I just called the B of A number on the back of my card, and the fraud department confirmed that these numbers were legitimate. I am not a part of the fraud. Anyone can check for themselves, as I did.

The number could have been spoofed.  Just because it's a valid number does not mean that it has not been spoofed by some spammers.

You're all complete idiots who say it's a scam, it's not, I just called BOA to make sure... I got nervous reading here it was a scam, so I made sure, and low and behold it's BOA. Call it yourselves to find out, dumbasses.

Prank Call
I sheepishly called this number this morning after I woke up and had a text message saying my account was frozen for fraud and I needed to call this number.  Not using my better judgment I "verified" a few pieces of information not really thinking about it.  After hanging up, I was like, that was weird so I called the number on the back of my card like I should've in the first place.  Definitely fraud, they were literally fraudulently taking money from my account as I was on the phone with B of A.  BofA froze the account.  No damage except for humiliation and inconvenience.  Absolutely do not call this number.  It is a very sophisticated scam.

This is a scam. After contacting BoA they stated that this was not a BoA number and they told me the true number for their fraud line. Also, nothing was wrong with my account nor had a new card been issued to me. This is all after I made the mistake of going through the text message.

Obvious mistake on my part. Call the real BoA number or one from their website and ACTUALLY get your card renewed since the phishers are already on to you. Also change your BoA log in ID and pass code for extra protection.

The phishing agency already knew most of this which makes it nerve racking. Take the steps to re-secure your account and remain safe. Call the real BoA and take precautions.

The easy way to check it out is to just talk with your local banker if you have a BofA card of any kind.  Mine was able to provide all the data needed to prove there had been an attempted misuse of one of my cards.   I don't know how the bums got the number in the first place, but my banker canceled the problem card, got a new one sent to me in a few days, and things are working fine now.  The banker even fixed it so no charges over a set $$$ amount could even go through for anything without my approval first.  BofA handled my problem effectively, with the in person contact.

Not a scam. Got a text message from them thursday saying unusual activity on my card. I checked my online banking and sure enough, BoA had a hold on my card. Called the number, got the card cancelled, and they are sending me a new card. Also got another email, a customer survey, for the call I made.

All seems legit to me. If not, these are some pretty sophisticated scammers.

I called the number on the text and did everything they asked. They said they'd be sending a new card and all that jazz. I got skeptical but after following up with the number on the back of my card, it was legit. That's not to say that scammers won't use this route so calling the number on the card is the safest route.

I recently received the following text from 354-22 "FREE TEXT: Bank of America has temporarily restricted the use of debit card ending in ****. Call 1.877.248.6278 to verify. To opt out of text alerts reply STOP."

I was hesitant at first because this does appear to be a scam message. I did not call the number provided in the text. I called the number located on the back of the card which also matched the customer service number located on the Bank of America website. Upon calling I was redirected to the fraud department. Turns out the text was legitimate. A company I had done business with was hacked and had credit card numbers stolen. My card was cancelled and BofA mailed out a new one.

Additionally if you are unsure if the message is legitimate, you can log into your account online and check the alerts tab. There should be an alert there warning you of possible fraud activity.

I received the similar message and called BofA (right away) on the phone # listed on the back of the debt card. They checked the 877-248-6278 number in there system and were unable to verify that the number belongs to BofA.
Folks - So do your diligence - don't panic and always call the verified and the known source i.e. listed on your debt card.
However interestingly there has been some activity due to hacking reported by the Visa Card Franchise and my card # was listed in the stolen numbers that led to the suspension of the card.

Thanks and stay alert !!

This is why phishers are successful. Some of us got legitimate texts from our banks (and no, I would never call the number in or reply to the text. I called the number on my card and was immediately directed to the fraud prevention unit. Phishers obviously would not use the BoA number, but would copy the message exactly. I'm sure some if you got scam texts and others, like me, got valid notifications.

i got this and my card has been reissued due to the data stolen from target. the text was not fraudulent. i don't know why people seem so testy in claiming it is. just to be safe i did not call the number from the text but the customer service on the back of my card. my card activity HAD been stopped and i received an automated call confirming the text as soon as i got done with the customer service rep.if you're so concerned about whether or not it's a fraudulent text, just do that. it really isn't hard, and i don't know why you'd call someone an idiot - they're clearly smart enough to google the number in the text to get this page so they're trying to figure this out.

I got the text from 354-22:
"FREE TEXT MSG alert-Bank of America has temporarily limited the use of your Debit Card due to irregular activity.  Call 1-877-248-6278. To Opt Out reply STOP"

I checked my account and noticed a few fraudulent charges.

I called that number with no intention of giving out any of my information.  Only info I had to give was what number I received the text to.  From that, the person on the phone asked me yes or no questions to verify my identity, several of which would only be known by the bank, and were able to corroborate other charges that were in my account.

They said they canceled that card and will be mailing a replacement.  They also suggested that I stop by a local banking center to pick up cash to use in the mean time.  I will attempt to verify this later today, and will report back if something is amiss.

I would say that the text is legitimate, but that you can't go wrong with calling the main number printed on the card.

I received a text message from short code 35422 that said "FREE TEXT MSG-Bank of America has temporarily limited the use of your Debit Card due to irregular activity. Call 1-877-248-6278. To Opt Out reply STOP"

Your first clue this message is a fraud is "FREE TEXT MSG."  Banks do not provide your cellular service.  They cannot send you a "free text message."

It is true that BoA sends texts to warn you when there is possible fraud, but DO NOT call any number listed in a text message.  Call them directly, as I did.  I had them look over all of my accounts, personal and business, and none of them had been flagged.  This text message was NOT from BoA.

I received the same message and was skeptical also.  I contacted Bank of America in three methods: chatting from the secure website, calling the number on the back of my debit card and the number I received in the text message.  All three sessions revealed the same message: I had made a purchase from a company that was being investigated by the bank and law enforcement agencies for giving out account information resulting in fraudulent purchases.  They then verified all recent purchases with me, cancelled my card, ordered a new permanent card and advised me to go to a local office for a temporary card.  This was 100% legitimate and the representative from the number on my card confirmed that I will be receiving texts in similar situations in the future unless I choose to disable or "OPT out".

To all those who are saying this is a scam...that's fine if that's what you somehow discovered, but please stop insulting people for being "gullible".  I can promise you that due diligence is done and it serves no greater purpose to be insulting.  Simply state what you discovered and let people draw their own conclusions.  As for me, I'll choose to trust the verfiied Bank Of America representatives who tell me this is not a scam.

I hoep everyone has a wonderful, scamless day!

Also to correct a few posts above, B of A does indeed send SMS messages to it's customers if you've elected to have them alert you of account changes by text.  I receive texts from them when there's a low balance situation or fraudulent activity.

I suspected this was a scam as well, but I called the main number for B of A from their website and they confirmed that my account had been flagged by the fraud dept. I verified a couple of charges but not fraudulent charges had been made thankfully. The woman on the phone told me they have been notified by law enforcement that a vendor's credit card database had been compromised and my card was one of the numbers. They cancelled my card and are mailing a new one.

This was a legitimate text but I would never respond to it b/c it was so generic.  I ended up also getting an automated voice mail from BoA a short while later.  That led me to believe that it may be a legitimate contact attempt from BoA.

It ended up that there was in fact fraudulent activity that had taken place on a BoA card of mine and it was the BoA Fraud department texting/calling to check with me regarding these fraudulent purchases.

So you should not always totally disregard these kinds of generic contacts and if not sure, and as mentioned by others, if you are not sure, it's always best to call the # on your card and check with BOA directly, just to be safe.

I got a text from 35422 claiming that my debit card has been limited due to irregular activity so I called the number 1 800 432 1000 and talked to a representative and he claimed that the number 35422 is theirs and they send out text messages. But at the same time, i never opt in to receive text messages. I feel if you can access your account online and you see nothing wrong with your account, you can leave it or just go in to a local Bank of America rather than call to be safe.

You can sign up for text alerts from your bank. If you have a question on whether or not it was from the bank, you can call the regular customer service number and verify that they did call you. Obviously you're not a bank of america customer.

Bank of America does not send SMS text messages to their customers.

If you responded to such an SMS you are now a victim of fraud.

People on this site claiming otherwise are criminals participating in the fraud.

I got the text message, also. I called the number I know for BoA and they did send the alert, also an email I got right after the text. BoA said they couldn't identify the source of the irregular activity and my card was being replaced as a safety precaution. This is barely 10 months after my card number was stolen and used at Target. Getting really tired of how scumbags feel entitled to someone else's hard earned money.
