I received a call from an unknown number on yesterday. The guys name was James claiming to be an agent with Legal Courier Services. The same people called last week with a case number and told me to call another 1-800 number. I called the number and it was to a collection agency. The ladies name was Kimberly. She informed me that unless I submitted a payment or post dated one on a prepaid card I would be served with papers. After talking with this James today I called some of my friends within the courts. Why because this man left a voicemail stating if I didnt respond he was going to the D.A. Well I thank God for friends in the ranks of law enforcement. There were no record of any judgement against me on the court docket. I called the sheriff department also because he stated they would be escorting him to either my hone or my job. The sheriff office said it was a scam. So now I'm lying in wait for them to call me again.

The person never gave his name.  Siad he was from Legal Courier Services.  He spoke to my supervisor and told her he wanted to serve me papers from from the L.A. District Court to appear in court. He gave a number to call 888-208-1443 to call back.  He said they tried to deliver the papers to the residence on Friday and Saturday, but was unable to deliver them. He told my supervisor he would try again today to deliver the papaers at work and if not successful would send them back to the court.  I have no information on who the company is or what loan they are talking about.  If a loan is truly owed, the company would have sent out notices to my residence.

Today I received a telephone call from a "Blocked" number, which, of course, I did not answer.  A "Chris Reynolds" left a voice mail message stating he was with a "legal courier services" and he had a "certified notice of intent to appear" in my name which was to be executed by them on April x, 2014.  However, he was "giving me the opportunity to discuss the matter before it was executed" (whatever that meant).  He gave me a "claim number", CXX6xxxx". He said I was to call 855-510-9959 if I wished to contact the other party before I was "served".  He said he was contacting me as a "courtesy" in order that I could avoid any "embarrassment" over the holiday weekend. Based upon the vast amount of information on the internet warning of such scams, including states' attorney generals and the Federal Trade Commission, I have no intention of calling this number and wanted to post this information for the benefit of 800notes readers. Several months ago I received a similar telephone (different number of course).  "Mr. Reynolds'" voice did sound vaguely familiar (different name of course) :)

I got two calls from a blocked number similar to the others here. The man calling claimed that he was a legal courier, but stuttered when doing it, like he was trying to remember what lie to tell. He made a point to emphasize that he would be "coming out to see me" to serve me with legal papers at me home, and that I should had better have two forms of idea ready. So here's what makes these things sound bogus.

1. If anyone has intent to serve you with court documents or a summons, that means that they have already filed papers with the court. If so, what is the point of calling them? Once papers are filed, they have to pass through the court. So when they ask you to call them to prevent them from serving you, that's just completely bogus. You may not be a lawyer, but you don't need to be. There are plenty of legal resources available on the internet. USE THEM! Never underestimate the power of Google.

2. The whole thing about them demanding two forms of personal idea is equally bogus. Pay very close attention to what I'm about to say. THE ONLY PERSONS WHO HAVE A RIGHT TO COME TO YOU AND DEMAND ANY FORM OF IDENTIFICATION ARE MEMBERS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT. This would include judges, or any other entity entrusted with the task of enforcing or upholding the law. A legal courier could be any poor schmuck who can't get a real job and likes to harass people. The ONLY legal stipulation for legal couriers is that they cannot in any way be associated with the case. But, you do not have to show them ID. In fact, you don't have to say or do anything because as I stated before, it wouldn't make a bit of difference if they have already filed papers with the court. By acknowledging or cummunicating with them in any way, you just make their job easier. And the "courier" probably gets a bonus if he can get you to verify information he doesn't yet have.

3. Legal couriers, or anyone serving you with papers don't even need ID to serve you. All they need to do is verify that you are the person they are seeking, and then they can just drop the papers at your feet, or your doorstep. They have to seve you directly, or leave the papers at your "last reasonable residence", which is tricky. If they can confirm where you work or live, they can just leave the papers at your job or home.

But be sure about one thing. If they are trying to set you up on a plan to pay them, then the likelihood that you would be served is slim to none. Serving papers is about intent to sue. And you only go to court once all attempts to collect have been exhausted.

LOL I just got one of these calls. It was a lady. She didn't say who the message was for or who the legal documents would be from. She can come to my home all she likes. I'm not home during the week day. I have a job and I don't owe anyone any money on any unpaid pay-day loans. Have fun trying to serve me anything. I work for the state and if they try this scam at my office they won't get past the security guard and he'll be happy to call the cops for them trying to harass me at my place of business. The most amusing thing about the message was not only could I not understand the "case number" but the phone number she left to have me contact had too many digits in it. She left 11 digits for the phone number and not just 10. I saved the message just in case I need it if I have to take them to court. LOL

Keep getting calls that Legal Courier Service LLC, is coming to my home. They don't mention who they want to serve and they say not to call them back, it won't do any good. They say they can only deliver to the named party, or defendant, but never say who that is supposed to be, The number they call from shows as a "blocked call". The number they say to call, when researched, comes back to a cell phone in Niagra Falls.

This guy Charles Corley, sent me 6 voicemails indicating he was going to deliver documents. Please do so I can go to court over a fraud collection. Anyway said he would be at my home between 2-4 and if I wasn't there then be at my work.. Its funny because I actually had today off  and my commute to work is 55 min. So 2-4pm rolls around and no one shows at my home. Even if he wanted to serve me at work 5 pm is closing time... Smh I called the company he left a number for. No one answered I got their information of their website and mailed a cease and desist along with filing 2 complaints for FTC and Texas attorney general. If you're going to serve me, serve me. I will show up! I've cleaned up my credit so I know who I owe. Trying to scam me with some junk debt isn't going to work especially since I have never done a payday loan or received notification of default. I dare them to make threats again in a few days, then I will be serving them for harassment.

I just got a similar call today - a supposed courier threatening to come to my job or home with legal authorities. I just had a very poor customer experience with one of the credit bureaus a couple of days ago. The "supervisor" was very rude. It was very strange, but now, I'm suddenly getting this type of harrassing phone call for a case I've never heard about before. Could there be a link?

I have been receiving these same calls but my courier's name is Timothy Newman.  Same story as everyone elses.  My loan was supposedly not paid back in 2008, however I have never applied for  or received any payday loans.  I have had a few times where some of these scam companies can get access to your personal information and they know enough to make you think they know alot more.  My bank account has been fraudulantly accessed at two different times and my bank had to press charges.  I was not found guilty of defaulting on anything and would have no reason to take out a payday loan.  High interest with short pay back time....no thank you.  I already reported these calls to the better business bureau, but I guess I need to report it to a higher agency within my state.

Thomas Kane(King) left a rude message on my mother phone advising this is notice of being served and he will be at my home on Thursday to bring the papers. I need to contact 8773132791 and refer to CV142972. I called the number and it was for Cross Point Associates. As previous comments I have not received any collection letters and have actually paid off my old debtors just last month so at a lost to whom could be running a scam and why.

I am tired of being threatened and harrassed by this company. They have left mesages with family members, my ex-huband and I am not sure who else. They are going to serve me with court papers either at my home or place of employment.  I have never received anything in the mail regarding me being sent to a collection agency. I have not done a payday loan in 2 years, in which I paid and also my information was given out and my bank account was having withdrawals form 4 different company names, it took months to get this taken care of and cost me thousands of dollars, this had to be done by the advance company that I used.  This is ridiculous and I will never do this type of loand again. They are SCAM ARTIST.

I have not done a loan in 2 years and they were paid. This is blantly harassment. I have never received anything in the mail regarding a collection, which is protocol, so bring it on. They need to show that they have sent some sort of collecton notice.

I've received eight messages THIS week alone - from a variation of this number and a different name, but same threat of "independent courier".  Two this morning warning me that he's on his way.  He can kiss my butt.  Can't pronounce my very common last name...today, even went down the list of last names I've had over the past 30 years.  What a di**.   Every message through today was recorded by my attorney who recently and successfully obtained a judgement for me from a dumbass collector who wasn't near this bad.  My attorney is very excited about this one.  Sadly for these pricks, the last time I even entertained a payday loan was five years ago.  The statute of limitations in my state have long passed so even if they attempted to take me to court - one of two things will happen.  1)  The judge will throw it out or 2) it will be a blatent admission that they are the one's harassing me and let the games begin.  They're screwed either way.   They can come to my "place of employment", (which I doubt they will), but good luck getting past security.

A**holes.

Same thing happened to me. A James Cutter called about court papers. I told him to meet me at my place of employment and the cops will be there to escort his self from the premises. It's a scam to get money from a defaulted pay day loan.

This "James Cutter" punk is all across the web. Dude, get a life.

On November 9, 2011, I received a call from a "James Cutter" a indepedent legal courier service that left two (2) voicemails on both my cell and work, indicating that he was scheduled to "serve" me legal papers for a "court" date at either my residence and/or place of employment. He also states that I need my "make myself available" on the scheduled date with an "office manager" so that they can be a witness?!?!?! I mean, really?!?!?1 I contacted the return number 877-313-2791 which happens to be a COLLECTION AGENCY who wanted to make a detail and set me up on a payment arrangement for a pay day loan.....GTFOH! I contacted our CEO, who laughed off this meager attempt for "legal courier" service who requires a witness for obviously a personal matter. For starters, a legal courier or process service MUST be credentialed and/or licensed and the state that they wish to serve documents in. From my stance, the only individuals that I've ever seen serve legal papers are reputable courier companies that provide their names and/or contact information and the deputy's office. Not some lame a** James Cutter who's apparently sitting in a dark, basement office, whacking off while calling every muthaf*cka that owes a payday loan. Sorry Cutter, but you've been exposed. This bogus legal courier is a total scam. I've spoken with a two attorney (one being my father) who states that under the collection laws they cannot threaten debtors with serving them legal papers unless they intend to sue. About half of America has defaulted on Pay Day loans......It's not new. Hell, people default on student loans, but I don't see legal threats. They garnish your wages, refund, etc....which they can because they're federal. These lame a** pay day sharks can pound sand or kick rocks. You know the person doesn't have money and is providing a "hot check"....That's why they're called cash advances.....When you stop approving them, then you'll stop getting the shaft....I don't feel sorry for them. The is the first and LAST loan that I get. James Cutter, kiss my a** or kiss the tip of my 9mm. I wish I would see you're jolly a** at my place of employment. I promise I'll be the last that you harrass.
