's possible CO's selling auto data to companies, the reasoning being these are public records anyway (they cannot sell personal ID data). If you bought your auto from dealer, it's more likely the dealer who's selling info.

No, the company does not have nor need any "technology to detect your number even if you use caller ID Blocking." Toll-free numbers collect and cannot be blocked from receiving incoming phone numbers.

I too received this letter at end of January 2011 in postal mail. There was NO return address on the envelope. The letter had my correct full name, address and year and model of my car. Since I have a Honda I wondered why there was no Honda name written in return address at top of letter. It is the same bogus message as all of yours. Program Headquarters (SPD), 300 North Tucker, St. Louise, MO 63101. Same phone number 1 877 6040. Seeing your messages saved me a phone call to my Honda dealer to bawl them out about giving my information to some company. I wonder if these folks are getting the information from the state motor vehicle department since by paying a fee this contact and vehicle information is sold.I think this is a practice that should cease.
The company DID NOT CALL ME-they sent a letter.

I got a letter like many of you have.  I called and talked to "Jessie" and he insisted that I take their coverage immediatly.  He might be abl;e to get me a further discount because of vehicle is low mileage and because I am a senior citizen.  A lady came on the phone and tried to offer me a different plan to what Jessie was trying to sell me.  This is a big scam.  I checked this company out on the BBB and it has a rating of F-.  Thanks but no thanks.  I will stay with my dealership's extended warranty.

I spoke with a very retail salesman-ish, condescending "Scott Gilmartin" who assured me he was the "highest ranking supervisor within the company" for which he refused to identify.  Morons, scam!!  He refused to identify the name of the organization and kept asking me for "your ID number on the letter".  I was gifted a car from my mother, titled it at the local DMV ad suddenly these idiots are privy to the make and model of my car as well as the address where it's parked?  Add a rare, desirable car to the equation and it gets more interesting and disturbing.  Is the DMV selling our personal information to fraudulent organizations?  Do not give them any information.  This looks to be country-wide as my state and the state the car is from are different than the others mentioned.

I was THIS CLOSE to falling for their scam! What made me realize that this was a scam is that she wouldnt tell me when my "coverage expired" all she would say is "soon, thats why you received the letter" she also offered me a "discount" saying that instead of my deposit being $350 she could lower it to $150. That sounded fishy to me how can someone just "give you" a discount.  When I told her that I would think about it she started getting an attitude and asked me if I cared at all about having coverage for my car. I once again told her I would think about it and she hung up on me! I googled the company and I found this site. I'm soo lucky I didnt fall for it! I can't believe there are people out there trying to stiff people!

They shouldn't be able to do anything with just the VIN nbr., I unfortunately responded to the letter, fell for the scam, and gave them my checking info. to start the plan B4 I saw this online. I did place a freeze on my account B4 they removed any money and called them to cancel this supposed policy, they however have not yet returned my call. But I ended up having to close my account and open a new one, what a big hassle...I should have followed my sense "If it's too good to be true"...will def. do that in the future...

I called them to removed from their list, and went one step further... I demanded to know WHERE they got my name from.  I delt with at least 4 or 5 rude people: none of who could give me any information or direct me to the person who could give me information.  They often refused to identify their supervisors.

Furthermore, I was put on hold for over 15 minutes while they were locating a supervisor.  I called back while on another line and was able to be transfered direct to a supervisor!

WARNING:  This company has the technology to detect your number even if you use caller ID Blocking!  I blocked my number using *67, and they were able to repeat my phone number back to me despite the fact that I gave them no identifying information!

Service Protection Direct has an "F" rating from the BBB. They've had 315 complaints filed against them (most were resolved) and had a suit filed against them by the state of Missouri. I'd stay away. They glean your auto purchase records from your state DMV and then send you "important" looking letters trying to get you to spend thousands of dollars selling you a "warranty". I've gotten two from them in the last couple of weeks. I've not received a phone call from them to date, but if they do call, I will happily refer to the "F" rating with the BBB.

I have reservations about releasing any information to any company with no real identifying information or means to contact them with questions or concerns.  My question is, if you are aware of the fact that my warranty has expired or will soon be expiring, how come you don't already have my VIN#, make and model of my car?  I purchased my vehicle through my credit union and they were gracious enough to handle all of my needs and warranty information for which I am very pleased!  Let the buyer beware!  Thanks for the heads up.

I would like to say that this company is definitely a SCAM!. I was receiving multiple calls from this agency about a year ago telling me my warranty was up...I researched this company and found out that they are obviously not legit. The next time they called me, I talked to an individual and told her that what they were doing was morally wrong and completely illegal..."You're scamming people!" I told her there was no way they were legit because how did they know my warranty was expired. She had no reply. Furthermore, I reported to her that I bought my car from a private owner so therefore, I had no factory warranty...proving even more how dumb these people were! Now they are sending me letters...it's sad to think this is continuing and people are actually falling for it. When I use to get the phone calls, they would always use different numbers, but it's the same company. If anybody calls or sends letters claiming your factory warranty is up or close to ending, do not provide any information! Shred the letter or request to be put on the do not call list. This company is fraudulent!

I got the same letter, instead of calling the company I called Toyota directly. The Toyota Representative said a letter was not mailed to my home and it is probably a scam. I also sent a complaint to BBB.

Beware of this company everyone, DO NOT GIVE THEM your information:

I called this company to have them remove me from their mailing list and he confirmed with me that I wanted to move and then he hung up.  You could literally hear the phone slamming down on the desk.  These people are rude and are not to be trusted.
